There's a huge gap between Leeds and where we are now. Don't use extremes to support the argument. Fact is that the reality of running a sports team is that at times you have to invest and this moment is the time (really it has been the time for the past few years). We've passed up several opportunities where signing one or two players (and not for obscene sums) could have really taken the club forward, now we are looking at having to do the same in order to get the club back to where it was.

I was under the impression that the airline was actually doing well, if there's been a change it's been a fairly recent one.

If you look back to a couple of seasons back under MH stewardship, Rovers did invest over budget and we are now paying the price as we are having to pay off the overdraft which we extended then. The forecast financially was that Rovers could carry that without overstretching. When that is paid off and the banking situation has eased then it maybe that Rovers can afford to stretch themselves. In today's climate it is better to be prudent.

If Rovers had in janauary gone and broke the bank to avoid relegation and failed, then it is possible that and Elland Road scenario was possible. Check examples such as Southampton as well as Leeds.

This club has survived in the late seventies and early eighties by being prudent. Howard Kendall tells tales about milk purchasing at the club and I remember being banned from the transfer market as a result of not paying the fee for Colin Randall.

So to bring it back to your original statement Eddie why does being prudent make the board look like morons?

Only their mums would say they'd been successful when they were played out of position. Warnock was barely o.k. in midfield. Samba tried really hard but he's a centre half. Mike England was the best centre half I've ever seen, anytime, any team. He was that good, he had it all. When he did a Samba and got shoved in at centre forward he didn't set the world on fire either. The skill set is totally different. The John Charle's of this world are unique, they come along once a lifetime.

sutty started life as a defender he didnt do to bad and didnt warhurst start as a defender he scored a lot also?.....

The Egyptian lad is an interesting chap...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shikabala

Military service

Banned from playing for egypt for 12 months

Banned from playing & fined almost 1m euros.

However only 23 year old and bags of pace - could be worth a shot.

As for the budget arguement over the board etc.

We pay £46m in wages, Burnley pay £9m in wages. Now seriously there is no way the current set of players we have deserve £46m. We pay Gallagher twice over what anyone in the burnley team receives - why? What has he done for us?

The board is right by telling Sam to cut the bill. We need to get our wages much more lower as some players on the books, just dont deserve what they are paid.

Chimbonda would be a good signing. If we could take Chimbonda, Bent + some cash then we should do the deal straight away.

Nicko - any ideas who we were watching last night? Did we have a scout at the Marseille game?

Still working on that...

I think Darren Bent to Sunderland looks very likely - huge wages. Bruce wants Crouch and Bent as a pairing. Not a bad plan.

so this mystery striker nicko any idea when we will get more info on him ie. his name?

does it look like we will get the OM boys?

I'm overjoyed that the name has stayed quiet so far...helps the deal and the eventual story.

Marseille is a 'wait and see' job with Civelli and M'Bami. Givet is going to be done.

Couldn't agree more.

So Nicko? with your "I'm overjoyed that the name has stayed quiet so far...helps the deal and the eventual story." statement does that mean no one on here has even guessed who it is????

Although someone did get it in a day - sent it to me by PM.

And kept it quiet too.

When will all be revealed with regards to this mystery striker? In your opinion will we find the waiting worthwhile? Do you expect us to be stunned or amazed and excited about this striker etc?

nicko.

scott brown from celtic is he any good? seems to score a few and has a few assists only young....

Brown could probably handle it down here, but he is over-priced and you never know if SPL players can handle the physical side of it.

Billy McKinlay...Barry Ferguson...probably the best of their type up in Scotland but blown away in England.

I'd love one of those PM's, joke.

Its better the name doesn't make it on here, I just hope he's as good as you believe he is.

Come on Nicko we have players who could cut it in the prem.

Fletcher

Boyd

McCarthy

Fleck (eventually)

Brown (would be good in a 3)

Alexander

Hutton

I thought Boyd had a reputation for being like Bennie macarthy - fat and lazy who scores goals for his team.

Come on Nicko we have players who could cut it in the prem.

Fletcher...MAYBE, BUT COULD BE BIT SOFT.

Boyd...NOT MOBILE ENOUGH.

McCarthy...COULD BE A PLAYER...CHAMPIONSHIP LEVEL JUST NOW.

Fleck (eventually)...HOPEFULLY....EVENTUALLY.

Brown (would be good in a 3)...MAYBE...BUT COSTLY.

Alexander...HOPE HE EXCELS IN THE ROLE NEXT SEASON...GOT THE BRAINS FOR IT.

Hutton...FUNNY FEELING HE WILL GET SHUNTED AT SPURS...OK GOING FORWARD...COULDN'T TACKLE A FISH SUPPER.

ADD ARFIELD AT FALKIRK TO THAT LIST...GOOD SIGNING FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE NEXT SEASON.

That's a real shame. I would have thought he would be ideal for us especially if their is any chance of Cruz going to Spurs...

With regards to the exchange Nicko... Any chance we could see a return of Bentley... Any chance more then one player from Spurs could be involved? If so who would you guess other then Pascal Chimbonda..?

SkySports Understands that Olympiakos HAVE now tabled a bid for Derbs: http://msnsport.skysports.com/story/0,1952...5356969,00.html

Surely there is a middle ground? When clubs like Derby have had more funds than us it highlights our issue. Spending stupidly like Pompey or NUFC is not the way to go but we are prime candidates for relegation again next year if this is not sorted.

Derby are a bigger club with better support and new owners. Can we have your suggestions instead of your criticisms imy?

Watching what has happened at our club makes the board look like morons.

And your solution is eddie .....

Careful what you wish for roverseas....... Rem Grabbi? Baggio? Marcolin? and some fat spanish waiter masquerading as a left winger?

I'd like to think our scouting under Hughes and Sam was/is much better than back then. I mean, who the heck would spend so much on a journeyman from Serie B like Souey did? De Pedro... meh. The exception that confirms the rule!

I'll use Samba, Nelsen, Tugay, Roque and Benni as my counter examples! ;) If the scouting/trialling is done properly then there are way more talent to be found on the cheap abroad than looking at cheap british players.
