Baz Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 That opinuion is difficult for me to comprehend. One can hire a hod carrier much cheaper than a bricklayer remember. I think Allardyce made him sub so often cos he was trying to add discipline to his game and turn him into a more complete player. Players with talent like Hoilett are rare. He has skill vision and power, defenders are sh1tscared of him running at them and he has been involved in one way or another with most of the goals we have scored since and including last spring. If his strength is in cracking through defences rather than defending.... and it is... then the team must be set up to accomodate his talents. imo that means not playing too many players of similar ilk. Playing Hoilett and any other two from Rochina, Vukevic, Formica in the same team in the Prem is naive in the extreme and to do so away from home is suicidal. imo Hoilett must be given a free role to play right across the front of midfield and in support of a loan striker. The 4 in midfield need to take on his defensive duties and behind them Dann needs to get closer and protect Givet in the way Samba helps out Salgado. Olsson is a must imo given that he is defender, flying winger and eager runner. The two in centre mid must be permed from our growlers N'Zonzi, Petrovic and Grella and the man on the right is Emerton..... Oh wait baldybollocks gave him away didn't he? The Carlos Kickaball brigade are talented without a doubt, are probably expensive in wages, will have been used to swindle millions out of the owners BUT until 12 or 13 players are allowed in a football team they need to be kept for 2nd half substitutions and Carling Cup games. Pretty much bang on there I reckon. The only reservation being is if he becomes more of a marked man by playing the more central role. He's definitely got the talent to do so though.

This is why the top teams are so far ahead of everyone else: their flair player are willing to bust a gut tracking back. It's a team game after all. If Hoilett isn't willing to do that then you either bench him or stop playing him on the wing.
thenodrog Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 £15m would be a decent fee for him. It would be great to see the figure closer to £20m, but in all honesty if we were offered £15m for him in January we would probably accept anyway, so there's no point in risking losing him on a free for a fee that is entirely acceptable for a player who is very talented but still has a way to go before the top clubs are seriously interested. Notwithstanding rules on young players 15m for a player who is out of contract inside 4 months is a very hefty amount.

Let the top teams worry about that when he plays for them, it would be crazy for a team of our size to bench it's best player because he didn't work hard enough. We need to organise and get more work from Nzonzi/Petrovic and replace Formica with Olssen so that we can accomodate Hoillet. Robbo Lowe Samba Dann Givet Petro Nzonzi Rochina Hoillet Olssen Yakubu Would see us ok provided Kean actually does some work on organising the back six. Olssen would give Givet the coover he needs.

Totally agree- that's our best team. Vulnerable at full back and unconvincing in defensive midfield, it should however offer quite a lot going forward and have the abitlity to counter attack well. Vukcevic and fomrica will be looking to get in there somewhere but it is hard to see how they will. Maybe Vukcevic could do a shift in a deeper role?
Eddie Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Notwithstanding rules on young players 15m for a player who is out of contract inside 4 months is a very hefty amount. I was not really factoring in his contract situation, more of a pure value estimation.
Neil Weaver Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I can't see beyond him being off in Jan (with some mealy mouthed words from Kean about how we couldn't match his ambition - no Steve, it's for the money) or summer at the latest. In many ways a great shame given the talent he's currently showing, but on the plus side (I'm taking lessons from Kean) we do have lots of folk who can play a similar role : Vukcevic, Rochina, Formica. And we struggle to shoehorn em into the side. So while I accept he's probably our best and most consistent player at the moment, there is a school of thought that we might be better to take the money and run. By the way, if Rochina can be taught to release others at the right time and not just hog the ball, I might be tempted to say he could be one hell of a player. Oh yes, almost forgot, his dead ball delivery needs a bit of work too (can't be too optimistic on this board can I).
Eddie Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 This clearly isn't about the money, it is all about our reluctance to include a release clause. I am sure that everyone will point the finger at Kean and the owners or at the greed of Hoilett, but it is pretty clear from all of the reports that this is simply down to the minimum fee release clause and I hope that the club are not so short-sighted that they will risk losing him for next to nothing because of a fear for losing him for less than his true value in a year or two.
LeChuck Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Totally agree- that's our best team. If Dunn is fit then he's miles better than Petrovic at the moment. Even though that holding role isn't natural to him, he was performing very well there against Fulham. I'd be tempted to move Olsson back instead of Givet and put Vukcevic in midfield once Simon is up to speed.
chris Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 So Holliet wants a get out clause and this has not been agreed delaying the contract, this is what is holding up the contract, obviously Holliet wants it as low as possible and visa versa.

perthblue02 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Hang on Steve Kean texted sky sports news on transfer deadline evening saying Hoilett had signed a new contract, surely he wouldn't fantasise the truth would he?
Ricky Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 No he didn't Perth. he said he's agreed to it in principle.
perthblue02 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 No he didn't Perth. he said he's agreed to it in principle. Thanks, stand corrected, but still doesn't alter the fact that it was not seen as a priority in the last couple of months of last season

I'd be tempted to move Olsson back instead of Givet and put Vukcevic in midfield once Simon is up to speed. Petrovic will be ok in a few games time in my opinion. We know Dunn will continue to get overrun. The best case scenario would be to get a good solid experienced sitter in there with Nzonzi but I can't see one in the squad as we can't rely on Grella. The players are ok but Kean needs to get some work done on how we track runners from midfield and how to protect Givet.
Veevs Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Personally getting the feeling Jnr is both seeing how this season pans out and seeing if anyone comes knocking in January.. if they do then that contact could see a mighty little hike in cost or he could just up sticks.
tony gale's mic Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Thanks, stand corrected, but still doesn't alter the fact that it was not seen as a priority in the last couple of months of last season Yep, Kean said himself that it was his decision to wait until the summer to negotiate Hoilett's contract so as not to "distract him" or something equally ludicrous. Well fat lot of good thats done.
chaddyrovers Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Blackburn want to put a stunning £18 million price tag in Junior Hoilett's contract - Exclusive http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/football-hotline/2011/09/24/blackburn-want-to-put-a-stunning-18-million-price-tag-in-junior-hoilett-s-contract-exclusive-102039-23443191/
67splitscreen Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I wonder who else it will benefit financially from getting him to agree a clause of 18m, maybe the same who got a nice big fat wedge for PJ's contract clause allegedly.
Billy Castell Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Get shot of the little git for as much as possible. I am sick of this greedy little twerp constantly messing about with the contract negotiations. Same goes for Samba. We don't need rubber dingy men in our situation no matter what supposed talent they have. We made him, we patiently waited for the visa stuff to sort itself out and now he and his dad are taking us for a ride.
Exiled_Rover Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 They're all rubber dingy men. Get him signed with that £15m clause and scout possible replacements as soon as possible. Can't afford to lose him on a free.
cn_barlow Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 All those having a go at Junior...Would you sign a new deal at rovers right now if your were him? I bloody wouldn't!
chris Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 All those having a go at Junior...Would you sign a new deal at rovers right now if your were him? I bloody wouldn't! I wouldn't if I was him. Here's got a bright future and its not here. Career players are far more wealthy and successful then fan players.

Can't afford to lose him on a free. Indeed. We lost Billy Jones like that and it hurt (though if he'd have had time left on his contract, any cash from his sale would've gone straight into Hemmings sky rocket). Hoilett is special and is worth 15 million easily.
adsfortheblues Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 I've never understood the theory behind people saying hoillett is "special" has he ever won us a game single handedly, not that u can recall, the lad is a good player but he isn't "special"
