BiggusLaddus Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 All hinges on how well he comes back from injury though. If he has kept his pace then him and Diouf could work well together.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Emerton moving out? big injury, age, might happen. So you'd put Emerton's name forward and keep Dunn, Grella and Reid... Barmy!
RevidgeBlue Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I'd be absolutely gutted if we signed Chimbonda. Terrible attitude, comes into the "don't touch with a s****y stick" category for me.
joey_big_nose Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 We actually have quite a reasonable squad of eighteen imo at the moment if everyone is fit. Obviously we want to improve it, but the signing of Diouf and Givet in Jan improved things immensely: ---------------Cruz --Pedersen------------Diouf --------Warnock---Dunn ---------------Grella Givet---Nelsen---Samba--Emerton -------------Robinson Subs: Bunn, Zurab, Reid (if he is ever fit....), Andrews, Roberts, McCarthy That is not a bad team. Its not a great team either of course. But it would survive in the premiership if managed competantly, and potentially if things went well get top half. The main vulnerability is a propensity for key players to suffer injuries (Grella, Cruz, Dunn) and a lack of creativity. Re: Emerton and Diouf playing together - If we played 451 with three in the middle that would allow Emerton to get forward more without us being too exposed, especially considering Givet is so defensive. That would be a powerful attacking weapon.
Eddie Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Emerton can happily play 3 positions, even 4 or 5 at a push, why on earth would we get rid of a player that useful given some of the dross in our squad?
begresko Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Chimbonda is a real character. But to say he isn't a good footballer seems a bit strange to me. Absolutly brilliant at wigan. Resigned by spurs, showing a very promising start when he first joined. Yes he is greedy but the lad is from a very very poor background and he is just trying to sort his family out. Mercenary yes. Bit old, yes. Would he go straight into our starting 11, yes
Hughesy Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 If we do sign Chimbonda, then surely he will be the final piece of our defensive jigsaw? Unless of course City offer £15m for Samba!! Options with Chimbonda - Right Back: Chimbonda Emerton Andrews Left Back: Warnock Givet Ollson Centre Back: Samba Nelsen Givet Zurab

RevidgeBlue Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 i bet you said that about diouf...lol Not at all, I like Diouf, they're completely different types of player. Diouf can be a bit hot headed but obviously cares. Chimbonda is the exact opposite, the last player you'd want alongside you in the trenches when the going got a bit tough.

Bit old, yes. Would he go straight into our starting 11, yes I can't see how he would, Samba, Nelsen, Givet are all better central defenders and Emerton is a better right back. I could understand the deal if we had a huge budget in the summer and Sam wanted to bring in someone as backup, but be realistic here we are looking at a small budget. £2-3 million plus wages or try and sign a freebie from a foreign league like Seitaridis or Civelli who are probably on smallish wages in comparison to current players in our league. Personally i think Chimbonda is complete rubbish, though there are some here who rate Lucas ‘I like to concede penalties’ Neill so the backing of Chimbonda doesn't surprise me.

Absolutely spot on imo.

Um, Chimbonda was superb for Wigan. Decent enough for Spurs when he went there. He is substantially better than Emerton at right back! The Aussie (much as I love him) can't even head a ball for God's sake! He has a lot of talent, but has been unstable for a while. Sam's bread and butter is getting players like Chimbonda to refind his feet.
Dunnfc Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 If Chimbonda was on a free, i'd say bring him in, if Chimmy was younger i'd say bring him in. but the fact that he goes through more clubs than tiger woods, is 30 makes me think next please...
broadsword Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Wigan, schmigan. That was 3 clubs ago. He's lost his way big time. We need someone who can gets tuck in, not a money-grubbing tights-wearing fairy.

Chimbonda is the exact opposite, the last player you'd want alongside you in the trenches when the going got a bit tough. i wasnt having a go just a joke but i agree diouf will try and work hard and anyone who can hand a transfer request right after the final whistle isnt worth having even if he had a good season with wigan.... as other people said for the fee and the salary he will get there must be better ones out there even stay with emerton but he is better in the middle... what do people think about luke young at villa he wouldnt cost to much...

b12_simon Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Agreed. With any other manager at the helm I'd say steer clear but as it's Sam I reckon Chim-chimeny could be a great buy.
ni_rover Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 What would yous think of a Lucas Neill return? or Kevin Nolan?
sambo Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 ^ No and no, Lucash for wages, and not a fan of Nolan, and apprently he isn't a fan of us either!
ni_rover Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I didnt think Diouf was a fan of us either but his passion for the club cant be faulted so far. I think Nolan would be a terrific player for us. And with Big Sam here, its very likely!
sambo Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Maybe, but Nolan has expressed dislike for Rovers apparently in the past, Diouf hasn't. And in my opinion, he's not that good anyway, Bolton fans were happy to see the back of him. Much would depend on the price
chocky Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 ^ No and no, Lucash for wages, and not a fan of Nolan, and apprently he isn't a fan of us either! Nolan slagged us off in the press...He won't come to us...
ni_rover Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 What did Nolan say to the press? I honestly never heard about it. If thats the case he can ###### off and play in the championship with crappy Newcastle. I do reckon he is a great player though and doubt Bolton were happy to see the back of him!
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 As far as I can remember the only thing he said to rile us was when he was asked about which kit he liked the least in the Premier League, he said ours. Now, there's absolutely no way he could have been playing up to the Bolton fans there, is there?
