beerwins Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 That would be "The Bull" Salvador Cabañas, doubt Coyle has even heard of him. Thought it was Óscar Cardozo not much chance of us signing him , would be a lovely target man though, he is a big ol boy at 6'4" .

JAL Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 I'm not a fan either. His long range passing is excellent, but that's just about the only good attriubute I can see in him. Steven Reid was a better player. Unfortunately, the last time he was fully fit was so long ago that I doubt he'll ever be up to Premier League standard again. Exactly tcj, thats how I view him, its not as if hes a regular nailed on starter in a mixed bag Spurs team. Huddlestone is soft, too soft he makes Robbie Savage look a hard man.
Backroom DE. Posted June 7, 2009 Backroom Posted June 7, 2009 It's quite amusing seeing the oldies blame this newfangled youngsters 'championship manager' game for the swap suggestions, particularly as swaps are as rare in the game as in real life... but don't let facts get in the way of taking digs at people who play it anyway The Mystery striker has me totally confused. It sounds as if he'll either be a potential gem from the lower leagues or a relative unknown or untested (at higher level) player from abroad... don't see how such a player would be so sure to have a starting role in our team or how they'd be better than a player with the pedigree of Kuranyi... interesting, if not strange.
AggyBlue Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Steven Reid was a better player. Unfortunately ...panics under pressure and passes the ball backwards more than forwards. Not ideal traits for a midfielder.

Steven Reid was a better player. Unfortunately, the last time he was fully fit was so long ago that I doubt he'll ever be up to Premier League standard again. I think the reason most are fans of Huddlestone is that he does have exceptional range of passing and very good techinque. He is an entertainer. Sure he is slow as a tree, as Nicko would say, but then so was Tugay (and so is, to be honest, Grella!). He really the only player in the division who I have seen who could emulate the Turk in quality. However the one question i have about him is that he does seem to lack the desire for the killer pass. He often needlessly (yet immaculately) picks out wide players with cross field long balls, when a clever pass through the middle would be far more devastating. If Huddlestone masters thechoice of pass, and plays in a side which will compensate for his lack of movement, he will be a cracking player. These are not easy things to achieve though. Worth a punt, but I would never pay more than two or three million. But I hope he does develop because so many English players are atheletes these days, whereas he would actually be the sort of footballer people would be proud of if he became good enough to feature in the national team.
beerwins Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Football manager is basically a huge players database accurate or not thats your choice, games are becoming as real life like as they possibly can be and you can be sure that anyone who has an interest in football professional or not will be sniffing around it, barry always signs for city btw at the start of a new game for me , spooky. As for the mr X striker i think there is going to be a lot of sad faces either way with this one , either he isnt going to be very good or if he is good we wont get him (sorry im a rovers fan) and i have to be realistic.
hi-jaq Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 ...panics under pressure and passes the ball backwards more than forwards. Not ideal traits for a midfielder. Totally agree here, Reidy is a good player, but his only strengths are his his workrate & stamina. He cant play out wide (cant cross or dribble), and imo, not enough quality to be a starter in centre mid. He has had some great games for us, but cant stay fit, so cant be relied upon. I rate Huddlestone, I think the boy has potential, and lets be honest here, he can pass well, has a decent touch for a big lad & I think hes fairly switched on (in regards to the mental aspects of a football match) when he's on the pitch. Given some physical training I think he could become an imposing figure in our midfield, i know he's not so mobile, but our entire midfield could have been given that same label this last season. Worth a look imo, especially if there's a good deal for him, as I think Reidys days should be numbered, as much as I like him, 15-20 grand a week sat on the physio's table is'nt any good, if we let him go & can replace him with Huddlestone, I for one, wouldnt be disappointed.
braddock Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 i see this board is still doom and gloom, over-analysing everything I'm sorry if this has been mentioned or is just simply ridiculous but i heard a rumour about rovers in for m'bia for £4mil. i presumed it was someone confused over m'bami's name, but either way, with either player, what is the latest on that nicko?

