Iceman Posted June 13, 2009 Author Posted June 13, 2009 Nelsen is out injured apparently. Either that, or he is being rested for what i dont know as all the other teams are using their strongest possible squads. Talk about the media, trying to make South Africa look bad. Oh well, they best be trying harder because this will not be the 1st time we have hosted a major sporting event.

Foxxx Posted June 13, 2009 Posted June 13, 2009 Nelsen isn't playing for NZ? Nope, he always gets injured just before it comes time to play for us it seems He got hurt in the 2nd to last game at the end of the season, and got ruled out of this. Hope he is available for our world cup qualifers later this year, we had to call up a domestic defender out of retirement to fill his spot for this.
Iceman Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 1st game today, and im looking forward to it. I see the Beeb are already trying to make us look bad as a host nation. This aint the world cup yet, its just a dress rehersal and to iron out any problems now. Germany had problems as well, when one of their stadiums roof, had a leakage and made one part of the pitch virtually unplayable. Anyway, should be a good game today. SA to hopefully get the 3 points which will be great and a good start. Anything other than a win, and we will probably be out and not reach the semi final.
Iceman Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 Its on the BBC dirty cons. Just check the Beeb website for details

Iceman Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 Nice opening ceremony, simple but very nicely put together. Very much an african flavour to it.
cn174 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I hope they ban all these horns sometime before the World Cup
brfcshabba Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 My word, this football if you can call it that is awful.
Rovers in America Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Has van Heerden been on? It looks like in a google image search that he would be #11. I'm just turning on the game after waking up though.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 SA should be 1-0 up, header into an open goal and cleared off the line accidentally by his own team-mate.

I'm still not 100% convinced that was going into the net or would have dribbled completely across the goal line and past the other post.

rover6 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 My word, this football if you can call it that is awful. International football is generally awful.
Stuart Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Has Van Heerden been injured recently? He only came on for the last couple of minutes. I'm hoping he's coming back to fitness or something, otherwise we've just bought a player not good enough to get into a team that plays like that. Please tell me there is better to come...
Ronin Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 What a crap game! Hopefully the second match is better, although it won't take much!
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Nelsen isn't playing because he's torn a calf muscle. Signing Givet looks a good move now if his calves are as dodgy as his hamstrings.

Stuart Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Van Heerden didn't come on Looks like a BBC correction then. Even worse then - he can't get in a team as bad as that!
Crank Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 are they booing the white player in southafrica? no they not booing him.they chanting his name, which is Mathew Booth. So it sounds like BOOOOO. Very disappointed with SA
Stuart Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Hat trick for Torres in first 15 minutes against NZ. Bet Ryan's pleased not to be playing...
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Hat trick for Torres in first 15 minutes against NZ. Bet Ryan's pleased not to be playing... Torn calf muscle. Wonder how long the recovery time is.
RoversFanUSA Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 I'm also looking forward to watching the yanks play. I'm really looking forward to seeing what kind of progress we've made over the last couple of years and want to see how we do vs some of the best in the world. I think Bradley and torres would be good prospects to watch out for
