We've (Sunderland) been linked with a £7million move for Lorik Cana of Marseille in the Mirror today.......is this the midfielder nicko was talking about or did he report something different?

I would be delighted if this was true, although I doubt he'd even consider coming to us.......unless we're the only team who can afford him.

Any news on this nicko?, even a remote possibility?

Thanks.

Right I'm off to France for a few weeks. Hopefully by the time I'm back the striker problem will be solved, we'll have beaten City and got our first away win. In the meantime I'll be cheering on Lorient to hopefully their first home win of the season, seeing my grandson for the first time since New Year and doing my best to get fit for the new school year. Bye all. Have a good summer.

Nearly drove onto the Lorient pitch a couple of weeks ago as the summer ground works were in operation and the access gate to the ground open. Is that really a wall behind one of the goals.

Cana seems to be linked to loads

Everton, Villa, spuds and West Ham too

All today or just over the summer generally?

Don't think any of those could afford him unless they sell, except Villa who probably don't need another CM unless they're moving someone on.

Mirror reckons Bruce has had talks with him, seems an odd thing to say if it's just speculation.

Over the past few weeks

Don't villa need to replace Barry?

spud have just sold Zokora

Sure both of those could afford him as probably could Everton

yes because they are rebuilding the stand which was a standing area.

Spurs sold Zakora but their CM pairing is Palacios and Modric and then Huddlestons, Jenas and O'hara can both play that position.......they still haven't bid for Crouch or any other targets officially which suggests they don't have money.

Everton are flat Broke, no benefactor.....they're just lucky Moyes can spot a good loan/championship bargain.

Villa might be interested as a replacement for Barry but they've just spent £12m on Downing.

I'm hoping there's some truth in our reported interest.#

We've also just withdrawn from the race to sign Crouch at an opportune moment (his agent had just tried to extend his deadline by saying he's still interested and was very impressed with safc).....I'm over the moon about that to be honest. Worth nowhere near £90k a week if he's more interested in his bird's 'career' and I'd rather keep Jones while signing someone to compliment him.

You probably want to hope you get Zigic now or have another iron in the fire.

Well again I guess if you believe the papers then all the spud players you mentioned have been linked elsewhere and Modric played on the Left for them well at least he did when I saw them on TV last season.

Wonder if Crouch is gettinga sweetener to stay at Pompey now?

Everton will have money to spend too as they were after the youngster at Sheff Utd, till spuds showed the sizes of their wallet, mind thats still not done as far as I know.

I don't think Crouch was ever going north of London and the way he's faffing around, he'll be lucky to get north of Portsea.

Don't think Spurs are in for Canaa other than their long long long list of every pro footballer in the world.

Whether Spurs are active depends on how many Sevilles there are out there- £9m for Zokora!!! I'd expect spuds will bend on Bent at the end of the window if you still have £13m+bits burning a hole in the Manager's pocket.

As for Rovers, I'm sticking with my forecast of much effort but a transfer drought until the second half of the window.

The striker situation isnt getting any easier. Best to avoid anything that involves Tottenham or Sunderland.

SSN - 11.58 Sunderland have pulled out of the race to sign England international Peter Crouch from Portsmouth as they believe the striker favours a move to either Tottenham or Fulham.

SSN - 11.14 Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has admitted to his interest in signing Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh

It's so tricky at the moment, you can see why BFS is trying to keep things close to his chest with Sunderland and Spuds looking for strikers. It would seem they have more money than us, or at least in Spuds case are prepared to offer more in wages, so if a player becomes available there is no point in us getting involved in a bidding wall between them.

Hopefully we can pull a gem out of nowhere that nobody else has looked at, otherwise we'll be back in for Kevin Davies on deadline day at this rate!

Not sure if the european strikers will be cheaper these days Hughesy. The exchange rate doesnt help us now.

Looking at the prices quoted for the likes of Zigic and Janko I think we're going to pay through the nose for whoever we go for.