No one with half a brain is going to take Reidy. We have to keep him. Why do people not get that?
hi-jaq Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 No one with half a brain is going to take Reidy. We have to keep him. Why do people not get that? Good job there's clubs about that buy players like Jimmy Bullard, when he's as injury prone as Reidy. Anyway I understand that its a big 'IF' with regards to a club coming in for him, but it wasn't long ago when he was fit & playing that there were clubs like spurs looking at him. I reckon if Rovers wanted to sell they could, I dont think that we have to keep him, nor do I think we should, if we can bring in better players.
Mc Love Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Even though you are against it Alan, it seems one of your colleagues from the mirror thinks we are in battle with Stoke and Sunderland for the signing of Alan Smith
Rover down South Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Two names to throw into the hat are for the mystery striker, could it be either: Ben Sahar or Giovanni Dos Santos
beerwins Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Even though you are against it Alan, it seems one of your colleagues from the mirror thinks we are in battle with Stoke and Sunderland for the signing of Alan Smith I saw a post by nicko stating 3 club rule, if 3 clubs are in for him its simply tosh.
budha Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Two names to throw into the hat are for the mystery striker, could it be either: Ben Sahar or Giovanni Dos Santos Sahar could be worth a try as some website was taking him to Spain for £1M. As for being the The Mystery One, he was going to walk to our starting XI, which Sahar wouldn't do.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Didn't Nicko say he would be putting in a Rovers related story into the Mirror today that didn't go into the Sunday People? I can't see it??
Hughesy Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Sahar isnt proven - has he even played in the premier league? Not worth signing yet - maybe a loan!? Its a shame Hull have gone daft with the Campbell deal, he's a good prospect - but for £6m too expensive. Any news on where Lita is going now he is a free agent? He could be a direct replacement for Derbyshire if we sell him for £4m. Also on the Derbs thing - I read yesterday that we are asking for £1m in extra's + add-ons (maybe a sell-on clause?)
nicko Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 The unused story was about the kid Hoilett... Rovers are putting a strong case together to get him a work permit. I think it is an important tale, but obviously this is a view not shared. Hope the kid is allowed into the country.

Do you want to say that again?? I said do you want to......... Take it our scouts have been impressed by him then?

Reid has had one good 3 month spell in all his time here. The rest of the time he has been either injured (not his fault) of woeful. He is a player who playes well when confident but poorly when under confident and imo his natural confidence level is definitely suspect and very brittle.
Majiball Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Isn't Sahar on the verge of joining Espanyol?????? Is this Hoillet kid that good????

I wonder if there comes a time when the club can call and end to his contract due to his inability to perform his job through injury and let the insurance take over ??
Hughesy Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Hoilett has been getting rave reviews by the club he plays for in Germany - their fans think he is their best player by far (despite his age), also bigger German clubs like the look of him. He looks very, very quick too which could give us something in the future. Maybe worth bringing back to england and giving the odd sub appearance to see if he can make an impact. Im liking the fact that Sam seems to keen to add pace to our squad.
adbo99 Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 You know, the fans on here receive you a lot better if you just admit your a Villa fan, your not the first and won't be the last one to come onto the website to find out about transfers. I am a Villa fan, I just don't ask any questions anymore and quite like the backroom Blackburn stories! im actually a villa fan whos got a long term love affair with the rovers as well, due to my parents best friends being from Grt Harwood, and spending the majority of weekends during my life up in that part of the world, predominantly spending saturday afternoons at Ewood......... so yeah im a villa fan, but I dont come on the site to dig all things villa cos I actually like to see whats happening at Rovers
dave birch Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 Tom, and adbo99, there was a time when fans of any club could come on here and have a chat, as long as they weren't abusive and disrespectful. They were accepted as football fans, and that was enough. Alas, times have changed
