Majiball Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Well they did it the hard way but I guess practicing those pen's made a difference.

Lathund Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 I gave up at half time. Then watched the last part of the second half and the extra time and was actually hopeful, as we had several chances and half-chances there to put the game away. But once it got to penalties I knew we were losing. Sure, England are bad at penalties historically. And Sweden did win on penalties... in 1994. But in our last penalty shootout we lost to HOLLAND. The one nation worse at penalties than England. I'm very happy with the tournament overall though, and some of our youngsters such as Berg, Toivonen, Wernbloom, Bajrami (The last two missing todays game. They had, apart frmo Berg, been our two best players) and Svensson showed real class. I think we'll miss the WC in 2010, which should give us the chance to move towards this new generation without risking anything. Berg was btw the first player to ever score a hattrick in this tournament, and his 7 goals crushed the previous record of 4. Someone will undoubtedly mention Rigters now, but anyone who can't see the difference isn't worth the time it takes to write a reply...
super_arran Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 whose number 14 for sweden? he had a crackin game, proper strong and skillful (insert "i'd love him at rovers" comments here)
andyman Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 berg didnt score a hatrick today, toivenen or whatever his name was got the other one!
Lathund Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Guillermo Molins, plays for Malmö FF. My MFF-supporting friend raves about him, but I've barely seen him play so can't say much about him. berg didnt score a hatrick today, toivenen or whatever his name was got the other one! He did score a hattrick against Belarus, which is what I was refering to. Almost got a hattrick today though, with that looping header which beat Hart but came back off the bar. Which btw was a brilliant header, again showing his versatility. Can score all kinds of goals, right-footed, left-footed or with his head.
Al Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Only looked at this thread because I thought that Under 21 Euros was what we had offered for Kevin Davies.
andyman Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 ok sorry lathund, i didnt watch the sweden - belarus game
cn174 Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 I saw him in the Sweden Belarus game, his finishing (except for penalties it seems!) is very good and natural. On Sky before they were saying that Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea were all looking at him. I don't know if he is that good but he would certainly be a good buy for someone in the Premiership.
Billy Castell Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 They used to do sledging in cricket but that's seemed to have stopped in recent years mainly due to them having the microphones by the wickets. Sledging is talking trash and trying to put the opposition player off by doing anything bar physical contact. Unfortunately for Hart, he received his 2nd yellow card of the tournament and now misses the final along with Campbell and Aggy. An example of sledging: Glenn McGrath: Hey batsman you are a right fat b_____d. Zimbabwean batsman: That's because every tim I f___ your mum she gives me a biscuit.
rover6 Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 This England U21 team is not - by far - the strongest we've had. Remember Crouch and Defoe up front, David Dunn near his best form...etc. The strength of the English U21 squad depth is in decline and this tournament is only papering over the cracks of a misguided approach over here. HOWEVER, full credit to Pearce and his team. For once, an England manager has gone into a youth international tourney seriously - professionally. None of this, "we're here to learn" bull. We're here to win and play well. Good on Pearce.

Backroom Tom Posted June 27, 2009 Backroom Posted June 27, 2009 Joe Harts a prick to be honest, I've seen him do that many times on penalties, so funny that he now misses the final because of it. It just makes him look ridiculous
incy wincy little spider Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Looking forward to the game tonight. Hopefully those stupid yellow cards wont count after 90mins. Also hoping we win/don't lose on pens as im living in a house full of germans... Going for 3-2 to England. Walcott, Richards and rodwell if hes playing.
ABBEY Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 good luck lads!!!.beer in fridge .gf upstairs speakers on happy days
The Rover of Finland Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Why did Pearce pick only 2 strikers? Now that they are both suspended..
philipl Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Germany have been so much better it isn't even funny. Pearce is dismally poor.
ABBEY Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 woeful...and as for the goalie on the 2nd ...dear o h dear.
brian_gallagher85 Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Playing Walcott up front as the lone striker - the man's a tactical genius!
RibbleValleyRover Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Looks like Germany will be a major force in world football again, some fantastic young players coming through. Marin, Ozil, Wagner to name but a few.
cn174 Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Well, I managed to not read or listen to the result and watched the game on Sky+ just now. Shouldn't have bothered! Despite having 67% of the possession England did very little with it. I know we didn't have much option but to play with Walcott up front, but maybe if we'd have taken more than two strikers in the first place it would've worked out better. Also the keeper was pretty shocking. It is quite sad to see that our new generation of players are lacking in the striker and goalie department just like the current team. Germany have a good few players there, in the commentary they said that the German FA were fighting to keep hold of some of them from 'transferring' back to their other country. We should have a see if any of them are half English and try and claim them!
