Hughesy Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Setanta are linking Wolves with Roberts - Roberts to Wolves??? Would you sell?? Benmax - 20k? Do you honestly believe that? A player who had attracted the interest of Spurs & United and we then turned down Spurs official bid for him (as per the player) - do you think his new contract was only worth 20k a week?? Never! Full contract = £3m (Based on 30k), so £2m would be the cheapest he would go - like Joey said, Reid could end up on the scraphead if we dumped him.

tcj_jones Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Yeah, got to agree with Hughesy there. Wasn't he offered a big long term contract shortly before getting injured in order to supposedly fend off interest from the likes of Man UTD and Spurs? £30k is probably nearer the mark.
BRFC1995 Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Reid's contract expires in July 2011... I have just checked... thats very depressing............can we afford to offer anyone a contract longer than 3 years anymore, dread knowing how long dunn has left. I hope the monumental insurance that football clubs pay in such cases covers the vast majority of their wages. can it not got to a point where a doctor can say they're careers are over and they get a payout and the club washes its hands of them.........sure thats happened before. I would sell Roberts. Doesn't score enough goals. offers so much more than mccarthy it ain't true, as posted about 20 pages back if you take the pennos off bennis stats and see what he does from open play he should'nt get near the 1st 11( and benni has missed pennos so its not like he's the greatest at that though clearly better than diouff at it)

Sure was. 4 year contract I think!? He did actually consider Spurs, but his missus wanted to stay close to family - so he stayed loyal. 95 - Getting compo for a player's career being over is very difficult - look at Dahlin for us. Also think how we lost the Talent of Matty Jansen and got nothing for it too!! As for Roberts vs Benni Arguement - Benni is a complete higher class to Roberts. "Benni Misses pens", whats your point? Roberts missed about 7 one on ones last season, including open goals. People are so biased against Benni its unreal.
Ronin Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Setanta are linking Wolves with Roberts - Roberts to Wolves??? Would you sell?? Interesting who Setanta suggest for Rovers, although most have already been mentioned on here already. http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Footbal...ist/gnid-53012/

Blue n White Rover Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Interesting who Setanta suggest for Rovers, although most have already been mentioned on here already. http://www.setanta.com/uk/Articles/Footbal...ist/gnid-53012/ Stupid article! I would be amazed if any of them players ended up at Ewood!
LeChuck Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Also think how we lost the Talent of Matty Jansen and got nothing for it too!! He played in many games after his accident and went to Bolton afterwards. I'm sure the injury has to make them physically incapable of playing football in the opinion of a medical expert to get compensation, if it just makes them inadequate for the Premier League then that's not good enough because it's far too subjective. If Reid directly retires from this injury after listening to medical advice then we might have a case, but if he goes and plays another game elsewhere I don't think we'll have a chance of compo. Could be wrong with that but I can't see how else insurance for players would work.

I didn't realise that. McCarthy scores goals. Roberts in the same amount of games will score less goals than Benni. Hense Benni McCarthy has a Champions League winners medal in his house and Jason Roberts has a Championship runners up medal.
farhanology Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 what happened to our interest in Michel Chretien? Or is Sam gonna unearth old scout reports speaking of which, is Barry Whitbread still our head scout? A worry if he is, I remember rumours surfaced that Ince wanted Whitbread's son Zak from Millwall to shore up the defence!
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Setanta are linking Wolves with Roberts - Roberts to Wolves??? Would you sell?? Not where i found out Wolves were interested in Roberts... nicko Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 what happened to our interest with Michel Chretien? Or is Sam gonna unearth old scout reports As I recall he missed a lot of games with injury - so he might be watched when the new season starts. But it's not a name I have heard mentioned lately because he was not playing too much...
joey_big_nose Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I'm sure players have done it in the past. He seems a decent bloke and he'll have pride. Do you really think he'd be happy sitting on that contract for 2 years knowing he's not really earning a penny of it? That would surely get him down quite badly. If his career is knackered I'm sure he'd rather take a lump sum to end his contract and get on building a new career for himself. Um, what? You think he would walk away from a million pounds when the only career he has ever known is football, the economy is in recession, and there is no work out there? Even if it there was a flipping gold rush sparked in the ribble valley I doubt Reid would be rushing off with his sieve. It would be stupid to the point of irresponsibility for him to walk out on his contract. It's two years of his life and a vast amount of money. He can't turn his back on it. The deal with a contract is both sides sign it knowing the risks. We wanted to keep Reid, so we offered the money and the term. It is not Reid's fault he is injured. This is the nature of football.
tcj_jones Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 His contract is £20,000 a week... How do you know that?
Fylde Coast Fan Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Reidy's been unlucky with two very serious injuries - it's not like he's a Michael Johnson or even a Roque. At least give him a proper go at getting fit again and a chance to show whether he can be the Reidy of old before you throw him on the scrapheap. I know we've paid him a lot of money to sit out injured but it's not his fault, and we can't get that money back.
tcj_jones Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Reid has been far more injury prone than Michael Johnson!
Fylde Coast Fan Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Reid has been far more injury prone than Michael Johnson! Johnson's missed a full year with a hip injury that no one can explain. Reid BROKE HIS SPINE and then tore his ACL not long after coming back. Maybe Johnson was a bad example - how about Abu Diaby at Arsenal. He seems to rip a tendon every six weeks - that's "injury prone".
1864roverite Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Bunn will move up to our No.2. Trust me, Brown wants to leave, and Sam's not going to stop him... Brown is going to PNE, Bunn is wnated by Forest and Leicester whilst Rovers are still hoping to exchange Lonergan from PNE for Brown.
tcj_jones Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 I'd have Lonergan over Brown any day. I've never seen a goalkeeper with a worse kick than our Jason, it's actually quite embarrassing to watch!

He'll forever be a hero for booting the ball accidentally at Ronaldo who was facing the other way earlier this season (and hitting him).

Ossydave Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 Brown must get some credit for the crucial away win at Hull too, some excellent saves in that game late on when we were all bricking ourselves.
