The statistic that caught my eye was that only Stoke completed fewer passes than us in the pl this season...so much for pretty passing football.

The got over 50% possession for the first time in a pl game this season. How long they been in prem 3 years?

Hoilett has us over a barrel. Deal should have been thrashed out 12 months ago but for whatever reason it wasn't. £15 million is a fair amount of money, much better than the £2 mil or so comp we'd get if he leaves.

At the moment he'd be attractive to other clubs as he's potentially reasonably priced if they bid at Xmas. He'd need another couple of good seasons before people will pay £15 mil IMO.

Just agree the deal and sign him up. A year into the contract, if he fulfils his potential, try and thrash out another deal with higher clause.

We're going to be relegated this year so makes no sense for him to sign up,

At this moment in time that is looking very likely.

Looks like the decision to only offer him a new deal until several months after the season ended is going to bite us on the behind. What was it Kean said during the season when Hoilett was playing well? Something like "Well we know Hoilett only has a year left on his contract but he is playing so well right now we don't want to disrupt his form by giving him a new deal". Amateur comments from an amateur manager.

I don't think he will sign a new deal, not with Kean as manager.

I think you can take those quotes as being we want him to sign, but he wont, rather than what Kean actually said - tbh what else could Kean say? - "sorry he wont sign a new deal" - would hardly have helped anything given our position and any chances of him re-signing.

Hoilett knows the longer this goes on the stronger his negotiating position gets. If he hasnt already been tapped up (and I really mean if), and is willing to sign with a £15m release clause then we should admit defeat (I already value him in the price bracket) and move on. If he also wants a relegation clause, then agree that too at slightly under the £15m, because we would need to sell him and Samba if we went down.

He could have just said nothing. Would have been better for everyone - I'm sure a text from Kean to Sky Sports News hasn't made a huge impact on Hoilett's decision.

signed a deal in principle then Kean? Who blames him if true? Desert the sinking ship. Its ok though as our squad is worth more than last year so we'll be ok. Kean is a talented manager so he'll be able to talk him around especially with the promise of results to improve just like that. Its breaking my heart all this.

I totally do not blame Hoilett for not signing with Kean in charge.

Hoilett can see we are heading for the Championship for sure under Kean.

I think the only way he will stay if we get a quality manager in Like Hughes or O'Neill or Rafa in.

If he does not sign a new contract, I can see him playing for a Cheslea or Liverpool for sure.

Our squad could be devoid of all quality by the end of January. :(

Not much left anyway - Robinson, Samba, Givet and Dann (sometimes) - and that's about your lot. The last 2 transfer windows have been a disaster in terms of bringing in better quality players and the first team is actually weaker than at the end of last season. Hoilett isn't daft - he can see which way the club is going under the present management.

Under any other circumstances I would be furious given the time we've invested in him and the support we've offered. But given what's happening at our club you can't help but think 'fair play'. If we've refused to give him a new deal because we won't put in a minimum fee release clause then we've just pi55ed fifteen million up the wall.
