leftfooter Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I'd agree Nicko if he were the same player who was Man City's best and edging into the England side but he isn't. Surely he will never be given a chance for England (that would be some Lazerath act); he hasn't played well for the Magpies on the odd ocassion he's been on the pitch so the question would be "what is the motivation for him?". Even if he had a couple of brilliant seasons he's blown his England chance and he won't get a "big" club coming in for him. He'd become just another football mecerenary which isn't what Rovers need. Hope he takes him turmoil to Spurs - can't see him lasting long with 'arrys no nightclub rules. I think you might mean Lazarus.

roverseas Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I'd rather go abroad and find some unknown talent than sign Barton, but if we do get him I will support him like anyone else. He would be a step up from what we've got anyway.
bringdunnback Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I completely agree with nicko on Barton, the guy is a complete p***k but he has bags of talent, he's like a Premier League version of Grella.
jny Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Apart from Grella isn't likely to knife you if you go in for a soft challenge
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Nicko, is their any news update on the talks with the Marseille trio?
Wild Irish Rover Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Apart from Grella isn't likely to knife you if you go in for a soft challenge Scandalous slander of a perfectly upstanding citizen who deserves our support for his attempts to rehabilitate himself and become a valuable member of society. His great charity work, selfless flagellation and wearing of hair shirts and razorblade insoles clearly distinguish Joey 'the kid' Barton as a truly worthwhile addition to our squad of journeymen do-gooders. And anyone who knifes our midfield maestros is clearly just trying to provoke a reaction to prove they aren't all (footballing) brain dead. *I may or may not necessarily subscribe to these or any other views expressed in part or in full during bored Saturday morning visitations of the interweb. Chin up Jonny You know who
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I agree with Nicko about Barton but too many people prefer to maintain their pre- conceived ideas. Therefore it won't happen. Would your pal be interested Nicko ?
Blue n White Rover Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I agree with Nicko about Barton but too many people prefer to maintain their pre- conceived ideas. Therefore it won't happen. Would your pal be interested Nicko ? They don't need him. They of course have G.Alexander Joey who...?
Paul Mellelieu Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Got to say...Joey Barton on loan at half-wages [£30,000-a-week] for a season is not a bad idea. In terms of ability he is miles better than anyone you have. And taking him on loan would cover you against any of his nonsense inside or outside the club. There's a very good player there if someone could keep him right. He was Man City's best man before he left and an England international. Where else do you get one of them for £1.6 million-a-season? A rare moment of good sense on Mr Barton.
greggyk Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 However Is Barton the same player he was at City, after all his injuries? Let alone his mental state ?
nicko Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Nicko, is their any news update on the talks with the Marseille trio? Givet is done. Civelli is being a bit silly. M'Bami still to be watched in real action...could see him being a pre-season trialist at best. I agree with Nicko about Barton but too many people prefer to maintain their pre- conceived ideas. Therefore it won't happen. Would your pal be interested Nicko ? Even at £30,000-a-week it would be FOUR times above their top earner... Mind you, he would have to play WITH Alexander.
Guest benmaxwell Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Oh... and any progress on the mystery striker? Why are the club waiting to announce the Givet deal, are they waiting to announce it with another signing. One thing i have never understood about Rovers is why they don't do group shots with all their signings like other clubs. Would love to see Rovers do that...

Would your pal be interested Nicko ? I'd like to think Sam wouldn't factor in the impulsive opinions of a bunch of internet posters (both for and against) on a comparatively obscure football website when making his calculations on such matters!
Billy Castell Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I honestly don't understand those who support Barton. He's an over rated, injury prone midfielder who keeps doing violent and crazy things. He may, on a good day, be a very good player, but there are too many potential pitfalls to make him worth the effort. Put it this way, if you wanted a cleaner for your house, would you want someone who can sometimes leave it spotless and smelling great, but usually 'borrows' jewellery and doesn't flush the toilet after having a poo?

Signing players in the summer lacks a bit of focus...players are on holiday, terms are agreed by agent when they are not around. Givet doesn't need a medical, just a signature. He is officialy your player on loan until the end of June, the price is agreed and the terms sorted out from what I hear. No worries.
Iceman Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Nicko any truth in the Seiterides rumour, that he might yet land up at Rovers. This has come from a mate of mine in Greece.

Guest benmaxwell Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Will we have a Blackburn Rovers style update in the Sunday People... Can you give us a clue what you will be talking about in it...
nicko Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Will we have a Blackburn Rovers style update in the Sunday People... Can you give us a clue what you will be talking about in it... Bit of news about the manager...a line about his budget and a potential swap...plus a potential trialist. Hope it all gets in. If not...check in tomorrow.
leftfooter Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 The only thing with Martins is the doubt about his age. Good player though and would be a source of pace. I like Martins, although he's knackered for the next couple of months. There must be some reliable test a potential buying club can conduct regarding his age? After all, carbon-dating tests can give an accurate result of bodies dug up in marshes after thousands of years!
Iceman Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 This age thing about Martins, came up when one of the Nigerian players were found to be over age at the olympics i think. Thus there has been alot of question marks over their correct age. Makes me think, perhaps Kanu is really 22 years old. Snap him up Sam! Hahaha
BiggusLaddus Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 I agree with Nicko about Barton but too many people prefer to maintain their pre- conceived ideas. Therefore it won't happen. Would your pal be interested Nicko ? Nothing to do with preconceptions, he has had numerous chances and blown them all. He wasn't prejudged, it isn't because members of his family are racist axe murderers, it is because of his own actions, again and again and again. How could any of our squad have any respect for him when he has previously assaulted his own teamate and stubbed a cigar into the eye of a youth player?
