No, he's always been crap imo!.

Bit annoyed about the game - I watched the first half but turned over at half time thinking they would win having got that fluke goal in the 46th minute. Would have loved watching them crash and burn thereafter.

Just looked at the comments on the Skysport site and one Liverpool fan observed Rafa's brought in 48 players since 2005!

Houllier spent well over 100m before him too! All that money scattered to the 4 winds. Imo many football managers with lots of money to spend are a lethal combination. Aren't we lucky that ours rarely get much chance to waste any?

Hang on a minute. Somewhere in the middle of your analysis Liverpool won the European Cup. How much further are we scattering??

By a total fluke. Like the kind of 1 in 20 fluke we saw in LUFC beating MU last week.

btw I'll never decry Lpool or anybody's achievement in winning the European cup in the past but you are referring to the Champions League. Totally different kettle of fish, and they weren't even Champions.

btw as a matter of interest what do you estimate the value financially to a club like Lpool of winning the CL is Tris?

It is still the European Cup or European Champion Clubs Cup to be exact. Same trophy, same competition, just with easier and more multiple routes into it and with a fancy, money-spinning group phase attached to the front of it. But it's still the same trophy they're playing for.

Find it funny that SSN are headling with Liverpool knocked out of the F.A cup by managerless Reading, sounding like nobody was in charge and the players just turned up and between them just picked 11 of them to go out on the pitch, the caretaker manager not getting much credit here.

Credit where its due - If I was a Royals fan then id be calling for him to get the job.

He set his team up very well, they created lots of opportunites and they deserved their win.

Some other news:

Paul Hart is fighting to save his job as QPR manager after falling out with midfielder Adel Taarabt. The 56-year-old only took over as boss in December.

The 2nd manager to fall out with him & could now be the second to get the sack......What does this lad have on the owner??

And a strange one -

Manager Roberto Mancini plans to overhaul his Manchester City players' pre-match meal, introducing pizza and wine to the menu. "You need chicken, pizza, carbohydrates, even a glass of wine, but they are not on the table," he said.

Say what you like about Liverpool's finances, Benitez spent a combined £35m on Aquilani, Lucas and Babel - all of who looked decidedly ordinary against Reading last night. They should have had enough to contain a spirited Reading side, which clearly shows how far they've fallen under Rafa Benitez.

Right, total fluke. They knocked out Chelsea and Juventus along the way, as well as getting to the final again 2 years later.

I think Benitez is a superb tactical manager, he just happens to buy 3 failures before each success in the transfer market...

Maureen still disputes that.

Tactical manager? His natural preferred tactic is to leave your best players on the bench whenever possible?

No, his natural preferred tactic these days is to play his best players whether they're injured or not!

At any other club, he's have been sacked by now. He's living off past successes at Valencia and his Champions League trophy, which is obscuring his otherwise average to poor record as the manager of a top four side who have backed him heavily in the transfer market (another fact that people seem to disputing, when the facts are right there in front of them).

Weird rotation policie; risking his top players week after week despite being injured; spending huge amounts on poor players; looking to replace one of the world's best deep lying creative midfielders with one who simply isn't as good; relying on one striker to push for trophies on four fronts; collecting average full backs, then flogging them off for less a season later; spending £18m on one when other priorities were glaring him in the face; a zonal marking system that has failed year after year...

Anything else I've missed?

The league's most over-rated manager, without a doubt.

Zaki to Stoke for 1million pounds <_< ... i would take him, over Roberts right now. although, he might disappear and nobody will be able to locate him

A complete loose cannon IMO.

He was branded too unprofessional for Egypt! He'd screw us over completely and utterly. Best left alone!*

* He will now finish top scorer in the Prem...

Rafa has spent more cash in his time @ Liverpool than United have in the same time period - and look at the difference.

As for the Champs league - had Milan not had a half time party & glass of wine - they would of won the final easy! Liverpool got very lucky by some unprofessional behaviour from Milan.

This is his first win since he took over just under a month ago, they are in the same league position. One win should not get him the job permanently.

It was a big step in the right direction

2 league draws, 1 loss, 1 draw against Liverpool and then last nights performance

Portsmouth 'keeper David James in talks to join Stoke

Sources close to James told ESPN Soccernet on Thursday morning: "It looks like the loan to Stoke will be tied up today. It's just a question of the two clubs sorting it out, but it will only be a loan, simply a six-month loan, until the end of the season, at which point David will be free to explore all his options."

...

James will have to compete with Thomas Sorensen for the number one shirt under Tony Pulis at Stoke, but ESPN Soccernet was told last month that James would not move unless he felt he would be given the first-team spot.

I wonder where Sorensen would be going if this was to turn out true?
