RibbleValleyRover Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 England on top here, increasingly looking like Australia will have to bat for the draw. Don't think the pitch is that different from yesterday it may have a bit more pace. I think the shocking performance yesterday (Johnson in particular) from Australia might cost them.

DeadlyDirk Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Good effort by us, bowling well, let's keep it up till the end of the day.
AussieinUk Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 England bowling very well here.. Well done to Anderson.
T4E Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Brilliant stuff from England, we're in a fantastic position now. Whats the follow on targer? Cmon LeftWinger, say something else!
Hughesy Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 You can watch it live on Skyplayer. If you've not already registered you just need your viewing card number to hook it up to your subscription. http://skyplayer.sky.com/vod/page/default/home.do Do you need to have your computer the same house or not?! I.e. could I take my laptop to a hotel and still use it?? Brilliant stuff from England, we're in a fantastic position now. Whats the follow on targer? 152-8 - Come on!!! What's the odds we blow it?!
AussieinUk Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Oh dear.. 152/8 now and that is the last recognised batsman. 74 to avoid follow on.. No chance
jim mk2 Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 One more wicket for Anderson please .... deserves a 5 for.
broadsword Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 You are priceless Jim. In fact, you are thicker than a 4 by 4 piece of wood. What do you reckon the Australian batting reply will be? Shall we start at 400, 500 or 600? Lets face it, Australia are about to face a 3rd rate county bowling attack. hahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Superb Maybe if I started acting Aussie and bigging them up - England might get some break throughs. G'Day Mate ya flaming galare! Put another shrimp on the barbie! Our boys going well here, can't see the Poms taking another wicket any time soon. Fingers Crossed! It works, it works!
Flopsy Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 Look, dont write the Aussies off just because they've had a (very bad) day and a half, same way as the Aussies shouldnt have been so cocky after Cardiff. Give England a decent pitch and swinging conditions and they'll give any line up a run for their money, also Aus got themselves out to stupid shots in part, thanks to pressure. Pressure from a very scrapy bowling display today and yesterday, pressure from a fired up opposition, who they took for granted, pressure from lack of experience, pressure from playing at Lords and pressure excerted by a bowling attack with favourable (but not outrageous) conditions. Like you had yesterday.
Flopsy Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 I blame Smyth over on the guardian OBO, when he's commentating wickets are falling, his record so far is 14 of the 18 to fall, you antipodeans will be pleased to know he's covering the morning session tomorrow
Bazzanotsogreat Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 One thing that was noticible today was the pace that Freddie bowling at. The delievery that bowled Hussey clocked 95.5 mph. That is the quickest I have ever seen him bowl.
pg Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Maybe if I started acting Aussie and bigging them up - England might get some break throughs. G'Day Mate ya flaming galare! Put another shrimp on the barbie! Our boys going well here, can't see the Poms taking another wicket any time soon. Fingers Crossed! It's galah Galah - Wiki link The Galah (pronounced /ɡəˈlɑː/), Eolophus roseicapilla, also known as the Rose-breasted Cockatoo, Galah Cockatoo, Roseate Cockatoo or Pink and Grey, is one of the most common and widespread cockatoos, and it can be found in open country in almost all parts of mainland Australia. Oh, and you put prawns on the barbie, not shrimps. These are prawns on the BBQ : We are not Americans.
philipl Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 You are priceless Jim. In fact, you are thicker than a 4 by 4 piece of wood. What do you reckon the Australian batting reply will be? Billy Castell Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Hopefully the next pitch will offer something for fast bowlers, and then we can unleash Harmison. He may be ___ when he has no confidence, and/or the pitch is slow and batter friendly, but right now he's going mental. I know I have changed my tune, but the fact Lords is not another test killing pitch, and that Harmison seems to be getting better and better has got me thinking that he might just be back to the form around 2004-2005. Problem is, if the others keep this up, who will be dropped?
neekoy Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Inspired performance from England, will they enforce the follow on? I would go for the jugular and make history, I don;t think you want to be batting last on this pitch
SouthAussieRover Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Well I'll be buggered. I might try and stay up tonight and watch it.
philipl Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Fine weather for London today but rain showers forecast tomorrow and Monday. I think that pretty well seals the deal on the follow-on if the Aussie tail does not wag.
Nate Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 also Aus got themselves out to stupid shots in part, thanks to pressure. My gripe with the Australian team for a few years.
Hughesy Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Why are we batting - why have we not enforced the follow on - Rain will come they will bat for aslong as it takes - Draw Poor decision
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 Bad decision IMO. There's going to be rain over the next couple of days, the pitch isn't going to change much and will continue to be a decent batting pitch right up to the the final day. Its got a draw written all over it.
stuwilky Posted July 18, 2009 Posted July 18, 2009 An unbelievable decision. A recipe for an Aussie win.
