RibbleValleyRover Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Zaki is the complete package- when he is switched on. When I first saw him play for Wigan, he had everything you would want from a centre forward, I would be pleased with this signing- Nicko any truth? Had a great start to the season then looked very average. Was he found out? Did the opposition find a way to completely nullify him? I don’t want to tar all Egyptian players with the same brush, but every Egyptian player I can think of has had some attitude problems and off the field issues. Ghaly, Mido, Zaki this Shikabala guy we have been linked to… have all been hard work to deal with.

joey_big_nose Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I believe the Zaki deal is going to happen - don't know whether its good or not, cos he has a bad attitude and hasn't scored since the turn of the year. Whoah, step back! Is this the mystery striker then? The guy is a toolbag. But he has talent. And if we are getting him to play with Cruz - so he effectively takes Derbyshire's spot - thats pretty good! How much do we pay? Edit - if he isn't the mystery striker whats going on? I thought we didn't have much cash? Maybe he only cost 3 million or something? But then six months ago he was being touted at 10?....
Fylde Coast Fan Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Vital Football is usually about as reliable as Teamtalk or Goal.com so I won't panic just yet, but Zaki sounds like a horrendous idea to me.
BigJackWalker Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 It says we are set to sign Zaki http://www.wigan.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=156544 That good new I rate highly and thats the target man we need

Ghaly, Mido, Zaki this Shikabala guy we have been linked to… have all been hard work to deal with. He scored 10 goals in the league from 22 starts, that is a good record, he accepted that he made mistakes and Sam would be the ideal manager to tame him. There is no doubting his talent and ability though, 2 goals were against Liverpool so its not as though the opposition was poor.
roversmum Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Vital Football is written by just ordinary fans like you and me. They therefore don't have much more of a clue than you or me or that so-called journalist who writes for the Mail.

They therefore don't have much more of a clue than you or me or that so-called journalist who writes for the Mail. They are not usually as definite as that - they say he will be signed in the article, no messing around - plus we have had one corroboration on here. Sounds like it will happen to me, like Heerden a couple of days ago. Can't figure out where we found the money though?...
USRoverME Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Just scanned back so if I missed it, someone correct me... but while watching the yanks WC qualifier last night, while they were getting torn apart by Costa Rica, I found myself watching a game on Saprissa's home turf, adn watching a kid named Celso Borges play well. Weren't we linked with him a while back, maybe under Hughes? Still looked a decent player, though it looks like he's now at Fredrickstad... any running interest from the club in him?
tony gale's mic Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 This Zaki story sounds rubbish, but you never know. It all depends on the fee but if we've got him relatively cheaply I'd be happy. There's absolutely no doubting his talent.
philipl Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Pretty confident Mr X is not Zaki ...another one for a signature quote!
tcj_jones Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I'm pretty sure that Nicko dismissed Zaki as the myestery striker. After showing Wigan such complete distain, I'm not sure if he'd really favour a move to a club of relatively similar stature. I do like Zaki, but feel that we really need to focus our resources on a towering target man who will suit Sam's style of play. I have a feeling that Sam is also thinking this way.
Fylde Coast Fan Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Weren't they touting Zaki as £8m+ not so long ago? I can't see that Sam would spend more than £3m on a striker without Roque leaving first.
joey_big_nose Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I don't understand the money side of it, but he is basically an Egyptian Kevin Davis so I can see why Sam would be interested.
The Rover of Finland Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Zaki was really good at first but he seems to be an idiot. But he comes and scores enough shall him be idiot. Not my first choise.
alexanders Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I would LOVE zaki as partner for both Roberts and Roque Santa Cruz. If we could sell Benni and get mystery striker in our attacking line would be very good! Some thoughts from Amr Zaky himself about his stay at Wigan
Dunnfc Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Carlos Tenorio released from AL Sadd, a player who was quoted at 5 million last summer who's now 30 and known for his quick speed and heading abilitties, could be someone who we could take a look at on trial?
Fylde Coast Fan Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I would LOVE zaki as partner for both Roberts and Roque Santa Cruz. If we could sell Benni and get mystery striker in our attacking line would be very good! Some thoughts from Amr Zaky himself about his stay at Wigan Zaki and Roberts.. two ageing bulky strikers with a strong disinclination to find the net.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Big Sam distanced the club from Zaki last week didn't he... If we could get him on loan with a view, i wouldn't be unhappy. Can't say i have heard anything about him joining though... Heard he was being eyed up by a team in the UAE...
imy9 Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Zaki and Roberts.. two ageing bulky strikers with a strong disinclination to find the net. Zaki is 26...
Ewood and I Would Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I would LOVE zaki as partner for both Roberts and Roque Santa Cruz. If we could sell Benni and get mystery striker in our attacking line would be very good! Some thoughts from Amr Zaky himself about his stay at Wigan After reading that I'm starting to dislike the guy already. Blames not coming back on time on his relaxed culture then goes onto to disregard his poor second half of the season by comparing himself to much better strikers...many of whom had injuries to excuse their inability to match his 10 goals.
T4E Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Pretty confident Mr X is not Zaki ...another one for a signature quote! Zaki is not Mr X the Mystery Striker™. I know this for a fact. See post below - http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php?s=&...st&p=761424 This is the post that sparked the Mystery Striker™ speculation.
Inta Beaver Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 A) He was the only good defender in a woefull defence. If you put Samba in a 4 man defence made up of the West Brom defence and him minus Olsson, they would have still been relegated... Would you interested in taking this guy for around £4m? He was in a shocking team but he didn't shine in that team, I watched the game on the tele against Liverpool, he was awful! He was very lucky not to give away a pen on Gerrard and made a shocking block on Torres, the lad is a liability!
alexanders Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 What about this guy? Erwin Hoffer Good goal scoring record and a potencially very good striker I think. Nicko: I see that everyone is expecting Tuncay to Liverpool. Do you know anything about who is interested in him and where he might end up?
HemelRover Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I watched the game on the tele against Liverpool, he was awful! the lad is a liability! Although, to be fair, the above statement could also apply to Vidic. He had 2 mares against Liverpool.
