If Wenger really does rate him then the chances are he is good.

I'm kind of hoping if we go for him, its not just because ARSEnal want him & we have actually watched him... I'm sure Whinger once said "David Dunn is one of the most creative midfielders in the premiership". Although I do rate Dunny when he's fit, he's certainly not one that I would put in the "most creative" bracket.

Not seen enough of Chamakh to think that he would definately do the business. Whinger does have fantastic judgement, but I'm not sure he's right all the time!!!

Someone is going to have to take a punt on one of these strikers sharpish to get the ball rolling though!!!

I agree that Wenger isn't always right in the transfer market, but he knows the French scene well and is usually sound in that department.

After all he has just marked up around £15 million profit on Adebayor, a player other clubs wouldn't touch - including West Ham who could have had him first.

I love Blackburn Rovers, and am deeply saddened by the state we're in. With our current squad, we'll be struggling next season.

Though i tried as hard as i could to be optimistic last year, I must say i feel alot better about the coming campaign. We had very few injuries last summer & a few quid to spend after loosing Bentley, who we all knew was going to leave!!

This year we have alot of players returning from injuries & young inexperienced players yet i dont have that siking feeling that i had last year!!

Yes, we need a striker but keep the faith folks, we have a good manager which in my opinion is the no. 1 reason to be optimistic!!

I don't get this logic either. I'm not saying for a second that I agree with "player power" and their desire to speak to the press when they want a move, but it's just the way things are now. It doesn't make them any less of a player. Every game Roque played last season he still looked the part.

How would it make the management and other players feel to hear the "star" player wants out, and as soon as possible and will tell anybody who asks? It can't have a positive affect surely? That's the reason I mention it as it can cause problems with other players.

Not sure I would agree he looked the part in every game last season. There were occasions when he just looked like he didn't care.

I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one. but I should add, I DO want us to sign a replacement with the cash.

Is there no 'out of school' summer camps on?' This messageboard gets more fustrating every summer.

If its so frustrating.. go find somewhere else to post, this is meant to be a thread about Rovers transfers not your personal playground.

Most rovers fans are realistic, we are not a rich club, we don't have the huge support that some clubs do and given that we are still doing pretty well.

I don't think that there are many supporters out there who share your pessimism, to me our squad is better, we sold a striker who had a poor injury plauged season in which he wanted to leave.. and for silly money, we got some youth into the squad and we are building the team that the manager wants.

Frankly for me Chamkeh, Zigic, Di Santo, Gignac, Jones, Janko, hoffer or whoever it may end up to be are better than a player who would rather sit in the treatment room than get on the pitch... we can all sit around and dream about the day players cant force transfers but alas I doubt that will be in my lifetime.

In regards to your comments on loosing our best three midfielders.. well frankly I prefer Emerton or Warnock there rather than Reid or Grella especially given the cover we now have for their positions.

Well I fell into your trap and posted a response.. sigh..

I made that same point myself a few pages back when we were first linked with him. I reckon the kid might make a good premiership player as he has all the right attributes, but I just hope if we go for him, we have had him watched & scouted properly!!!

Every game Roque played last season he still looked the part.

But there were so few games. RSC did not benefit the club last year. He was a detriment. He drained resources and did very little to justify his wages. With him gone, we are no worse off than we were last year, have saved his wage bill, and established a respectable transfer budget. All in all, RSC leaving, and taking his injuries and attitude with him, has strengthened us as a club.

Also, the club is greatly strengthen by the change in management. We went from Ince (questionable leadership) to Allardyce (competent leadership).

We are essentially the same cub we were last year, with a greatly improved financial position and competent leadership. Even without a new striker I believe we will do better than 15th this year. If Sam can get a player or three in, challenging for Europe may not be farfetched. Though I would prefer they concentrate on the cups instead of Europe, personally.

Santa Cruz caused the fans and players un-rest all season with his constant 'wishes to move'. Instead of playing under injections he decided to get fit for his new club, unlike Dunn who played as long as he could!

Last season went - with Santa Cruz - 19th

Without him - 15th

Key goals? He scored 4 league goals (1 in a loss to United, 1 in a loss to Liverpool, 1 in a win at Everton & 1 in a win at Newcastle) - SO A TOTAL OF 1 LEAGUE GOAL SINCE SAM CAME IN, in a defeat to United - Without his goals (full season) we would of been 4pts worse off - still in 15th

Without Benni - we would of been 8pts worse off - relegated instead of Newcastle

Benni Since Sam took over - 9 goals, in 18 games - or 10 goals & 3 assists in 28 games (10 as sub)

Since Sam took over

Benni - 14 starts, 4 subs - Total mins - 1217 - 8 goals - Av 1.6 games per goal

RSC - 4 Starts, 3 subs - Total mins - 414 - 1 goal - Av 4.6 games per goal..........................

