What did Nolan say to the press? I honestly never heard about it. If thats the case he can ###### off and play in the championship with crappy Newcastle. I do reckon he is a great player though and doubt Bolton were happy to see the back of him!

I remember the column he used to do on the BBC and they asked him who had the worst shirt in the league and he said Rovers. I also remember vaguely him coming out with some comments when Sam signed, something like "I can't believe he went to them!"

That's the one...He also said the team he disliked the most was Rovers...

His comments don't bother me that much, i just think perhaps he peaked a few years ago and isn't good enough for the sort of money we are talking. It wasn't just at Newcastle he was poor, he was poor for the last couple of years at Bolton.

I also assume he is on some big wages at Newcastle? Also they iirc didn't have a relegation clause set in place for player's wages, so he could just stay there for another season on a decent wage to see if he can get them back up.

Kevin Nolan is twice as fat as Dunny and only half the player.

Not for me thanks, look on a Bolton forum and read their views on Nolan, and that would be while he was still there not just sour grapes after he left.

Personally, I feel that would be a bad thing. Emerton is far better at right back than at right mid, where we have Diouf now in any case.

We should definitely bring in a versatile defender who can play at RB, but Sam should focus his spending power on a CM and a CF. £3m for a 30 year old mercenary on big wages would be awful business, especially when possibly the best player at the club currently plays in that position.

Where will todays signing play then - is he not a midfileder, if Emerton plays right midfield?

As well as Diouff - where will he play.

If it is true we are after the spurs right back we have to take that into considration also with regards to Emerton and him playing rightback..

I don't rate Nolan at all and don't want him but come on this whole 'He said mean things about us and it made me cry so he can go away' attitude is pointless.

I couldn't care less what a player did or thought of Rovers before they came to be honest, all footballers are mercinaries these days, look at Friedel even.

You think Nolan is a great player?!?!?! Dear me...

The Bolton fans in general were happy as larry to be rid of him as he had done next to nothing at all for the last 3 or so seasons.

Then he even got dropped by Newcastle...

Nolan is not the required quality we should be looking for. Gobby twit as well.

Speaking of Newcastle midfielders, what does everyone of Danny Gutherie as a potential buy? Personally I like him, he seems to be someone who is happy to pick up the ball and run with it, a quality that is not often seen in central midfielder. And he's young, so he'll have resale value.

Chimbonda, Nolan, Guthrie and Neill? :D wouldn't want any of them, especially Nolan, who is utter @#/?. Bet Bolton can't believe they got 4M for him. Another great piece of business by the barcodes.

^ No and no, Lucash for wages, and not a fan of Nolan, and apprently he isn't a fan of us either!

I don't care if he's supported us all of his life, he's @#/?.

So is Lucas.

You haven't really made yourself very clear here and I'm not entirely sure what point it is that you're making.

Emerton should be considered first choice RB IMO. As such, it would be silly spending big money on somebody to play in that position. We now have Diouf on the RM, which means that we can afford to play Emerton at RB when we couldn't before.

I presume that this latest signing is something of a gamble and, being on a cheap, was an easy way to add some depth to the squad. Sam's comments that he does not envisage him being up to speed until at least Christmas would appear to support this theory.

We need depth at right back, but unless Sam plans to use Emerton at CM, then I don't see the point in spending big.

Does anybody know if we offered Shikabala a trial, or if he is just joining up with the squad for pre season?

The new chairman of his current club wants to keep him

"I will bring Shikabala and Agogo back to the team, because nowadays competent strikers are extremely hard to find," the new Zamalek president told Al-Hayat TV.

I agree here, I cant see how there are people that didnt notice how good Emo was at RB. He managed to keep quite a few good wingers quiet, lets face it, hes quick, strong & has a fantastic engine, also since he's been here he's grown as a player & has gained a lot of experience, this will stand him in good stead for playing as a full back. When we signed him, it was because he was playing so well in Holland (as a wing back!!!). He is not an out & out winger, he does do a good job in midfield, but his best position is at right back IMO.

We have signed a winger, fair enough, lets hope this guy starts putting pressure on Diouf & MGP, so we may see some good performances from them. But we need to fix the midfield as what we have isnt, strong enough in the air or on the floor & now Tugay's gone we will lack creativity & vision. If Dunny's fit then we go some way to dealing with it, but I think we need a defensive midfielder who will provide better cover infront of the back four & a creative attaking midfielder... Seriously, if we could have got Matias Fernandez then that would have sorted that one out, as far as a more defensive midfielder goes, im out of ideas, that Staphane M'bia is supposed to be good, but I've never seen him play.

Whatever happens I firmly believe that SA will choose wisely & spend his pennies well (after all thats all he's got isnt it!!). I'm confident of us having a good season next year, as long as we sort out the problems we have.

If any club comes knocking for Jason Roberts this summer, I hope we dont stand in his way, he seems to lose more finishing power the closer he gets to the net, the amount of 'one on ones' he missed this season was hard to stomach, we missed out on quite a few points as a result, next season im hoping we are fighting for europe, if he carries on like that that, the missed points could cost us dearly!!!

I can answer that one. The answer is a 100% definate no... He will take up a coaching role at Sunderland under the new manager... He is as loyal as they come, so fair play...

Does Bruce def want him though? I think Eric Black, Nigel Spink and Keith Bertschin are all joining Bruce as part of his backroom team at Sunderland.

Sbragia has very close ties to Allardyce, so would not be too surprised if he joined us....

Who knows. I know one person who has given personal assurances he will have a job though.

Niall Quinn... Doesn't go much higher...
