Pinch you're in Canada why have I not seen anything of Junior with the Canadian National team? I mean he should be able to find a spot with them right?

If I can jump in here...basically Junior is in the same situation as Hargreaves was...born in Canada but eligible to play for another country due to his parents. In his case it is Jamaica. As far as I understand it, there have been numerous invites to join the various levels of Canadian national teams and so far he has declined. His brother actually has played several games for Canada...I believe at the U-17 level.

Among the few followers of the Canadian National team there is hope that Junior will commit. Unfortunately we seem to be unable to "keep" our best players. Jonathan de Guzman has committed to Holland and Asmir Begovic has just switched allegiance to Bosnia....anyway, enough ranting about the Canadian National Team.

Yep, it's true. I've been told that Junior was a very promising talent from a young age. Apparently he was playing above his age level as a youth and attended trials for a provincial rep. side (Ontario U-14) as a 12 year old. Junior was controversially cut from this team, allegedly due to his young age / to make room for older players to make the squad. I'm not sure if this was before or after Rovers had signed him. At any rate, his father has been said to hold a grudge against the Canadian system for this supposed slight, although, as mentioned above, his younger brother Jainiel represented Canada as recently as this year. It is interesting to note that his brother is playing this year for FSV Mainz 05's U-19 team, but I think he may also be Rover's books. I'd heard (after Unleaded posted that German article) that Mainz actually wanted to sign both of them.

Junior has turned down call-ups from both Jamaica (his father's birth country) and Canada. I believe the family's official line is that David Jr. is focusing on his professional career and is still undecided as to where he will play his international football.

Sorry, I never got to that last bit, but he would be a gift from heaven if he suited up for any action in the CONCACAF region, unfortunately playing for Canada is not a very appealing proposition ...although Jamaica is no bowl of cherries either...who knows (players these days), he might be dreaming of representing Germany or England ;) , but I'll try not to put the horse before the wagon, ala Dunny comparing him to Defoe.

Canada could put together a decent side if there FA got its act together... there is no reason why they shouldn't be consistantly in the top four in concacaf, and eventually they should be #3 by themselves ahead of CR.

The CSA is a nightmare; they are under-funded, over-bureaucratic, and appear to have little appreciation for the sacrifice that European-based players have to make to even show up for a match in North America. They have had issues ranging from not properly insuring players while representing Canada, to putting our players up in sub-standard hotels while on national team duty. But as you said, if they ever get their act together Canada should eclipse the Costa Ricas and El Salvadors of the region.

Back page of todays LT

Rovers in talks with Junior over new deal. JW confirmed discussions have started and that they hope to tie him to a new deal after an impressive start.

Ahh! Sounds good - I haven't seen him play yet but the reports on here are very encouraging. I have high hopes for the lad.

I agree.

4-4-2 against Villa

-------------------Robbo-----------------

Jacobsen--Samba--Givet--Chimbonda

------------------Grella-------------------

Diouf------------Dunn--------Hoilett-----

-------------Kalinic --- Benni-------------

IMO the changes need to be more radical but trying it at Forest first.

I'm not happy with Chimbo at left at back, right footed is a disadvantage in most situations, however we are limited in options.

Diouf seems to bring the play to a standstill at times, (lack of pace) targets up front could however be a cause for him turning back on himself when the defenders close him down. probably worth another couple of games in 4-4-2.

Grella has done very little in the last two games, maybe N'zonzi should be in for him, he certainly offers more from set plays both attack and defensively

......................N'Zonzi

Diouf/Emerton...Dunne/Reid......Hoilett

I doubt Dunn has the legs for 90 min in a central role, we do lose his creativity if left out which we may well struggle without.

The major change has to be the system. Hoilett deserves his chance, either side for me will do just give him a run.

not wishing to take this off topic but does anyone else think Hoilett is holding up the MGP contract, it seems to be dragging on, I have though that if Hoilett keeps progressing up until say Christmas then perhaps MGP's contract will not be renewed or if it is on reduced terms, which i doubt he will accept anyway.

