Hello everyone, new member here :D

I think most United-fans, myself included, would rather have taken Owen on a free than Tevez on a free after the latter's constant moaning and disrespectful comments. Of course it's surprising to see United go through the Owen deal but after getting some time to get used to the idea I'm fairly positive about the whole ordeal. As some have mentioned, it's not a gamble at all for United, and a great opportunity for Owen but for clubs with less of a budget for wages and where his fitness would have been crucial it would of course be an entirely different matter.

As for the one mentioning midfield as another place where United need to strengthen, I would disagree. I think there's plenty of good midfield options at the club and if Owen Hargreaves returns to fitness prior to the season it would be like a new signing compared to last season. I also think that we'll revert to a system with more traditional wide-play than we have for the past couple of years which may open up for a player like Anderson to get a more attacking part. I think United will buy no more than one player for the first team squad this summer and if they do it will be a winger.

Man United signed Owen because they are brassic.

They are £700 million+ in debt and have to find £60 million a season just to pay the interest bill.

Owen will be an asset if United can keep him fit. Big if, mind...

alls i was saying how members on here reckon they know more than someone as grand as sir

You're still completely missing the point. For the money Owen would be on with us we'd need him to play at least 30 games a season. Man Utd won't be expecting anywhere near that amount out of him, if he only plays 20 games next season for them they'll still be getting a good deal. His injury record meant we couldn't go for him, whereas Man U can afford to take that risk.

Big Sam said as much when he was asked about Owen. Is he going to be subject of this bizarre anger too?

i know what your on about him playing but its bizarre that hes good enough for utd and not us....

what anger?

He may have been good enough for us, but we need to look at his Wage, can we afford to pay him what United are paying him? No we can't! We need to buy a player who will get us goals and is willing to earn under £50k a week. Micheal Owen does not fit into that catergory. If he was willing to accept £30k-40k a week and we missed out on him then yes it's bizarre, but not in reality it isn't!

Ok back on topic, Owen is a quality player in my eyes but he is not ideally suited to us because of his injury record. I also think that we need either 1. A big front man (Drogbaesque) or 2. A small quick striker (Bellamyesque)

:o That would be huge. No offence though but I can't see it, why would Terry ruin his legend status at Chelsea?

When he selects Owen, Ferguson will set up Manchester Utd to play to Owen's strengths. And he'll set up Owen to take advantage of Man Utd's strengths. There won't be much to do on the latter task IMO. If he stays fit, I think he'll be in the top 5 marksmen in the league, even as a bench player. And he'll be in South Africa this time next year - he's certainly given himself the best opportunity available!! And no more commuting to Newcastle in a helicpopter. I think Owen has played a blinder here.

Much cheaper?!? Diddly squat isn't even comparable to 25 million quid ... and it's far more ethical than paying all that money to an dodgy agent! The best thing that could happen on Tevez is that even Citeh back away from paying Kia Joorabchian for the player and leave them both in limbo.

Fergy has not lost it. Owen is a trifling issue.. a little bit on the side whose signing can only be seen as a win win scenario. If he bombs then nowts lost and in costing little he will not interfere with MU pursuing existing targets. Heindrick Larsen did OK in the short term when he was supposedly finished didn't he? I don't think Owen will break any pots but we'll have to wait and see. My guess is that he'll do OK against lesser teams but be found wanting at gtop level...... as indeed Ronaldo was! ^_^

The down side for Fergy is that MU fans are feeling humiliated, and that he's going to need half a dozen zimmer frames for his squad soon.

I'd be surprised if Terry goes to City, he wants to play at the highest level week in week out and City aren't in Europe next season. Next season i can see them perhaps making the Europa league, but the champions league will be out of their reach IMO. Wrong manager, likely to be too many signings so it will take some time to settle and too many ego/individual not 'team' players.

I think you may be suprised at how well they do. As you say it will take them to gel together but the players they are reportidly bringing in will put them on a par, if not above, arsenal. It's just down to getting the results then, that is the easy bit.....

Like i said i will be surprised if it happens. There's too many factors for me to make a solid prediction that they will make it into the champions league placings. The manager, too many ego's (especially the brazil boys), trying to keep that huge squad happy, foreign players settling into the premier league (if they bring some more in), there's just too many question marks for me.

What's Terry on at Chelsea - £120,000+? Something daft. I don't see what a major difference another £150,000 a week would be? Especially when you're selling out your career.

If Terry goes/has gone it's last big pay day time. He's 29, Chelsea fans are falling out of love with him and he's started to pick up injuries. Question is will he manage to curb his ego because at Chelsea he is very influential apparently in lost of ways whereas at City he may or may not have the ear of the owner. If he does then watch out Mark Hughes if he doesn't like you because your days are even more numbered than they were. If this guy can allegedly get managers hired and fired then you don't stand a chance, unless results are spectacular.

City are already up to £35m transfer fee and £300k a week apparently. If Terry puts in a transfer request, he's gone and Ancelotti not too unhappy about it either.

Good deal for a 29 year old with an iffy back and worse temprament.

Ancelotti will need to find a new CB but with a transfer budget reported of £60m + say £30m left after the vultures have their bites on the Terry deal, he can reasonably take his pick although he'd need to get a move on before Lescott goes to City as well.

Let's say I'm a PROFESSIONAL, already earning an inexplicable amount of money, I don't think I'd sell out for more to play inferior opposition.
