John Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Have I missed something, Kean said the new contract is pretty much agreed and due to be signed very soon?

LeChuck Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 so, he was xlose to signing a new deal in the summer, but its now just 3 months until he can sign a pre contract with another club? Only foreign clubs, but it's possible he might fancy a move back to Germany.
RibbleValleyRover Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Have I missed something, Kean said the new contract is pretty much agreed and due to be signed very soon? That was weeks ago...
PLJPB Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Last night on Sky. His answer last night on Sky was in response to a fan's question as to why he had still not signed when Kean had said he would sign 'within 24 hours' 3 weeks ago. He also said that his dad would be c oming over again this week to get it sorted. It seems that whenever he is asked the question now Kean's stock answer is 'within 24 hours'.
den Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I would never have taken you to be cynical Den Only occassionally. Usually it's when people get mixed up with me and des - who posts on here sometimes!
Mattyblue Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 The 'length and salary of the contract are all agreed' yet, no signature to finish it off...
Wimbledon Rover Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I'm afraid SK is being ultra-naive here, Hoilett won't sign, he's too close to term now. The reality is that base salary is the simplest part of the contract. What's more controversial will be things like "Size of bid to leave", which rovers are fairly powerless to negotiate. Hoilett will either drag it out to Christmas, or his "Size of bid to leave", will be so low, it'll be as bad as him leaving on a free. For me, it's one of SK's defining moments!
brian_gallagher85 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 It seems that whenever he is asked the question now Kean's stock answer is 'within 24 hours'. Someone should ask him when he's going to get the sack then asap!
PLJPB Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 In the new spirit of positivity towards Mr Kean now that I realise that 98% of the fans are absolutely delighted with him and I must be wrong in being unhappy with him, I will put another point of view to Keans promises regarding the contract signing. He has known since January that Junior will not sign but has wanted to make sure that the fans don't get on his back and has therefore been telling a few porkies to protect him.
True Blue & White Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 he holds all the aces right now. I'm afraid SK is being ultra-naive here, Hoilett won't sign, he's too close to term now. The reality is that base salary is the simplest part of the contract. What's more controversial will be things like "Size of bid to leave", which rovers are fairly powerless to negotiate. Hoilett doesn't hold all the Aces here. Presuming we've offered him a pay rise (let's say £10 grand p/w rise for example) Hoilett is losing £10k a week whilst he doesn't sign. There will come a point (if he doesn't sign at all this season) where he's lost more in earnings than he could hope to recoup via a signing on fee. Also, the security of a contract works two ways it provides us the abilty to command a fee for a transfer but ALSO ensure the player a guaranteed wage no matter how good he is playing or even if he's not playing at all. Imagine if Hoilett was to break his leg near the end of the seaon, he'd be screwed financially with his deal running out.

I don't think Kean himself is handling the fine print in the contracts, but he did fly over to Canada to convince Hoilett's dad that we are the best choice for his son. What more do you expect him to do? If he is being given assurances that Junior will sign, should he not believe that to be true? People forget that Junior signed a short deal the last time because he wasn't given enough playing time under Big Sam. It took time to get him to sign then, as it does now - and back then Kean wasn't even our manager.
braddock Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I'll be amazed and happy at the same time if he signs a new deal but it's not looking good. Got to question why we didn't offer him a new contract until several months after the season ended. He's good enough to play for a top 6 or even a top four team, it wouldn't surprise me if his agent (his dad as far as I know) has had some contact from a number of clubs. That would be because if we'd got relegated there would have been a relegation fee release in the clause which he'd have requested and his wages would have been too high for the Championship. If we went down he'd be gone anyway, so no reason to shoot ourselves in the foot by throwing money at him.

Stuart Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Here's a thought. If he is determined not to sign a new contract but leave on a free, do we... a.) phase him out of the first team, this season, and use him as a sub only, bringing through someone like Simon on the right? b.) keep him in the first XI, squeezing every last drop of "avoid-relegation-juice" out of him, and worry about next season when it happens?

Won't happen due to age.

chaddyrovers Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Nicko Daily Mirror article on Hoilett new contract and what is holding it up Hoilett wants buyout clause in new Blackburn deal Read more: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Blackburn-forward-Junior-Hoilett-wants-a-buyout-clause-included-in-his-new-35k-a-week-contract-article801767.html#ixzz1YRBnoQ1M
Baz Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Nicko Daily Mirror article on Hoilett new contract and what is holding it up Hoilett wants buyout clause in new Blackburn deal Read more: http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/transfer-news/Blackburn-forward-Junior-Hoilett-wants-a-buyout-clause-included-in-his-new-35k-a-week-contract-article801767.html#ixzz1YRBnoQ1M So a little bit more than "minor" details? He wants a release clause at £15m, tell him he can have one at £30m. His market fee at the moment must be close to £15m, so heaven knows what it will be in 2-3 years - £15m at that stage will be a joke, like Jones' was. Ultimately though he'll get what he wants because he's in the driving seat big-time on this.
joey_big_nose Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 15 million is better than nothing but I wonder if he would take 40k and a 22m release clause? Hum - an extra 5k week works out as about 250k a year. Seems like it would make financial sense to pay a little more salary? If he continues as he is going someone will outlay 15m in the not too distant future. 22m might mean we could hold onto him for a couple of years.... ps. Anyhoo I will delighted if he signs, 15m clause or not!
Silencio Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 I think we have to give it him but it will need to be at least 18 million. I think if you are getting 18 million for non CL league players and getting a few seasons out of them then you have to accept the situation. If we put it at 18-20 million I think we could still get another season or possibly two out of it. Best scenario would be to give him a bit more money and put the buyout at 22 million.
