nicko Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Earlier than promised...between excellent Island Record documentaries on BBC4... MATT DERBYSHIRE...has been told he can't go until Sam signs TWO new strikers...this from a very good source...strange but perhaps revealing...hopefully my Mister X...I have a hunch on the other one but had better keep that quiet until I am sure...but it sounds like there could be two incoming strikers soon-ish. SUNDAY PEOPLE...will have a good tale about a potential midfield capture...fits the current bill and would be well-received. Full story in the paper or else on her on Sunday morning.

So matty + ??????? Out then. I take it the two strikers in, is not influenced by RSC?? Oh and cheers, good news. PS is it Biglia???
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 All sounds promising, thanks for the heads-up.

McCarthy on his way out possibly? Hope the fact the two strikers might be coming in first doesn't indicate they are low cost and low quality.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Why is everybody jumping to the conclusion that two will leave? Last season proved we need another.

Thanks for the update Nicko - looking forward to the unveiling of the potential midfielder :-)
The Rover of Finland Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 It sounds like bye bye Benni. Interesting update Nicko. Mrs. Nixon must hate football..atleast off seasons
rovers1995 Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Maybe it's not bye bye Benni (at least i hope not). Derbs out - 2 strikers in Roque out - money spend on top class midfielders Up front options - Roberts, Benni, 2 x new strikers
EwoodGlory Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Why is everybody jumping to the conclusion that two will leave? Last season proved we need another. Exactly. Must be 2 cheap ones unless we've found a few million £ under the pitch when it got dug up.

Majiball Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Why is everybody jumping to the conclusion that two will leave? Last season proved we need another. It has to be, we are cutting the wage bill by five million quid. We'll be fine with 4.
Kelbo Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 It looks like Sam isnailing it here, two strikers, then if Roque goes at the last minute, we will still be able to have four strikers at the club! (or if Santas injury doesnt clear up) he knows the ropes does Sam, trust him, this guy is no mug, knows where he's going and what he wants, good solid management and all being done much earlier than last season!! But, the deals have yet to be done.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 If 2 strikers are leaving, im guessing it will be Derbs and Gally. Bit disappointed with Roberts coming out and disagreeing with the gaffer over Tugay earlier. could have done without that!
The Rover of Finland Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Definitely happy to see Big Sam is awake early. Benni should be bye bye. He is too expensive bench player. And if he is another starting striker the team ain´t strong enough.

Sounds very promising - I love the fact that Big Sam seems to be moving very quickly so that he has aslong as possible to work with his new squad. Also looks like the board may of given Sam the funds upfront so that he can do the business and then maybe replace the money later once he shifts players out?!?

modes98 Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Benni should be bye bye. He is too expensive bench player. Not very expensive when he is your top scorer in 2 of the 3 seasons he has been at the club. You know who's more expensive, a striker that struggles to score goals i.e. Jason Roberts! Benni McCarthy is a proven regular goal scorer in the Premier League. Believe it or not they are quite hard to just find for the sort of budget we have.
Kelbo Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 And if RSC doesn't go????? My guess he knows he can shift another striker!!
Hughesy Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Dont forget Benni's scoring record under Big Sam, it was very impressive if someone wants to work it out again...
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 Id hope Roberts leaves before McCarthy does, proven prem quality does not come around that often. Roberts is handy but useless in front of goal - which lets face it is what he is here for. I think we're two decent enough strikers and a creative midfield player away from a midtable squad (assuming we keep the likes of Warnock/RSC)
nicko Posted June 5, 2009 Posted June 5, 2009 As for the Island Records documentaries, have they mentioned Autopilot Off yet? I was waiting on the Sutherland Brothers...but they never got a look-in. Mind you, interesting to check the history of Steve and Muff Winwood, who were both part of the band's team in the 70s. Happy days.

I think we're two decent enough strikers and a creative midfield player away from a midtable squad (assuming we keep the likes of Warnock/RSC) i'd sooner benni went out the door old buggers legs have gone, either that or he really is just plain lazy.........roberts does a shift keeping the oppo on the back foot, getting a passenger off the wages while he still has some value would be a great start to the summer. looking back on that entire season when bennis head supposedly was'nt at the races because he never got a move to chelsea and reflecting now,,,,,,,,,,,as if he'd ever have got near the chelsea first 11. i hate the guy for bleeding us dry and not being the player he was in his first season not through injury but because he had an 18 month sulk on for not getting a move.
mick Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 the reference to the spencer davis group by nicko might indicate that the well received midfielder is of the same name as the band...for those of us who are looking for clues to the names of incoming rovers.
dazmaz Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Maybe it's not bye bye Benni (at least i hope not). Derbs out - 2 strikers in Roque out - money spend on top class midfielders Up front options - Roberts, Benni, 2 x new strikers i agree, why are people on his back. HE SCORES GOALS. and the last time i looked thats what hes paid to do. same with MGP, so he doesnt score all that much, hes a winger FFS his job is to create chances. am i watching a different Blackburn Rovers to everyone else? if any striker should go its Roberts, he couldn't hit the jack walker stand from 3 yards away!! support the squad we have regardless of how good they are and stop b******g all the f*****g time you childern rant over =D
