philipl Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Hughesey. You are using prices quoted for Janko and Zigic some two seasons ago- add 50% to those numbers. I meant 2nd half of August is when I'd expect any signings to be made by Rovers now.
TheNews Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Still............. Janko - £7-8m Zigic - £8-10m Bent - £16m Both the two foreign lads would also come in for smaller wages........... Not sure any more with our Tax rate going up to 50% from next April
Scotty Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 After not being mentioned for a while, Mr Nixon gets a bumper mention in todays Football 365 Mediawatch column
BuckyRover Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Gordon Brown has destroyed the Premiership. I bet they didn't that when they went for their morally corrupt 50% tax band.
nicko Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 After not being mentioned for a while, Mr Nixon gets a bumper mention in todays Football 365 Mediawatch column Odd...you spend your life on that topic. Do they pay well? For the record. Crouch quoted those figures to Sunderland who pulled the plug on the deal officially today...although it was mentioned here last night. And Vieri's move was called off by the manager because he was not fit to play. I'm sure the door is open, but he may get stuck going through it. Most people who follow news would know this. Unless they had the IQ of a slug.
T4E Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 After not being mentioned for a while, Mr Nixon gets a bumper mention in todays Football 365 Mediawatch column The Ridiculous Alan Nixon - Part Two Wrote Alan Nixon in The Daily Mirror on July 20: 'Christian Vieri's dream of joining Blackburn Rovers is over - because boss Sam Allardyce thinks he is too out of shape. The veteran Italian striker spent a week on a fitness assessment course with Rovers but failed to meet the club's standards.' Said Sam Allardyce on July 20: "When we assessed Christian from the Austrian trip, he was not in the right condition to consider for games. We will weigh that up when we get back and if he wants to come and we feel it is right for the club then he could still join us for the last month. We will see what he wants to do and whether we think we can get him to the level to make a stab at it in the Premier League." I thought it had been confirmed Vieri has gone?
Taggart Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Not sure if the european strikers will be cheaper these days Hughesy. The exchange rate doesnt help us now. Looking at the prices quoted for the likes of Zigic and Janko I think we're going to pay through the nose for whoever we go for. I`m not too bothered if we do pay through the nose - but it makes the decision making of BFS that little bit more important ! Pay through the nose and the striker bags 15-20 goals and is mainly injury free - Fantastic decision making by BFS Pay through the nose and the striker bags 3-8 goals and is a crock for most of the season - Not going to go down well, especially when we are talking about the money that Rovers have to spend (allegedly) and doesn`t happen very often ! What worries me more than anything, is going in to the season with Gally, Benni, Jason as our lead 3 in attack. I will feel much more comfortable if and when we secure Di Santo on loan, which will relieve some of the pressure in my opinion on the purchase of a new striker. Odd...you spend your life on that topic. Thought Vieri was going to practice his "royal flushes" and "full houses" and to have Domino`s on speed dial.
nicko Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 I thought it had been confirmed Vieri has gone? I think he was 'gone' about three years ago. The truth is he was given his chance and was out of condition, as better-informed posters than me have already revealed on here. Still searching for a by-line from one of the f***wit365.com pond life. Or a story of their own for that matter. Pass on my regards, Scotty.
cn174 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 This is my favourite bit: '"Christian Vieri's dream of joining Blackburn Rovers is over" All those years of playing for Milan, Inter, Lazio and Juve when all the time he just wanted to play for Rovers
Scotty Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Pass on my regards, Scotty. I'm afraid I've no idea either who writes the column. It's just a column that occasionally makes me smile, just like your increasingly indignant reactions to it.
philipl Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I've heard the £90K to get rid of Sunderland's interest from a completely different source.

Beta Ray Bill Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 This is my favourite bit: '"Christian Vieri's dream of joining Blackburn Rovers is over" All those years of playing for Milan, Inter, Lazio and Juve when all the time he just wanted to play for Rovers Many years ago, I signed Vieri on Champ on a free and huge wages. He scored loads of goals even at the age of 34 or so, and I offered him a new contract after his first 3 year one. The response was "Christian Veiri has signalled his desire to end his playing days at Blackburn Rovers stating his reasons were his deep respect for Beta Ray Bill and his undying love for the club." Clearly the guys at CM knew of his dream, pity the club didn't!
Scotty Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Keep your strange alliance up...it makes me look good. Hmmm...you seem to be very touchy and abusive considering it's something that "makes you look good".
robborover Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 As for Rovers, I'm sticking with my forecast of much effort but a transfer drought until the second half of the window. Totally agree! Nothing important will happen until certain other teams make their moves and/or lower their valuations.
TheNews Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Hi Nicko So Crouchy's misses didn't fancy the NE and £90k a week so where does that leave him, Fulham, spuds or even a stay at Pompey now they have been taken over? Does that mean Sunderland will be back in for Bent again? And more importantly when are we going to sign a goal machine?
Eddie Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I'd be very surprised if Chamakh ended up at Lyon. He wants a move away from Ligue 1, moving to Lyon, even if they are a bigger club than Bordeaux, changes little for him. He'll be moving abroad.
DeadlyDirk Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Hopefully we can get Di Santo in by the end of the month or so and at least have some striking variation!

Does that mean Sunderland will be back in for Bent again? And more importantly when are we going to sign a goal machine? Fulham need to move out Zamora who doesn't seem to fancy the delights of Humberside. Spurs would only afford him if they had a player or two to throw into the deal...and he won't be getting the big wages there either. The big lad may have done himself in here. Sunderland will probably go back for Bent, but now Levy has them over a barrel...and the player will know what Crouch was getting. Ouch. All of which does little for Rovers and their striker search. Sunderland would need TWO new signings before Jones became available. I don't consider Campbell in the 'first team starter' bracket for now.
alexanders Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Seriosly though Nicko? Don't you fancy our chances of getting Chamakh? Especially if Sunderland goes after Bent?
nicko Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 Seriosly though Nicko? Don't you fancy our chances of getting Chamakh? Especially if Sunderland goes after Bent? I think Chamakh will go to Arsenal...and so does another club in the race for him...
alexanders Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Don't you think Arsenal will fancy Gignac instead? I say it again, there are so many strikers looking likely to move this summer: Gignac Negredo Crouch Bent Zigic Janko Chamakh Ibricic Demba Ba Gomis Guiza Mandzuka

The completion of Pompey's takeover can't exactly help us either can it, regardless of what happens with Crouch I would expect them to be after a striker. I don't think were really any closer to working out who our striker might be than we were a month or so ago, other than ruling out a few targets, certainly does seem to be a tough job, I'm glad the likes of Bent and Crouch are over priced because neither of them are that great, Crouch scores goals against the weaker teams but struggles against the bigger clubs (I'll just conveniently forget the hat trick against Arsenal) and Bent has good pace and can finish but doesn't have a lot else to his game, not enough for the price anyway. Kind of wishing for the 3m we got for him that we had kept Derbyshire now, I guess it depends on who we bring in with that extra 3m to see whether or not it was a good deal.
