I agree. We didn't have Santa Cruz last season, the hysterics are unnecessary.

Agree with both posts to a point. I think we'd survive with what we've got. But for me the worry comes with our existing frontline. In a strugling team McCarthy doesn't show enough spirit or fight. This worries me an awful lot. Roberts will fight for the cause but is dreadful in the air and this is going to be an attribute which is vital to our system next year. So, although i don't think we'd get relegated with what we've got, if we failed to secure a new front man i'd consider it a very poor summer of shopping. Much like last year. We needed a right midfielder and failed to secure one. We survived but it was far from pretty. I consider this summer to be very similar. We spend well we can get top 10. We fail to fill positions needed we can expect a lowly finish again.

Looks like they will get Chamakh and we will bid for Jones.

I doubt it somehow, we're aiming to have four strikers next season (so says Bruce) and at the moment we have two. Bringing one in and selling one gets us no closer to four.

I think if there was any possibility of Jones becoming available it ended when we pulled out of the Crouch deal.

I think you'll end up with Zigic or someone not even mentioned yet.

Nice to see so many Rovers fans being optimistic

When Benni and Roberts played together last season they scored goals. The two of them prevented us from getting relegated and had Roberts not got his injury I think we would have finished higher. Not because he would have scored a shed load but because he and Benni have a great understanding and together they would have created and scored more goals.

If we start the season with Benni, Roberts, Gally and Di Santo I wouldn't be too concerned. Of course I'd rather we went out and bought a top quality striker, but seeing as they seem to be thin on the ground, or far too expensive, I'd prefer we didn't waste our money. Gally knows he has to prove himself this season. Benni wants to get back into the SA squad for the World Cup and Di Santo will have something to prove coming here on loan. All hungry, which will only be good for the club.

As for the rest of the team Sam has ensured we are far stronger than last season. Simply bringing in Givet and Diouf has seen to that without the addition of some young lads with a mixture of pace and strength. We've got a good squad, and even if Grella, Dunn and Reid only play 10 games each because of injury we have plenty of back up in Warnock, Emerton, N'Zonzi and Andrews.

it's a far better squad than we started with last season (except for the loss of Cruz, but then he spent more time talking to the Paraguayan press and sitting on the treatment table than actually playing) and a far better manager as well.

Without a new striker we won't be qualifying for Europe, but we certainly won't be in a relegation battle.

good post.... im sure thats how most of us feel... well put...

Very suprised Sbragia took the scouting job at SOL!

From boss to bitch in 2 months!

And people who say Roberts and McCarthy will do the business are wishful thinking! They

scored a few last season but both struggled against top teams! It was embarassingly easy to defend against them!

No you're spot on, we didn't have him last season. How did last season go again?

We are yet to replace Bentleys creativity, as well as Santa Cruzs' goals. Santa Cruz still scored some key goals for us last season, and though it is only an opinion, I think him staying in January gave the fans and club a huge lift which may (though we'll never know) have had a hand in us pulling out of the mess we were in.

Nope, sorry, not having that.

If our best three midfielders (which is an unfortunate state anyway) are injured we can stick our two fullbacks there (further weakening those positions as well) or rely on two players who have payed most their careers in the second/third tiers of domestic football.

That's where the relegation dogfight comes around again...

I'd say they certainly need another striker. While the above players are all talented, there is no powerful front man there, they're all too light-weight. There are also a few injury prone ones amongst them, and other than Eduardo, no out and out goalscorer.

They still have Bendtner who would fit that criteria so maybe they may not be too bothered about replacing Adebayor.

Anyway, back to Rovers news, I would like to see us go in for Chamakh as he would be a quality signing by the sounds and looks of things but at the moment I just want us to go in for someone whether its Zigic or Janko or anyone, I just want something to happen and some good news soon! It's getting boring now. Zigic would still be a decent signing IMO so hopefully we can sort something out soon if he is still Sam's number one target.

Ince....