Did you see this earlier Shillito?

Ah I see.

Sorry, it's just I though Stoke beat Sams' Rovers 1-0 on the way to finshing a few places ahead of us with a significant points advantage. And didn't West Ham finish in the top 7 or 8?

Yes Stoke beat us under Sam, they also beat Villa & Arsenal - where does your logic fit into this one?!

No West Ham finished 9th - and for your arguement, we absolutely battered them at ewood but just could break through.

Im not denying we need improvements, im just not really understanding why people see RSC as a loss since (Based on the games since Sam came in). We got £18m for the mug!

This thread was great a few weeks a go now its like a bad habit coming on here to see if anything happened yet, and shock-nothing.

The bickering is the worst part of the panic time zone we are in. We need to sign someone soon, sounds as if di santo might be the one coming in the next couple of days.

Nicko, is Tuncay/Martins gonna be playing in the championship next year? Are we interested in them?

Tuncay is on a fortune and Boro still want a big fee...I still see him going, but that may drag on yet.

I found out Martins's wages last week and you would collapse if you knew. How Newcastle intend to pay that is beyond me. And the clowns also want £10 million for him.

Sometimes you get what you deserve in life...

just a couple of points.

the seasons is weeks away yet, lets wait and see who we can get

buy the right player, we cannot afford to just spend the money on any old player, if the right on is not there wait still there is one, and if that means waiting, well we will just have to wait. Hard I know.

The problem with waiting too long is that pre season will be over, and whoever we sign would have to slip into the team with no preparation and without knowing the other players and management!

A couple of strikers who have been mentioned round here - rightly or wrongly - seem to be moving.

Huntelaar from Real Madrid to Stuttgart - £16 million.

Kalinic from Hajduk Split to Zaragoza - fee unknown.

Thought there was a problem with Stuttgart, and Huntelaar had pulled out of going there waiting for a PL side to match Stuttgart's offer - Arsenal, Chelsea or Spuds were mentioned

He certainly hasn't gone there yet and both Marca and AS said deal was in doubt?

I saw it, I'm just choosing to ignore you.

Everything you've posted since I called you a ''Hideously bias Spin Doctor'' has done nothing but emphasise my accusation. The post above is just another example...

Really, I was starting to think it stood for ''Stupid.''

You're mistaking negativity for STATING THE BLOODY OBVIOUS. It's amazing how quickly people forget how good a player is once he's gone. I would have loved Santa Cruz to stay, as the harsh reality is we won't get someone as good as him to replace him. That would be fine, if we could get a good striker and a good creative midfielder in, but it doesn't look like we will.

That fact, together with the fact teams around us seem to have the resources/ or are already down the line with strengthening their squads, leaves us, as things stand, in a very vulnerable position.

For me, the squad is the same that finished the season, minus RSC. The new guys are un heard of, and could be complete flops, or complete gems. We all want the latter but I know where the safe odds are....

How people can sit here and say we are stronger is beyond me, as anyone with half a brain/ no blue and white tinted specs on, can see WE ARE NOT.

You're like a run away horse with the bit between your teeth mate, there's no stopping you is there? If you read the post rather than answering some fictitious post that you'd rather reply to then you'd have realised that I wasn't challenging your opinion I'm challenging your PANIC.

Whether or not we are better or worse than last season is not the point. The point is that you're getting folk down with your never ending pessimism.

Make your point, say it once, then move on.

And by the way this is a SUPPORTERS site so try posting something supportive once in a while.

That's the best thing I've heard on here today

Bit surprised Huntelaar ended up at Stuttgart, I've always rated him but I guess at that fee he was too much of a risk for some clubs, they are obviously prepared to spend big.

Would really like to see Di Santo here by the middle of next week or it'll certainly be a worrying time if were in August with two front line strikers.

What's the latest with Di Santo nicko, is Ancelotti still deciding or is it just a case of doing the paperwork now, he's had a couple of weeks to look at him.

Again, unbelievable.

Read the discussions I'm involved in from the start and save me the bother of replying properly to this.

There is not an ounce of panic in me, I'm pointing out the glaring obvious. After I do this, ironically, people like yourself start with the STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANICING cries. Then the ''stop being so pessimistic'' pleas start.

Stating that as of now we are weaker than when we finished the season isn't pessimism. It's absolute fact as far as playing staff goes.
