EwoodGlory Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Nicko any news on jonas guitierez at newcastle? Out of all their players he is the only one worth having imo. 2 good full, plenty on running and can take on people, given a good manager and a decent side around him i think he could be a star. They have a transfer embargo in place. Noone is allowed in or out, part of the ongoing takeover negotiations apparently. Word is that Barca made an approach for Enrqiue, only to be told they wern't allowed to let him talk to them.

alexanders Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 We need another turk, bring in Tuncay! 100% agree with the poster who said it would be very good with Di Santo and Tuncay.

Roma want him, but it would have to be a buy - Newcaste won't let anyone go on loan at the moment.
Rathbone Market Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Reo Coker is a big time charlie. He thinks he is a lot better than he actually is. He also caused a dressing room split at West Ham which was why Curbishley couldn't wait to sell him... You are right. 100%. Was once in the changing rooms sounding off about being a 'top four' player when Sheringham put him in his place, letting him know that he was nowhere near that quality and should wind his neck in. Left with the message he was moving on to bigger and better things- time has shown he has an over-inflated view of himself imo. Good engine, decent in the tackle but can't pass.
Nelson! Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 x removed x Blackburn Rovers topic and messageboard thanks
beerwins Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Tuncay would be great , if we are looking for the target men of strikers he would be the perfect man to play off him in a 4.5.1 free role. However in saying that i dont think we could afford his wages, would be nice though.

He would be worth it, turkish captain and in his prime.

Championship player not allowed to talk to Barcelona, how frustrating must that be only in Newcastle
BB9 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 If we are in for a target man, as it seems. We could do worse than take a look at Julio Cruz, just released by Inter. 34 but could do a job for a season? and 6ft 3"
John Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 The Italian will start by clearing out the dead wood that previous managers have collected up front — Chelsea have seven strikers — with Claudio Pizarro and Franco Di Santo the most vulnerable

BB9 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 The Italian will start by clearing out the dead wood that previous managers have collected up front — Chelsea have seven strikers — with Claudio Pizarro and Franco Di Santo the most vulnerable Pizarro had a great season with Werder Bremen last year. Would be happy to see him here.
Torgeir Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Pizarro had a great season with Werder Bremen last year. Would be happy to see him here. Same, he's a good player and still has a few good years in him at 30. His wages are probably high though as he came on a free from Bayern to Chelsea in 2007.

Hughesy Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Promising - Di Santo still looks likely i think. That leaves us with McCarthy, Roberts, Di Santo & Hoilett - compare to last season of Benni & Samba
Torgeir Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I think whoever (if ever?) we sign will be on big wages. There's a gap between big and Chelsea/City big. But I don't think Pizarro is unrealistic at all.
bob fleming Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 - compare to last season of Benni & Samba True Hughesy, but that really was 'living on the edge' stuff. Madness in fact, all down to circumstances of course (the loss of RSC and Woberts) but that sitaution will surely be avoided this season. I'd be very surprised if Di Santo doesn't come on loan. As for the "big summer signing" - "someone to excite the fans" - I haven't the foggiest. I don't think anyone has. Is Pizarro a target man?
Hi Mack Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 There's a gap between big and Chelsea/City big. But I don't think Pizarro is unrealistic at all. Didnt see him playing at Werder Bremen, but at Chelsea he was awful. Im still sure we can do better. Things should spark in to life this week, Hopefully we'll have a better idea of Sams targets.
bob fleming Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Hopefully we'll have a better idea of Sams targets. Actually, and this is no slight on anyone here at all, hopefully we'll have no bleeding idea who we're after until they've actually signed. Why alert anyone else to who we're after? Fun free I know, but how we like to go about our business I seem to recall (last summer being the exception).
nicko Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 The Italian will start by clearing out the dead wood that previous managers have collected up front — Chelsea have seven strikers — with Claudio Pizarro and Franco Di Santo the most vulnerable What a load of tosh that is...Di Santo ISN'T vulnerable...they see him as a long-term first team player...that is why they are taking care about finding him the right home where he can develop. If he WAS vulnerable he would have been gone by now. There is a queue for him round the block. Just spotted this. My French is O level standard but I think he is saying he wants out and fancies a new challenge...flirting with both Arsenal and Sunderland. No mention of Rovers. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing. Probably confirms you are non-runners. Anyway, digest and enjoy. http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2009/...urs-partir.html
brian_gallagher85 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Mentions both Arsenal and Sunderland, but states that he wants to play in the Champions League - so in theory, ruling out The Makems? Malheureusement, ce n'est pas une règle de trois clubs! (I know my French grammar is crap)
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 It’s increasingly looking likely to me that Sam is going to bring in an unknown striker, or someone with a lower profile than the ones we have been linked to. This isn't necessarily bad, we've bought unknown players before and turned them into real gems and there may be someone cheaper that can do a job in the system Sam wants to play. I think Sam realises that we need to get a striker in fairly soon, 20 odd days to go until the new season starts. To give a new striker especially a foreign one some time to gel with the squad should give him a decent kick start going into the new season. If this is the case I hope the rest of the money is spent on the central midfield, we need to bring in one central midfielder IMO, someone with a bit of flair or has that ability to make those forward runs into or towards the box.
Backroom Tom Posted July 21, 2009 Backroom Posted July 21, 2009 Agreed RVR time is starting to be a factor now, we don't want to end up with a last minute panic buy or more likely for us, nobody at all. At this point I like the idea of a cheaper targer man and spend a wad on Tuncay
Nelson! Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Regarding my Sunderland based post, I apologise.....didn't realise it was against the etiquette of the board to talk about other clubs. I can understand your decision, although since most of our business seems inter-linked this summer I have a feeling my club will come up a few times yet ;-) Cheers. Oh, and on Chamakh.....on article (translated on our boards from Frenchto English) has him saying that he'd have been happy to wait a couple of weeks to see if Arsenal came in for him, but Bordeaux want him out sharpish if he's going at all so he's happy to come to Sunderland as it's "all or nothing". Mentions our manager and the opportunity we're giving him. I know, I know....Blackburn topic.....but this backs up what nicko was saying about you guys not being in for him so I guess he's another name off your list. Remains to be seen if you've missed out/we've struck lucky or not.....assuming Arsene doesn't make a last minute raid, of course.
Jordanknox Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Mentions both Arsenal and Sunderland, but states that he wants to play in the Champions League - so in theory, ruling out The Makems? Malheureusement, ce n'est pas une règle de trois clubs! (I know my French grammar is crap) Thats not what it says mate Translation: "Intervened in the issue Europe 1 Foot, Tuesday night at Dax, after the victory over Girondins Bordeaux Olympique Marseille in friendly (2-1), Marouane Chamakh was satisfied with his team before confess to a half-words that he would probably sign for Sunderland next season. "Regarding my future, I am firm and decided. I never said I was not well in Bordeaux, it is a wonderful club but I made a wish: I want to join the Premier League, I want to clarify my situation as quickly as possible. Sunderland could be a good challenge for me, why not? I expect from my side to have an offer to Arsenal, but the problem with Bordeaux, is that they want a quick response. Me, I would have expected Arsenal two weeks, there have been no problem, "said the Moroccan international." Bordeaux have put a deadline of 22nd/23rd July to sort it out and he reckons an Arsenal bid is 2 weeks away. If it was up to him he would wait til 31st August for Arsenal as its his dream but his team wont wait that long so he would be happy to join Sunderland.