I think Peds has had his day and is living off two seasons ago. I know some fans argue he works hard down the line, but there's little incisiveness as a wide-player and his late runs into the box are nonexistent. I think it would be better for all concerned to give him a fresh start elsewhere and nurture Hoilett's abilities.

I agree with that, i hope this is his last season at the club.

Time to give young junior a proper run in the side, he is still very much at the learning stage of his career but from his performances so far he is willing to attack the opposition defenders and try to create something.

Pedersen has been one of the brighter players so far this season for me but thats not saying much.

Hoilett however is the one good thing about the season so far, he really does look like with time and the right development he could be a real player.

At one stage I almost considered it could be a good thing if we went down and then started again with the likes of Hoilett, N'zonzi, Doran, Kalinic and Blackman, almost reminiscent of the Dunn, Duff and Jansen times. No doubt if we did go down we'd sell our young talents and sign journeymen though.

I agree, Pedersen may have his downsides but he has improved this season. I feel that if he was taken off of free kick and corner duties peoples opinion of him would not be as bad. He has been a loyal player to us, we should all give him the same loyalty that he has shown us.

There is no doubt that he is going to be, the lad has some belief in his own ability and he and Diouf were the bright sparks yesterday.

There is no need, we have the required journeymen on the books already.

Nowadays 'loyalty' means you're without a suitor. ;)

But how many clubs have actually bid for him?

By that logic how many have not?

I believe that Sir Alex, grand pooba, wanted him and he chose us over them. He has been known to be a good judge of talent. There are clubs galore that want left footed wingers.

I am not saying that Pedersen is a world beater, all I am saying is that he is not the worst player that we have. If we had a striker worth the blue and white halves we would have scored from more of his crosses. A crap striker does not only make himself look bad, it makes the wings and attacking midfield look like crap as well.

It's hard to dispute MGP has not improved this season but lets face it that wasn't hard.

His defensive qualities are not what is needed with the current FB's they hardly get passed the half way line. I do agree that he does a lot of covering and covers a tremendous amount of ground but is it productive.

He has never been great at getting passed a defender, he made space for crosses and came in on the back post also occupying space on the outside of the box where some good goals have come from.

Hoilett is a different type of player, direct, pacey, tricky, young and hungry, he may lack in the defensive roles that wide MF's are now required to do. He is by no way the finished article, neither was MGP when we brought him to Ewood, it wasn't until he got the run of games that we saw his true potential and soon showed us what he had in his locker.

Hoilett maybe 12 months away as regular starter then again he may thrive on the challenge and progress quickly and surpass MGP, that is why I think there may be reservations on MGP's contract and delaying it for as long as possible.

On a downside less than 12 months (??? not sure if it is June or Jan when up) left on his current deal may mean we sell at half of what some may value him at.

Well your entire point was we should reward loyalty, but for our club the loyal players are usually the undesirables. If we have any genuine talent it's usually ousted once clubs show a genuine interest - Duff, Bentley, Santa Cruz, Warnock. I'm certain if a bigger club actually made a serious move for Pedersen, he wouldn't be around for long.

That was when he was first making it on the scene. I doubt Sir Alex would give him a second look now.

Pedersen isn't our worst player, but that isn't exactly a compliment. I haven't seen him perform his job as a winger effectively for awhile now; and his throw-ins and set-pieces provide little compensation for that either. Time for us to move on.

I meant that he is a player that doesn't winge, he does what is asked and tries. I don't doubt that he would run off but when Spurs were sniffing two seasons ago (and others) he didn't say a word, unlike the ones that you mentioned. He did not make noise for a move that was quite possible.

That was when he was first making it on the scene. I doubt Sir Alex would give him a second look now.

Based on recent performances I would agree, but it still stands that he came here instead.

We should be slating the players that don't seem to give the effort. Someone mentioned that he is a confidence player and that is so very true, he is very down right now and that is a fact. He is very unhappy with the fans reactions to him. I think if we played a better two in midfield than Andrews and Grella his game would benefit.
