RibbleValleyRover Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I think Chimbonda would be an excellent signing for us. Just the sort of person Sam can get into shape and get focussed. Great at centreback as well as fullback. Can play in midfield if he has to. Bags of prem experience. If we can get him for 2m and to take less wages (is this likely? Hmm...) then a steal. I'd rather have Civelli, free transfer and likely to be on smaller wages.

LeChuck Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Seitaridis would be a better option, but I'd take most people over Chimbonda. I have to say I'm very sceptical about this story, Sam himself said he wants to make the team more youthful, I don't see how signing Chimbonda does that.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I'd rather have Civelli, free transfer and likely to be on smaller wages. You would think... That's what i have heard has been the sticking point with him coming to Rovers. His wage demands are to high. Where as offering Chimbonda proper first team football staying in the Premier League would give us room to haggle over his wages...
ScottishRover Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Buying Chimbonda could allow Emerton to play in the midfield. Got to be a good thing dont you think
Nate Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Yep - another Bentley. Needs to knuckle down and make the place in a team his own again - stop believing all the hype and stick with the club in which he is improving in. Imagine if we got them both and they both knuckled down. *sigh* what a dream world I live in.
Fife Rover Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Buying Chimbonda could allow Emerton to play in the midfield. Got to be a good thing dont you think Buying any decent RB will achieve same result....doesn't need to be Chimbonda
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Where as offering Chimbonda proper first team football staying in the Premier League would give us room to haggle over his wages... I've seen Chimbonda numerous times and i've never rated him, plus he comes with a lot of baggage in terms of ego and off the field antics. Spending £2-3 million of our already small budget would be a complete waste.
roversmad95 Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 nicko has confirmed that we are interested in Chimbonda I think. Could happen. In terms of talent easily the best right back who is available. Shame he is an idiot. lucash is on a free... didnt sign his contract worth 3 mil a year...
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 lucash is on a free... didnt sign his contract worth 3 mil a year... Why he hasn't signed his new contract, is exactly why we should steer well clear...
herbergeehh Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Shikabala the crowd pleaser Disneyland defending, but still..
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Shikabala the crowd pleaser Disneyland defending, but still.. Could you imagine him doing that against Burnley/Chelsea/United? He'd be a legend forever.
unleaded Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 That Goal is AMAZING!..................WHOW!............Bring Him Quick............
Mc Love Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 People were saying the same about King Carlos...but that was a huuuge disappointment
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Am i the only person who doesn't think that goal is all that special. It was made to look alright by some pretty awful defending. If i was the Gaffer and i had a player showboating like that, and going for glory, i would drop a bombshell on his head post match...
Amo Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I tend to agree with Chuck - At 30 years old, and question marks over his attitude, Chimbonda is overpriced at £3m. I'd settle for Seitaridis on a free, instead.
OhmiBRFC Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Buying any decent RB will achieve same result....doesn't need to be Chimbonda Emerton's best postion is clearly RB though!
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Anybody think Emerton and Diouf could actually work? Diouf holds up it, Emerton overlaps and we can have a field day.
Majiball Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Anybody think Emerton and Diouf could actually work? Diouf holds up it, Emerton overlaps and we can have a field day. Not strong enough defensively, we'd need a world class holder to cover them, or maybe just two holders.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Diouf tackles and defends more than Bentley did, from what I can remember.
modes98 Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Emerton's best postion is clearly RB though! I disagree big time. For me he played his best in the central midfield role. He was however a better right back than right winger, he just doesn't have the confidence in his own ability to cross the ball. Sam wants to lower the squad age. So bringing in Chimbonda may not be the best move, getting in someone younger who has the ability may be a better option.
tcj_jones Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Buying Chimbonda could allow Emerton to play in the midfield. Got to be a good thing dont you think Personally, I feel that would be a bad thing. Emerton is far better at right back than at right mid, where we have Diouf now in any case. We should definitely bring in a versatile defender who can play at RB, but Sam should focus his spending power on a CM and a CF. £3m for a 30 year old mercenary on big wages would be awful business, especially when possibly the best player at the club currently plays in that position.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I disagree big time. For me he played his best in the central midfield role. Agreed. His best position is RCM...
dave birch Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Emerton moving out? big injury, age, might happen.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Emerton moving out? big injury, age, might happen. One word. No...
Hughesy Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Emerton has bundles of energy so would work well in midfield - HOWEVER id prefer a better centre midfielder to be signed. Emerton, with Diouf infront of him on the right, could be a very good partnership.
