God knows why your making Alan a scapegoat in all of this, he gives us news - whether it be what you want to hear or not, and keeps it interesting in these boring few months without football.

I'm not making him a scapegoat. I'm questioning his opinion and his motives.

And I'm still waiting for his reply!

I wouldn't worry about the manager's bottle.

i have heard he likes a good drink!!, No serisouly, if sam thinks he is ideal replacement for Roque then i will stand by him, but i was hoping we were looking at other better alternatives then Davies!

I'm with you Al. Why else would a self confessed Burnley fan post "inside info" on here?

It makes no sense.

People seem to lap it up though.

Well its obviously bothering you a lot isnt it.

I know for a fact the information he comes out with is very very good

I can't keep up with this - I think the same rule applies here as it did last summer;

Trust the manager, if it doesn't work out someone else will be around to give it a try - it's got to be hard as it's a safe bet to go with what you know....

Although it is a fair point to say there's a bit of money around the place and most of us would be impressed with marquee signings, but are we that sort of club and would they even come? (And is Sam that kind of manager/play a system that accommodates stars?)

I think Newcastle aside Sam has had a good record in the league(s), and who wants to watch Brazilian style football in the championship?

That said what would Davies cost? 6m? On what? 35k wages? Isn't that about 7m over three years?

We could have Owen on 75k for three years for less than half that - although for we discussed reasons we won't.

Lost the point of this a way back, but it's confusing being a manager, then you have to follow your own instincts - how many people would be unhappy if we did buy Davies and wound up in the top ten at the end of next season?

I'll stick to fixing pcs methinks....

aren't we cynical. He's been posting info on here for a long time with most of it being accurate, which would make this one of the most elaborate wind ups ever. In which case fair play to him. But I suspect you don't really think that

I have no complaints with Mr Nixon giving us information. I don't even have complaints about the information, even when, as here, I don't like it. However, I do have a problem with the fact that we now have 40 odd pages devoted to many of us saying it's a bad idea and his saying it's a good one. In the end the people whose opinions matter would appear to want Davies; many of us don't but look like we are going to be stuck with him. And that's it.

If you get Davies you will still be in the Premier League in two or three years time...

Doesn't answer the question. Don't agree. Will not last 3 years. Still waiting. Where will the replacement come from?

I think the point is that you have complained in the past about people bringing up your profession as a stick to beat you when the fact is you quit often bring it up yourself. Its either relevant or it isn't. I personally think it's great we have "friends" in the media because we get enough unwarranted stick from the others. My question to you would be do you pass on all these suggestions to the club or are they just posted on here?

Like i said. I will bring up information when it's relevent. I just don't expect people to start talking about my job.

I mean you don't ask Nicko about the specifics of his job every day do you?

Never trust anyone who claims something as fact without any proof.

Two things can happen now:

1. We sign him (well done Nicko)

2. We "fail" to sign him and the manager is undermined, people believe he was our main target and lose confidence in Sam

not a bad return on either scenario for a Burnley fan

In three years time? Are you serious?

You missed out on '3 - he gets so upset with all of these horrible Rovers fans and signs for the Great Man instead.'

Sh!t, I've been rumbled.

It's a valid point from Al.

over the last 3 years we have been dependent on Bentley's, Cruz's and Bellamy's transfer money to bring in new players. Ie, sell-on...

If we spend that money on old replacements, and when it comes time to replace them, where will the money come from..? Or are we going to spend our future dependent on freebies and loans.

We don't have the luxury of fancy money from owners. We literally rely on selling players for a profit or decent fee. Something we wont get either of with Davies.

No, it's not.

There isn't an ideal striker, young, cheap and full of goals with a big bushy tail, who is going to come along and score goals and be sold for fortunes in a year or two so that we can all live happily ever after.

You are a mid-table side with a few bob suddenly in your pocket. You have a manager who likes to play strong strikers in his side and likes one of his old favourites.

That's the reality. Three year's down the line? That will have to look after itself.

I think Sam signed ONE player with a potential sell-on value at Bolton and that was a mistake...Michael Ricketts.

He bought Anelka for £9 million plus £60,000-a-week wages because he pounced when the time was right. The club made a big profit. Well done.

There isn't an Anelka out there.

Why all the bickering ?

Nicko gives us information about targets, I can not think of any other club who gets information on a messageboard like this.

We all want news on who we want to sign, and we all want different players, we must let Sam decide what is best.

Its not our decision.

You are currently posting over 50 times every day. Yet to see any information - much less anything relevant.

Job?! Not for long at this rate ... :!:

Specifics of your job? I've never asked anyone about the specifics of their job. Most people on here I have no clue about their jobs. There are 3 members I do know about and that is because they have posted it. You are one of them. I do believe plenty of people have asked nicko specifics about his job but I don't know the answer. Suspect we need to wait for the memoirs

Davies does not score tons of goals though. His season average is about 5-6 goals a season.

You keep going on about one season wonders. Davies had one season where he scored 11 goals, and you think we should fork out £6 plus million for him...

It just does not add up.

I would rather we signed a young striker who scores 6-10 goals, then a old striker who might score 6-10 goals. That's what it comes down too.

Tugay had no resale value as it turned out. What a waste of money he was.

A) £1.3 million not £6 million plus!

B ) Unkle Jack was still alive so we still had money coming in!

If the Russian guy is that good why has nobody bought him?

Just a thought.

This is truly a rubbish argument.

If Zidane was that good, why did he stay at Bordeaux until he was 24? If Cantona was that good, why did no-one try to take him from France until he was 25? If Maradona was that good why did he play in that Mickey Mouse Argentinean league?

I know you're not really dumb enough to consider this a valid argument Nicko; kindly do us a favour and stop using it as a stock reply.

Chelsea considered him at one point last season but changed their minds.

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA~!!!!!

Still waiting for the Dream Alternative from someone...anyone.

I gave you five. Want more?

I wouldn't worry about the manager's bottle.

There's a big difference between having "bottle" and acting like a pig-headed, arrogant tosser in the face of your own fan's vitriol. But we knew the kind of man Allardyce was when we allowed him to poison the club. I hope we can recover, but fear it won't be for a decade at least.

There isn't an Anelka out there.

There are certainly better options for that price. No question about that whatsoever.

Fingers crossed Davies goes to Burnley (thanks for passing on that small bit of hope Nicko).

So was Santa Cruz's.

Who knows what will happen, he might score a fair few more this time around at Ewood. Different style of play and players.
