Just been talking to some German Pauli fans and they were saying that David Hoilett is by far thier best player and they obviously want him to stay. Can't believe he is their best player and only 18! By the sounds of it I wouldnt be suprised if a bigger German team gets him if thats possible with his work permit. No idea how much his is worth. Sounds like hes a plot of land waiting for planning permission regarding his value!

I know the following is a player Rovers haven't shown interest in, but Michael Mancienne could be available on loan ala Danny Simpson. Only he is hands down better.

Chelsea are looking to re-sign Johnson from Pompey by all accounts and Mancienne is pure quality from what i have seen of him...

Would solve our RB problem with him and Emerton. Opinions?

Would love it to happen, just cant see it happening.

Still surprised we have not seen Samba linked with other teams, yet......

It will happen, i have no doubts about that.

Sorry to break this to you Rev, but Ooijer and Givet were playing in the same team for five months.

We're one first team defender down on what we had at the end of the season and that needs fixing. Sam is looking at options so he obviously sees it that way too. I'm still struggling to see how anyone could see it any other way.

Only because Emerton was injured! If he hadn't been Ooijer would probably have been used sparingly as cover as he was during the rest of his Ewood career.

Man U have just put Darron Gibson on the transfer list! Reckon he's worth a shot......Danny Simpson and Frazer Campbell on there way out too

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-21413092/

I'd definitely take a look at Gibson and perhaps Campbell. They might be not good enough for Man United but the teams below they could develop into decent players.

"Ferguson hopes the sale of the trio will raise £10 million and Hull, who made repeated attempts to sign Campbell last summer, have already been in touch with United over the England Under-21 international.

Advertisement - article continues below »

Phil Brown had a £7 million bid rejected last year but with just a year remaining on his contract, the 21-year-old could go for £5 million.

Birmingham and Newcastle are set to enquire about £1 million-rated Simpson, while Gibson, who impressed in midfield in United Carling Cup run last term is attracting attention from newly-promoted Wolves."

£10m - £5m - £1m = £4 million for DARRON GIBSON.

I'm probably a bit too twentieth century for current transfer figures but I'd expect at least Ji Sung Park for that money.

If it were McCarthy leaving rather than Roque, I'd say we should DEFINITELY be after Campbell. As it is, however, the priority is a target man type. He'd make a cracking signing for a mid table Premier League side.

Wouldn't Frazier Campbell make a quality free signing to replace Derbyshire?

Here we go again!! :blink:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...lash-wages.html

"Alan Smith = Cheap replacement for Roque" according to the Daily Mail. If they or Sam believe that BS then we should start looking for a new manager now... Calling Smith a replacement for Roque is beyond a joke... It's crazy!

Nicko, can you just clarify this story. Are we interested in Alan Smith at all? I bloody hope not!

Ah, god bless our mates at the Daily Mail, they're off to an early start this summer!

You're right though, Smith for Roque would be tantamount to sealing our relegation now! Here's a question, when did Smith last score a Prem League goal?

The other thing that strikes me about that article is if we really think Derbyshire is worth 5m, he must be good enough for a place in our starting eleven let alone the squad!

Alan Smith - 100 League Games Played - 7 Goals Scored

Roque Santa Cruz - 57 League Games Played - 23 Goals Scored

No contest.

Roverseas, do you really think it's a good idea to pay out what little of our budget we have, on a player who has played 100 Games in 5 years...

If we signed Alan Smith as a striker or a midfielder, i would be disgusted with Sam and the club... Who would you rather pay out £40k's wages out to, Alan Smith or Daniel Sturridge? Oh and Daniel Sturridge would be a free...

Do we have any good young defenders in our reserve/ youth team? Maybe one of them can step up to Zurab's position and save us £25k/ £1.3m (approx) in wages

Yes - Gavin Gunning. He made excellent progress in the Reserves last season. Probably needs some time on loan in the Championship to get first team experience but he can play centre-back or left-back and towards the end of last season he was looking very good.

I think Chelsea might disagree with the free bit.

I really like Alan Smith but if he comes here it will be to strengthen our midfield and possibly provide backup for the attack (perhaps instead of Derbs). It will have nothing to do with Roque, of that I'm sure.

what an utterly disgusting prospect..................we would be a laughing stock if this ever happened. 2.5m are they for real, try free with newcastle playing half his wages if there is an ounce of truth in it. i despise the daily mail fo be-littling our club with these slurs, can we please get back to being linked with good sounding foreign targets and not the washed up dregs of the championship.

Did I say we should sign him and pay him £40kpw? As far as I'm aware, I didn't. I said I like the fellow and if he does come here, it won't have anything to do with Roque. What's with the sniping? Jeez, ease up a bit, eh?

I note no-one has dared put their name to that Mail article - it goes under the name of "Sportsmail Reporter"

Almost like a team of lads from the sportsdesk have gone on the lash after work and said "It's only Blackburn what's the most outrageous story we can come up with to **** them off!"

The other thing which makes me think it's not on the level is it's not normal these days for a Club to continue paying someone's wages after they've left permanently is it?

Especially not one in Newcastle's situation.

I think Chelsea might disagree with the free bit.

Was using him as a example. The moral of the story is their are better, young, less injury prone, goalscoring center forwards out there on a free transfer...

As far as im aware, you said, "I really like Alan Smith" which is enough to warrant a reply. What on God's green Earth could have warrented him getting your praise?! If you sign players with horrific injury records, poor scoring count, high wages, for a cash signing then you deserve/should expect relegation.

If we sign Smith, firstly we will become a laughing stock, secondly, prospective players will turn their noses up at us and finally, we will be eating into our wage budget making it less possible for us to bring anyone else in...

Fine, if Smith wants to play for free and sign for free, im all for it... If not, no thanks...

Man U don't put players on the transfer list.

Tosh.

I don't know. Clearly those players do not have a future at man utd, good as they are. Actually Gibson is a surprise because they lack international centrabacks beyond Vidic and Ferdinand. But Simpson and Frazer Campbell will go this summer definately.

One man's "transfer list" is another man's having a word and saying "he's available for the right price".... Same difference.
