67splitscreen Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 BBC story from yesterday morning says that the deal is close and Wigan hope to announce it "early next week". No hurry I guess, players are on holiday and the transfer window is still closed. Whealan is on holiday until Wednesday, they have agreed a three year deal, contract will be signed wednesday afternoon.

RoversSG Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Does anyone here rate Jo? I'm sure he will be surplus to requirements at Man City if they sign RSC, Dezko, Tevez, Eto or whoever else they're linked with. It might be worth a gamble or a swap deal. After all, he was once worth 17m and can't be too bad.
alexanders Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Nicko, have you heard anything about interest in Achille Emana? Real Betis was relegated and he says it is very likely that he is leaving. He is an attacking midfielder and I guess he will be in the region around £5m. Pompey, West Ham, Everton and Newcastle have all been linked with him during summer 2008.
47er Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 From Nicko in todays People----------Rovers" scouts "excited" about Shikabala, his club wants 3.8M. Sam still keen on Faye--------Stoke want 2M. Also Sam unhappy about what he has to spend on transfers and salaries and will attempt to renegotiate it once he's got his own situation settled.
I_saw_Batty_score Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Nicko's people article Rothen Would fit our midfield well - never scores any goals Nicko - hope the People don't pay you by the word.
Bobby G Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 A bit of a giveaway at the end of the Rothen article in that Big Sam is looking for a top striker on loan. I thought the striker we wanted was joining permanently...Now it makes sense how we can get someone who will walk straight into our first team without breaking the bank.

So what's new about this name? It's been bandied about for the last 2 or 3 weeks. Hardly exciting.
67splitscreen Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Now we know why nicko said wait until the mornig, at least the sun is trying to make an appearance.
roversmad95 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Where did he say that? about 2 weeks ago when it all started about the mystry striker said he was better than zaki and a few other guys we was guessing at....
nicko Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 ROTHEN - wants to come...trying to get out of his contract at PSG...that one has a chance of happening...good player if a little old...but he can play and pass and you don't have many of them since Tugay left...it's encourgaing that you are looking for that type of player rather than the giant athlete route...hope it goes through. ROQUE - reports about Spurs trying to sign him for £10 million somewhere...no chance at that fee. DERBYSHIRE - the news you knew on Friday night.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 ROQUE - reports about Spurs trying to sign him for £10 million somewhere...no chance at that fee. 10 million and Bent, and im sure they'd have a deal...
philipl Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 I can only reiterate, if Spurs get a few of their non-performers away at over the top prices, they are going to be right nuisances to Rovers this summer.
roversmad95 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 nicko, you said BS wanted to get 2 strikers in is that one on loan and us buying one or are they both on loan? so rothen(CM) and chimbonda(RB) at least he is looking at the problem areas on the field got to give us confidence in BS..... with 2 strikers to come and we already have a new RM... happy days....
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Didn't Sam say he was looking at bringing some youth and pace into the club? If Chimbonda and Rothen came in, wouldn't that be going against that somewhat? Nicko, have we got any young players on the radar as far as you know?
donis1410 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 So who exactly are the mystery strikers and the one that will "walk" into the starting XI coz I am a bit confused
The Rover of Finland Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Rothen would be great signing. He has played left wing but recently CM. He´d be our Giggs that way I just can´t understand Chimbonda intrest. He is quite expensive too. Seitaridis or Finnan would be better. Still no names for new potential strikers. Sure someone else than Nicko knows something too..
roversmad95 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 i thought the same but if he can get them at the right price and the right contract fair play... rothen is 31 and chimbonda is 30 im sure we could get 2 or 3 years out of them ... ooijer was about the same age and he worked out ok... just depends on how much we spend but they are what we need at the club they are both good....
donis1410 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Saw in the Mirror that Civelli is likely to sign for Brum, where the hell do they get all their money 9m on Benetez they always spend loads when they come up and then get relegated!!!! its probably due to the sex market in britain, good old David Gould!!!
67splitscreen Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 If Mr X is still on the cards, I cant see how it has not broke in the papers yet. After over two weeks of negotiations with (i assume) the club, you would think we would have been given permission to speak with the player and agent if we had found some common ground. Could be on a down hill spiral but Im only guessing, these things do take time.
AspRover Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Interesting that in the bbc gossip collumn Tottenham are being linked with Van Nistelrooy for £1.25m can't say he's ever appealed but as a goal poacher he wouldn't be disasterous, even at 32...

tcj_jones Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 £1.25m for a player of Nistelrooy's quality tp a club who already make allowances for a huge wage bill is great business. That said, I'm not sure where exactly that would leave Defoe, Keane and Pavluchenko.
