roversfan1 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 I know that Warnock and Osman are best mates. I certainly hope Bill Kenwright wasn't here with regards to Stevie. That was my immediate thought especially as they have had a bid for Kyle Naughton of Sheff Utd turned down recently!

RibbleValleyRover Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Teko Modise wants to come to England: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-21444532/ Is he any good Iceman?
Mandrake Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Maybe I haven't been paying much attention, but where is Nicko these days ?
LeChuck Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 That was my immediate thought especially as they have had a bid for Kyle Naughton of Sheff Utd turned down recently! Naughton's a right back and Everton are really poor in that position (Hibbert!). Moyes was saying at the end of last season Baines will be part of England's WC squad so he must rate him at left back. Everton don't have much money so I don't think they'll blow £6m + on backup.
Hughesy Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Maybe I haven't been paying much attention, but where is Nicko these days ? New York Maybe Everton want Derbyshire?
Hughesy Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Mohamed Zidan and Espanyol's Ivan de la Pena linked - although the article then rubbishes both links too!! Goal - as per Setanta
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 With regard to Ivan de la Pena. I thought Sam was trying to bring the squads age down? Would rather we went for younger pacier targets personally.
Iceman Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Teko Modise wants to come to England: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-21444532/ Is he any good Iceman? Good player. Many rate him as a better all round player than Pienaar. Very skillful, free kick specialist, and an attacking midfielder. Can play centrally, just off the strikers, or as a both a left and right winger. He tends to be given a free role.
Hughesy Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 With regard to Ivan de la Pena. I thought Sam was trying to bring the squads age down? Would rather we went for younger pacier targets personally. Like I said - the article dismisses the link - saying its agent trying to boost him up and get clubs interested in him!

Wasn't somesort of a swap deal with Baines and Warnock rumoured in the last close season? New York Maybe Everton want Derbyshire? Maybe Bill is going to dig deep and splash the cash on RSC?
Lathund Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 From what I recall of De la Peña he's very much a Tugay-esque type of player? No idea whether there's any truth in it or if de la Peña is good enough, but Sam wanting a similar player to Tugay as an option would make some sense.
gumboots Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Wasn't somesort of a swap deal with Baines and Warnock rumoured in the last close season? Maybe Bill is going to dig deep and splash the cash on RSC? Why would a chairman come to visit another to discuss a sale or purchase? they do it all over the phone, fax or video conferencing nowadays. Why advertise that you are doing business when you can get it almost sorted under the radar and then announce it when you are good and ready or at least let it leak when you don't mind it getting out. It was far more likely to be 2 pals having a cuppa together since one was in the area or something to do with the league business rather than a player deal.
Guest benmaxwell Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Roque expected to complete £17 million move to Man City in the next 24 hours: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/200...15875-21447084/ (will dance around my place to the tune of 'happy days' if true!!)
Ewood and I Would Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Rovers have held out for the £20m that the centre forward has as a release clause in his contract, but City have so far offered only £15m. But with Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce now accepting that he will lose Santa Cruz, after resisting the sale during the January transfer window, both clubs are prepared to shift to meet in the middle of their valuations. So shouldn’t it be £17.5m then?

Where is all of this coming from? There's not a quote anywhere to be found yet most of the press seem united in the view that he's off today.

Billy Castell Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Zidan might be a good buy, he's a bit like Okocha when he was at PSG I think-flair player with skill who has fallen off the radar off bigger clubs. Have no opinion on Rothen, was good that season Monaco stormed the Champions League, but not much since. So he could go either way. I also hope RSC will finally go for £17m. Up front, and with a vast majority being used for wages and transfers.
Mozzer Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5385795,00.html sean davis set for bolton move-shame really..for a free he could be a pretty useful player..
imy9 Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 RSC- quality player but no use to us on the treatment table. £17 million would be an amazing fee and hopefully we can spend most (I wish) of it on new signings.
JAL Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 SACK THE BOARD??? Are you a dingle, or just the most glass empty kind of guy who supports Rovers?! Did you say Sack the board when we signed Rocky for £3.5m? Or when we signed Samba for 200k?! This isnt Newcastle, this isnt a joke club where we have protests about things we dont like! Cruz and Samba were relative youngsters compared to Rothen, i'm delighted with Di Santo if he signs for a season, but Rothen, come on guys its five years too late.
Hughesy Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Maybe too late yes - but Sack the board?? Bit extreme dont you think?!
JAL Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Maybe too late yes - but Sack the board?? Bit extreme dont you think?! Frustration at what seems to be a potential 'no brainer'.
Eddie Posted June 17, 2009 Posted June 17, 2009 Give it up Eddie, you're a broken record. I've got a friendly wager for you: Last year's central midfielders (Andrews, Dunn, Reid, Emo, Tugay, Villanueva & Grella - Warnock is a defender preferably, so I'm not counting him) accounted for a grand total of 7 goals and 5 assists in Premier League matches last season. If Rothen signs and appears in 29 or more PL matches in 2009/2010 I predict he will match the sum of those numbers himself. That's any combination of goals and assists equal to 12 or more if he appears in 29 or more matches. He doesn't have to start, just appearances. How's £50 sound? This is a challenge to Eddie. No other takers please. I'll take that. I think if he starts a good number of games and plays out wide he'll get a decent number of assists as our side will be better, I'm not really sure why so many of you expect him to be playing a purely central role. I still don't think he will sign though and even if he does I doubt that he'll make 29 appearances. Didnt Eddie say Givet isnt very good? He has proved that to be incorrect so far! I think Givet is good, but simply not great. I think he's a decent premiership defender and that his purple patch when on loan has been somewhat overplayed by the fans as it was compared to the utter dross on show at the back for the first 6 months of the season. I think he is what he is and he'll do a job, but that he isn't worth spending a significant amount of our budget on. Givet and Rothen can't be compared though. Givet is a good and reliable defender. What you see is what you get. Rothen is an inconsistent, slow and uncommitted midfielder.
