What about Reo-Coker from Villa? They seem to be spending more time getting rid of players than bringing them in too at the moment, so much for O'Neil moaning about his small squad, maybe help them lighten the load a bit more!

nicko, i`ll confidently state over your word that rovers will not spend 5m or above on signing 32 yr old kevin davies, and bolton certainly won`t sell him for less. this is a smokescreen for the signing of players elsewhere, probably where sam is right now rather than him being `on holiday`. B) if he really is on holiday i`ll do me nut when we`ve got a down to the bones team left after his letting so many leave, and with time ticking on in the summer market. you have to strike now if you want to get your players in, otherwise they`ll be picked off by others and we`ll be rooting through the car boot sale of players left over.

hi all,

am looking at the situation now if we look Man City now have RSC, Bellamy, Robinho, Sturridge, Caicedo, Evans, Jo, Vassell, Benjani, Bojinov that's 10 strikers on their books. That would tell me at least 5 strikers must leave as they won't be all happy, and possibly Tevez & Eto to come that would make it 12. I would say RSC, Bellers, Robinho, Caicedo & Vassell would be safe. I say Vassell cause I can't think of anyone who would want him, now we know Sturridge will go to Chelski some much dosh are only daft ones to pay his wages. Evans will probably be sold to a championship club,so that leaves Jo, Benjani, Bojinov now I am surprised SA did not take one of those as part of the RSC deal. Now would have been the perfect time to strike Jo would be an excellent signing especially as Everton has diddled about signing him Benjani could be worth a punt experienced good striker scores a lot even Bojinov would be a good shout scores goals but would prefer Jo as he has been excellent on loan at the toffee's these are definitely players we should at least be looking at. Even trying to tie up a deal.

I really like Bojinov and would like him as a loan to buy type of deal next year. He would be pretty good just off a Janko/di Santo/McCarthy type player, can also play right wing as well.

Any news on Emana Nicko??

I really thought we could be in for Caicedo but it seems Sam prefers older players...

Hugo Almeida could adapt well to the Premier league since he is a very phisical player.

I mentioned Pedro Mendes a few years ago and was put down. Maybe now he is old enough to be a Rovers target lol

All the attention is on strikers in this thread now but we all agree central midfield has been a disaster area, we need a right-back (or are we relying on Emerton?) and we are down to 2 centre-backs in Samba/Nelsen or 3 with Givet. However much Sam's given to spend its going to have to go an awefully long way. I can see a load of freebies and over-30's if the Board/owners don't back him.

I said this a while back but what about some from our youth set up? A few clubs have been forced to blood youngsters earlier than expected with decent results so why not us?

The squad has a bit of versatility to it and is supposed to get more so. It'd be a good way of keeping the wage bill down and keeping our powder dry. Now if the right player is available then by all means fire but I get very worried when we buy needs rather than wants.

Pencil in Givet, Nelsen, Samba and Emerton as starters at the back then we have Warnock to cover left back, Givet can slide over to centre back... and we're down to part timers and youth. A starting quality right back would be great or if not someone who can cover that and preferably centre back would be good. Apart from that I'd rather have a youth player or Andrews or Reid or whoever covering when needed, hopefully never. Khizanishvili only appeared in five league games so it can't be that pressing. Why waste our limited resources on bench players when the chances are that anyone cheap and willing to ride the bench probably won't be all that good anyway?

I'm afraid you are being contradictory here Nicko. At no stage will "keeping the ball" be part of our strategy under an Allardyce regime - with the possible exception of running down the clock at corner flags after "playing the ball into space" (i.e. hoofing it aimlessly as far up the pitch as possible). "Passers" have no role to play in our team. And no - before the inevitable, insane "DON'T-THINK-JUST-SUPPORT-THE-TEAM" brigade light up their torches - I'm not suggesting that we have to play football like Barcelona, Arsenal, or even West Brom - but we've GOT to demand better than the dross we'll be getting.

Recall the sight of Kevin Keegan on the touchline during his first game back at Newcastle frantically trying to get his players to keep the ball on the ground. A tragic visual representation of the poison Allardyce is responsible for injecting into clubs. He peddles a despicable, sickening, ill-spirited, brand of anti-football - a sickness that takes years to recover from. And - here's the thing - he seems to revel in this "style", to the extent he (still) openly states to all who would listen that he "should have gotten the England job". (Without question one of the most arrogant things I've ever seen.)

I cannot believe what has happened to our club. It's nothing short of shameful.

And I'm not sad about it - I'm f****** angry.

Really? Well you'd better build up a huge steel conglomorate so that you can sell the job lot for way over the market value and sink your ill gottens into BRFC till the day you die spencey. Until that happens just be be grateful that you are able to support a small town club in the Prem.

I don't fancy Owen at this stage in his career. He's had too many injuries and his pace isn't what it was. We may as well have kept Derbyshire if we're going to play with a goal poacher.

i understand what your saying but owen is far better than matty... owen would be great if we could keep him fit...

Our youth setup might seem great, but im convinced that there is hardly going to be much attention given to them at this stage. Treacy has been a disappointment, and i can maybe see Judge and Gunning doing well to push for a place on the bench. I agree that our youth policy aint the best, but right now its too risky. If we start the season off well, and comfortable of avoiding the drop then maybe we can give a few of the youngsters a go.

This morning's Lancashire Telegraph reports that Sam will have £13 million from the RSC and Derbyshire sales, he is going to use this to sign 2 players.

That is quite a bit of money. I thought he might be given less, far less than that. 2 players only? I assume 1 is a striker, and maybe a midfielder with Di Santo in on loan. Emerton will probably move to right back, unless Sam picks up Seiterides or Civelli, and moves Emo into midfield.

If 13 million is going to be splashed on Davies, Rothen and one more Id be disappointed.

13 million is a fair amount that is raised from the approximately 15-18 million net that we have received from the two sales. I hope its used wisely to address a couple of key players and supplemented by one or two loans like Di Santo, or freebies.

I wouldn't think so. It will be after the signing of Givet.

Considering Rocky gets a chunk and Bayern got 20% we haven't come out that well for it. No wonder we were holding out for the real high end.

Where does it say that? 20% is a huge amount given away!

Too much money - daft agent.

He was left out of the Betis team as they went down...one to watch but with caution.

Nicko: Are we interested in Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt? Two really good Reading players!

I've not heard that and I hope it remains that way. Those two had big reps off one good season at Reading. They went missing when they went down and were out of the side in the Championship run-in.

You buy Championship players....you know where you end up.
