West ham have had a bid of £4m rejected by WBA for a player..

Where has this money come from. We are a well run club no high wages like west ham but yet we could not bid that..

According to the bbc the player was Graham Dorrens, personally I'd love him at Rovers. Would be just what we need in the midfield, howver can't see West Brom selling him straight after promotion!

They're going to be getting £20+ extra for being in the Premier League.

Burnley managed to spend a similar amount on Fletcher for the same reasons. They wouldn't have been able to repeat it again had they stayed up, same as West Brom.

All promoted clubs usually spend at least £6-8 million, it just comes with the extra PL money,

Indeed but if they try to keep a strict limit on wages like Burnley creditibly did then its no wonder other clubs try to entice their players (or managers) away either.

Surely they'd get a better [ayout just for staying in the premier league. So yes they got £20m this summer for coming up but they'll get a larger slice of the cake next summer if they stay up. If they keep players on sensible contracts there's surely no reason that they wont have money to spend then.

I've been having the similar argument with a guy at work for years. He is firmly of the belief that clubs are better off getting promoted to the prem, then getting relegated, then getting promoted agian. His justification of this is that they get parachute payments when they get relegated and then get a big payday when they get promoted. He can't seem to get it into his head that finishing 17th each season would see the club better off.

The payout for 17th is far better than the parachute payments and the [rize money for promotion to the prem.

+ the reduced sponsorship money

+ the reduced season ticket & corporate sales.....aswell as potentially losing a couple of thousand fans.

But what about having to spend extra money on strengthening the side to carry on competing in a league where everyone else will be strengthening. Not to mention having to replace players that will have no doubt done well for the promoted team and be picked off by bigger/better teams. Then if it all goes wrong and the team gets relegated, the club is stuck with high earners and rapidly losing money, making the yo-yoing seem like a better choice, maybe?

"For Liverpool fans this is not welcome news, it is one thing losing Benitez to Juventus but a whole new ball game if they lose him to Man City, with the money City have it will make Liverpool fans very nervous about the club being able to hang on to its best players."

'Players' is a plural term... right?

How does Rafa still have admirers?! Juve, Real, Citeh?

Are they all seeing something I'm not?

Not sure but Liverpool chiefs have told him he is free to talk to Juve & they wont stand in his way - surely that tells you enough!!
