:rover: he also said them two were leaving  lets hope they do not want :xmas: as well :brfc:

Talksport have been reporting Bentley to Spurs for weeks now. Most of their staff are Spurs fans. That's why they don't need to tap up players. Their media contacts do it for them without their ever being in danger of anyone being able to prove anything against them.

Am I being cynical in thinking that Bentley's injuries are just a smoke screen? I mean two injuries in a week just in time to prevent him from playing in both friendlies so far? And know they may send him back early for treatment. Is that supposed to be translated as a bid is expected (or arrived) that meets the valuation?

Any insights Nicko?

I don't see how that's softening their stance. They've always given the impression that they would consider offers, but also that they won't take less than they think he's worth, which is exactly what this says again. Like most people I find the injuries to a player who was hardly injured all season somewhat conincidental. Either they want to keep him fit so they can get him sold so won't risk playing him or someone has had a kick in training cos they are all fed up with the situaton hanging over him.

They are linked with any young english player about. Bentley could be going to the graveyard of many young english talents.

I love the way the media are saying 'rovers soften Bentley stance', erm no I think you'll find JW is saying exactly what he said before, any decision is up to Paul Ince and we are under no pressure to sell. Muppets.

Still don't think we should sell him under £17million. If Gareth Barry is worth £18million then surely Bentley is in the same region?

If we sell anything under £17million i'd be gutted, and IF Nicko is right about the clause in his contract, then we need at least £10million for his replacement so £17million is right.

I trust JW and I know he will get us the best deal possible, like he usually does.

I think he is out tonight because he has dislocated his hair - just look at the pix from th'official website from Germany - very embarrassing indeed

Perhaps he's been seeing what happens when you have to leave it to dry without a hairdryer, so when he comes back to Ewood in the away dressing room he'll know what to expect.

Being linked with Villanueva and Castillo has been somewhat reassuring but I am far more concerned with the prospect of having to replace Bentley. The fact that no names have really been linked concerns me because, on the one hand, Emerton has been handed a new contract, but on the other, Ince has announced his intentions to sign a specialist right back. Either Emerton is going to play centre midfield or out on the right next season, and we all know that he simply isn't a right winger.

If we lose Bentley, it is of massive importance that we replace him with a player of real quality.

Excellent call.

The National media did seem to be linking us to Pennant a week or two ago in the event DB does leave.

Pennant has already said he has no plans to leave Liverpool also.

I think out of Lennon, SWP and Pennant - Id prefer Lennon, but only because of his pace.

I think we may be best lloking further a field on bentleys replacement - maybe to a more techinical style of league like Spain or Italy.

Ian Wright was asking the other day what he should advise SWP to do. Personally I think he's probably a Spurs fan as most players are and should therefore go there.

I thought it was the national press sports editors that were spuds fans :o

From Nicko's Thread

I agree with all of that, if Bentley moves there and isn't a lot more consistent there than he was here last season he'll disappear without trace. Again. Oh dear, what a shame, never mind.

I can't see them being very happy about his showboating either.

put me firmly in the "I still think Bents will be our right winger come the start of the season, and I'm happy with that" camp.

I'd be happy with it but I can't see it being the case.

It is, but have you never noticed how, when a player is wanted by the Spurs fans they always go on about his always having been a Spurs fan. It's like they can't admit that players move because your club offers more money or more chance of winning something than another club does. They've had a real shock with Keane wanting out and they can't believe he's not really Mr Spurs.

Keane wanting out does make me laugh!! Pool are in the chamions league, he knows what a mammoth task it will be to break in and stay there!!

Two contrasting theories-

1) Yes I completely fell for it when Nicko reported Ince had failed to turn up for the training course in Wales pointing out that only two days earlier being there was supposed to be signalling his bona fides about getting his badges. The reality turned out to be a turf war between the FAW and FA over who can give badges to EPL bosses!

So could it be the reality on Bentley is he has done a hamstring and is currently useless to man, beast, Rovers and Spuds?

2) When Bents appeared drunk in charge of a Sky Sports reporter in Spain, the price went up from £15m to £17m. Now it seems young David could have thrown another strop by coming home with an uncertain strain following which JW has popped up in the Murdoch press (the ones DB has a contract with) talking tough over rejecting £15m bids and saying the price is £18m. Perhaps DB or more to the point DB's people will understand being silly equals another £1m increase on the selling price and decreases his chance of a move?

PS Perhaps time to send some leaky junior staff at Brockhall to Citeh?

According to the BBC gossip column, Bentley has walked out of the Rovers training camp because he is annoyed at the lack of movement over a transfer. He must have thought that when he did the interview saying that he wanted to leave, that those clubs who are 'so much better than us, like Spurs and Villa' would come and pay up and he'd be off in no time. Now that we have slapped a hefty, but totally fair price on him, Spurs and Villa realise that they aren't going to get him on the cheap. The toys may be coming out of the pram because of this.

It is time for Bents to behave like an adult! If he's serious about permanently taking over from Beckham he should take a leaf out of the old captain's book; no matter what you think of Becks' life in the media spot light, he always won respect within the game for his general professional attitude!

We need to stand firm on the price.

£17-18 million or no sale.

Spurs also tend to do deals which involve paying for example £10 million now and the rest in bonuses in a years time or longer. With the fact we need as much money as we can get and then there issue about Arsenal wanting a slice, we should reject any offers that don't pay the full amount now.
