Fair play to Bentley for wanting to leave. He's joining his boyhood team and he's got us a nice profit. I was angry with the way he conducted his business but that's just him isn't it - arrogant, cocky etc. Thank god this mini debacle is over and Ince can now focus on the players who want to play for Blackburn Rovers.

Sorry for being right- JW did blink on the price at the end.

I don't think we did blink on the price to any appreciable extent.

Spurs initially tried to give us 12m up front which was rejected, and we don't know what triggers the add ons. So unless they're contingent on something like Bentley amassing 150 England caps we have every chance of bringing in 17m gross eventually.

Bentley showed a distinct lack of class in the end in the way he conducted himself pre season and with his comments in the press conference today. What use would he have been to us this season in that frame of mind? He didn't even perform in the second half of last season.

Where we did blunder was with the size of the sell on clause.

He also said he couldn't believe Spurs were actually interested in him (Yawn). A strange comment considering he said he wanted to mover to a champions league club!!

That's what I thought

One quote:

"I didn't really contemplate going to another club. This is where I want to develop as a player."

What was this talk about Champions League football then? Does he think Spurs are in the CL or is he just full of BS?

That's between Rovers and Arsenal. I'd not be surprised if it wasn't mentioned at all in negotiations between us and Spurs.

Edit: fix my rotten spellinge

AussieintheUK. This is Spurs fulfilling their obligations to report material transactions under the yellowbook rules. It has nothing to do with Rovers and any contract we might have with the Arse which is completely irrelevant.

I agree with you, but I thought nicko mentioned in the other thread that this was disclosed.. maybe he was referring to the total transfer of the £15m and not the sell on - if so, my bad.

Question for PhilipL or others in the know - Will this be disclosed in the yearly rovers accounts or will it be hidden under a 'misc'?

Sorry for banging on about this, but 40-50% seems so unbelievable..

Lastly - Does anyone know if we have inserted a sell-on clause with Tottenham?

I can guarrantee there will be no sell-on clause from Spuds on a £15m fee; that's unheard of.

Wait til Spring 2010 to read the Rovers accounts but you'll be able to work out how much Arse get provided there aren't too many fee undisclosed deals fugging the picture between now and 30 June 2009.

I am extremely angry, not at Ince, Rovers or JW but the man called "David Bentley".

When he arrived at Rovers he was a young man who looked like he was throwing his talent away, as shown with a poor season at Norwich where huge question marks appeared over his attitude and work rate.

We invested in him, gave him time to mature and develop as a first team player.

Where would David Bentley be today without Rovers? Answer probably like Routledge, being passed from team to team for a lesser fee every time.

What thanks do we get the fans, the club, the chairman for the above, NOTHING, not a single word about Rovers, the fans, NOTHING. This is why I was heartened to hear Brad's words in the LET it brought some sanity to a crazy world of football.

Agreed- David Bentley would literally have been nothing without his time at Ewood.

So why could the arrogant so and so not acknowledge what we as a club have done for him? Why did he have to rub salt in the wounds by stating Spurs are the only club for him, knowing he said he wanted to join a champions league team months ago!

Question for DB: Who finished higher in the league last year Spurs or Rovers?

Question for DB - Who backed you when you pull outy of the U21's?

Question for DB - Which fans called for your England call up?

MR Big head has done it again - Thanks for the memories David, hope you fail miserably at Tottenham "Chop & Change" Hotspurs

Firstly, I'm not sure if you noticed, but it took Brad a while to speak positively about Rovers...he certainly didn't do it in his first press conference with his new club!

Secondly, Bentley has only ever said excellent things about the club. He's praised the way we are run on several occasions, and also said how he'd lost interest in football until he moved here and credited Rovers with saving his career.

Give a few days for him to deal with the Spurs hype (he's their new £15 million signing for FFS) and I'm sure he'll say good things about us, just as Brad has eventually done. In the mean time you might want to pick that dummy up from the floor.

i am glad now Bentley has gone and now Rovers can move on and try and bring in a suitable replacement for him. Good luck Bents at your new club, just one question though i thought you wanted to join a champions league club to further your career lol

Yeh he has stated a few times that we saved him. We gave him all the support he needed. I hope he comes out a mentions the club, fans and the board.

MH has not mentioned anything either.

Our midfield is looking very very very poor at the moment. No creativity what so ever.

Brad did his talking behind the sences, Bentley has not!

Brad turned up to training, played in pre-season games got on with his job.

Bentley kicked up stink at the Gooners, because he felt Wenger was wrong and he was ready for the first team. He did the same for the U21's.

Bentley wants CL football, then UEFA cup, I've gone as far as I can at Rovers. Not playing at Macclesfield returns home from Germany calf injury, hamstring injury next, coincedence I doubt it.

Compare the two careers to date and you will see a distinct, difference in how they both handle situations.

You can call it my opinion, I don't really care.

bentley made a mistake by doing it in public. But the results are exactly the same. they both moved to clubs who have a much greater chance of breaking into the top4 than we do.

for the record - rovers sent him home from germany, because they knew the deal was imminent. It wasn't bentleys call.

i have been told this from someone who I trust 100% who is connected to the club.

He's still an Arsehole to me.

As Micheal said to older brother Fredo: Fredo, you're nothing to me now. You're not a brother, you're not a friend. I don't want to know you or what you do. I don't want to see you at the hotels, I don't want you near my house. When you see our mother, I want to know a day in advance, so I won't be there. You understand? .

<_<

Sorry, but i hope we'll all be looking to draw parallels with Duffer's career in a few years. (am I the only one on this particular rant?)

Hello all. I'm new here in terms of posting but have been reading the board for many months. Do you find that when you talk to non football fans in your friends and family they often highlight a certain aspect of the character of every football fan? The art of being fickle.

For example when Rovers sign a new player and your excitement is short lived when you are reminded that "You said he was useless and a ****** last season."

I feel that the same is happening with Bentley on this board. I don't think there will be many people here that didn't feel at least a little bit of excitement when he picked up the ball in a little bit of space. I think after the initial anger has calmed there will not be many people that will be able to argue against what I believe to be a fact that he has been a hugely important player for us.

But I do not feel that he is as non replaceable as say Alan Shearer was. Blackburn Rovers are one of the few cats in English Football. They seem to lose lives and keep coming back time after time. I believe John Williams is in control and would not allow Blackburn to be steered towards the Championship by anyone.

I am gutted that Bentley has gone but it was something that not only was I expecting but in the end I was praying to get it over and done with. I do not think having a player in your squad that is unhappy is a good thing. Even with Bentley having to give 100% for us to maintain his place in the England squad, I cannot help but feel that as his status grew he would spread a little poison around the club, tempting more players to leave in January.

Now is his true test. Whether we like it or not, Blackburn Rovers are seen as a small club that are hard to beat and everytime we do well you cannot help but notice the tabloids "awww didn't they do well" attitude. Now he is in the spotlight, in London getting beat is a far more serious deal than up here. Every mistake, every poor cross will now be highlighted and discussed, nothing will go unoticed.

What he does is completely his own doing and nothing to do with us. He has left and our only consideration should now be "Where do we go from here?"

Ince:

Ince insists it is time to look to the future at Ewood Park after giving the green light to David Bentley's £15m sale to Spurs.

He said: "I've got fed up with talking about David Bentley. For everyone's sake, I think it was best to get it out of the way.

It seems like Bentley was doing everything he could to make trouble on the pre-season trip.
