den Posted February 4, 2008 Posted February 4, 2008 You never would? Really?! Shocking. Tugay, if you have something to say, or a point to make, then fair enough. Otherwise, leave it out.
Yorick Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Bentley had a really poor game yesterday. As did MGP and Derbyshire , who as you pointed out was out of position. And so by definition was David Bentley! I know that we are desperately short in midfield and that the club comes first but Mark Hughes whilst repeatedly pushing Capello to pick Bentley is hardly giving him the best backing by playing him centre midfield is he?
T4E Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Tugay, if you have something to say, or a point to make, then fair enough. Otherwise, leave it out. OK - if you're going to argue with what I said, please read and address the points. I said nothing about Bentley not being our best player, I just backed up the point that he's out of form. Something which your post didn't address.
HATRIX Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_3109805,00.html :rover:Am i bothered?

I said nothing about Bentley not being our best player, I just backed up the point that he's out of form. Something which your post didn't address. You baffle me sometimes. I wasn't arguing with you, - I was giving a different opinion of Bentleys form. I think he's playing well and not out of form. He's out of form, but still our best player. - Is that what you're saying?
krislu Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 He's out of form, but still our best player. - Is that what you're saying? It doesn't take much to be our best player these days, so that sounds about right to me. In my opinion there are only two places where Bentley will play well on a regular basis. Either give him a free role in "hole" in a 4-4-1-1 formation or put him wide right. As a central midfielder he has never impressed me...

Flopsy Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 but Den, we keep losing, they deserve a lot of stick. Oh wait
LDRover Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Shall we have a vote on which player is the most 'out of form'? My vote goes to Pedersen..by a country mile. My point is, if we're going to pull the players apart for being 'out of form' there's a few more ahead of Bentley in the queue. For instance, I don't recall Samba or Warnock getting the same treatment during their 'lulls'.
T4E Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 You baffle me sometimes. I wasn't arguing with you, - I was giving a different opinion of Bentleys form. I think he's playing well and not out of form. That's not what you said. Thank you for clarifying. He's out of form, but still our best player. - Is that what you're saying? To avoid confusion, I'll go along with that. Our best player could probably be debated though.
Rovermatt Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Nice to see Bents took centre stage today modelling the new England kit, he wore the number 11, whilst Owen had 10, SWP had 8 and Rio 6, anything Mr Capello is telling us? Their respective IQs?
Hasta Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 I wouldn't say Bentley is paying poorly and out of form at the moment. However I also wouldn't say that his current form is international quality. He has played much better previously than he is doing now. I feel he's at his best when he's out on the right wing and has a bit of space. However, recently the lack of forward threat through the middle of midfield when we've gone 4-4-2 has meant that the defences have been able to pick him up pretty easily.
Ewood and I Would Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Looks like Bents is going to start http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/i...als/7229823.stm Chuffed for him if it's true. I just hope he doesn't try and force it though as he did when Capello came to watch us against Villa. He's gonna need to put in a good performance to win over those idiotic boo boys
Flopsy Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Gruniad Article Look at the stats at the bottom of the article
LeftWinger Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Well it sounds like Joe Cole behind Rooney, with Young and Bentley on the flanks. I quite like the sound of that formation.
Mozzer Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 it would be great if bentley started.. atleast he has more to his game, then just his crossing ability-with only rooney upfront..
tony gale's mic Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 yeah it sounds like we're going to be playing more of a passing game, theres no target man to hoof the ball upto. lets hope it works.
LeChuck Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Well it sounds like Joe Cole behind Rooney, with Young and Bentley on the flanks. I quite like the sound of that formation. If Capello's formation at Real Madrid is anything to go by, then we'll probably be lining up like... ---------------James Richards Ferdinand Upson Cole -------Gerrard Hargreaves----- Bentley-------Cole--------Young --------------Rooney------------- I think it'll certainly be a formation with a lot more fluidity than we've seen for many years, I'm looking forward to seeing it as well. It will be great for us if Bentley does start, I hope he does himself proud.
T4E Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 It will be a concern for us if Bentley does start, I hope he doesn't get injured. Modified slightly.
LeftWinger Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Modified slightly. I've just had flashbacks to Stuart Ripley playing for England
LeChuck Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Modified slightly. Thanks for correcting that, not sure how I made so many typos.
Tim Southampton Rover Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I've just had flashbacks to Stuart Ripley playing for England I was just about to say that! Unfortunately it's tradition that any Rovers winger, who plays for England, will definitely get injured on their first full start.
Earlydoors Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Rubbish ... Never rated him Too slow, skilful but not powerful / fast enough Every time I've thought that in the last 18 months he's gone on to score a wonder goal So.. Like I said Rubbish never rated him
Martyn Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Got a fiver on Bents to be first goalscorer at 12/1!. Do us proud lad.