We ended first half of the season in the relegation zone with Ince, and Cruz for a large part. Ended second half comfortably safe without Cruz for the vast majority of it.

I would like us to replace him. But I would prefer we didn't waste the money because we feel we have to buy somebody.

The main point I would make is that Emerton and Warnock when they have played midfield have not looked any worse than Dunn, better than Grella and Reid (except for his half season of brilliance) , and are a lot better than Mokoena and Vogel.

Jacobsen and Givet are very good full backs.

N'Zonzi is a big unknown but Sam seems to be indicating he could be in the 18 come Man City.

Givet and Jacobsen will are more than capable of being first choice full backs. I don;t think playing those two would weaken our side. In fact, I think Givet is a better defender than Warnock.

Emerton and Warnock have both shown they can play in midfield, and very well. Seem to remember Emerton playing there against liverpool and he had an excellent game up against some of the best midfielders around.

I don't expect Grella, Dunn and Reid to be missing most of the season, I put that in because so many people think that they won't be able to play more than 10 games each. I tend to be slighlty more optimistic than your average Rovers fan :D

11.59 Anderlecht's Argentinian midfielder Lucas Biglia is holding out to seal a move to the Premier League, his British representative has confirmed.

If I remember correct we have been linked with this guy before?

- He has been touted as one of the stars to watch out for in the 2010 World Cup.

- He is a player often compared to Andrea Pirlo due to the way he plays the game. Biglia has a good passing range, high positional sense and a calm head.

I say, bring him in!

we had santa and a moron in charge for 5 months..........struggle

no santa and a top manager for 5 months................european form

we ain't struggling next season with whats here we just won't be tearing the league up, does no one think that chamkh fella has a pretty shoddy attitude speaking through the papers ala roque, bentley and is probably a zaki mido type best left untouched. janko for me with zigic the fall back plan.

hull/burnley/wolves/birmingham/bolton/sunderland/pompey/stoke...............fully expect all of them to behind us regardless of signing a new striker in my mind we are guarenteed 12th before the season starts with sam in charge.

I've heard that Anderlecht are after between £4m & £6m for him... this guy is pure class on his day, but his biggest drawback is that he has a habit of disappearing when the going gets rough, not much of a fighter, but once he's on the ball, he is top quality.

Dont think we will get him, but it would be good if we could.

Just a thought on another target man type player... Artem Milevskiy, plays for Dinamo Kiev. Ukranian International, not the best scoring record, but could be a cheaper version of that Chamakh fella, as hes a similar player & still quite young (24), with good potential, he's highly regarded over there anyway!!!

I've heard hes decent, if we are looking that far afield, mybe he's on the radar???

50-70 % of his goals are penalties.

72.412% of all stats are completely made up.

I've only checked last season, where that number was 33%, (4 of 12) but if that number over his Rovers career, or his whole career, is above 50%, not to mention 70% I'll eat my hat. I'll even buy a nice new hat and eat it. 07/08 will probably have 50%, but not overall.

M'Bami and Pancrate played for Portsmouth on trial last night...just for your info. M'Bami was on the Rovers radar but is still looking for a home, Pancrate was shown the door by the Claret and Blue Brazilians.

There is one or two disillusioned people on here, and I hope to god I'm wrong, but I'm still concerened that as things stand, we are one of the weaker teams in the league.

As things stand these are weaker than us:

Hull, Portsmouth, Burnley, Wolves, Wigan, Birmingham, Sunderland and to a certain extent maybe Stoke and West Ham aswell.

Chamakh's boss thinks he will go to a club 'big enough' for him and rules out Sunderland...still no mention of Rovers. Think it is cash-plus-Silvestre from Arsenal for Chamakh if you read between the lines.

http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/breves2009/...sunderland.html

Old News.

Chamak's boss has always said this, but Chamakh insists that he would like to go to Sunderland and not only Arsenal. His biggest dream is to play in the EPL.
