DeadlyDirk Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Again, unbelievable. Read the discussions I'm involved in from the start and save me the bother of replying properly to this. There is not an ounce of panic in me, I'm pointing out the glaring obvious. After I do this, ironically, people like yourself start with the STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANICING cries. Then the ''stop being so pessimistic'' pleas start. Stating that as of now we are weaker than when we finished the season isn't pessimism. It's absolute fact as far as playing staff goes. It's not fact until we see just how well the likes of Van Heerden, Givet, N'Zonzi, Hoilett, Jacobsen do, they could end up doing very well for us and defintely a better combined effort compared to the losses of Santa Cruz, Ooijer, Mokoena and Tugay, not to mention the return to fitness of Reid and Emerton who we missed for much of last season. Add to that the circa 10m we have to spend I would say were in an good position to how we were last season. Santa Cruz was a good player when he played, but he had no desire to play for us and rarely did during Sam's time, Ooijer is a loss somewhat but Jacobsen and Givet are good replacements, Mokoena is no loss and Tugay the legend sadly wouldn't have offered us a lot this season, the likes of Hoilett, Van Heerden and N'Zonzi offer us some good options. We even have Gallagher back, he'll get us the goals Roque got last year, 4 was it?
Hi Mack Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I see Eidur Gudjohnson has come out today and said he wants a move. He would be a decent option as his fee shouldn't be too big. We could also invest in the midfield and another striker whether thats on Loan (Di Santo) or Zigic etc!
nicko Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 What's the latest with Di Santo nicko, is Ancelotti still deciding or is it just a case of doing the paperwork now, he's had a couple of weeks to look at him. The lad stays on tour with Chelsea until the 27th [i think] and I would be disappointed if he does not head to Rovers soon after. Will be happier when he has arrived, but that is how it stands.

spencey7 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 It's not fact until we see just how well the likes of Van Heerden, Givet, N'Zonzi, Hoilett, Jacobsen do... ...the likes of Hoilett, Van Heerden and N'Zonzi offer us some good options. Textbook example of how people prefer to convince themselves everything will be okay. Unless we get a striker - a very good one - then we're in real trouble. As for the striker, if I may:
philipl Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 £95,000-a-week next season... Wouldn't get out of bed for it myself. Martins didn't get out of bed for it! Interesting that I was first to post with some certainty that Chamakh is going to Sunderland. I'll reiterate that Spuds are currently a long neck in front in the race for Crouch and that Bent to Sunderland is looking more likely now. The thing to be depressed about Rovers at the moment is not that we are particularly weak- we are solidly 9th to 12th material, just that we are nowhere strong enough to do any better than that or win a Cup. Again, the transfer market Rovers can sensibly play in won't start until about 15 August. Frustrating but that's the way it is so just chill out.
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I know you will get flack for bringing up Poggy again Spencey but i have to agree he would be a very decent replacement for Roque. I just hope we make an enquiry, he will be cheap fee wise with his contract running out. There's no harm in trying.
thenodrog Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Gallagher has the right attitude, at least. http://www.tribalfootball.com/gallagher-no...lackburn-258594 You should not have put an 'e' in to the last word. Gallagher has the right attitude at LAST And there's his problem.

He aint going to come!

Unless we get a striker - a very good one - then we're in real trouble. As for the striker, if I may: Got my vote too (as you already know). Time to swallow some pride from January and realise that this is football; sign him up. I thought there were supposed to be movements this week, yet we're not even linked with anyone - just briefly mumbled by a Moroccan who's trying to let Arsene know he wants to come.
chaddyrovers Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 He would be a good player for us. Also we had over 6 months to scout players to replace santa cruz. i dont think we will get Chamakh, sound like he off to sunderland. The three strikers i would be looking at are Janko, Cardozo and Pogrebnyak. All three are tall strikers, good in the air, good goalscorers. We have to sign a striker this week because we need time to get use to ouring style of play, get used to his new team mates and the manager. COMING ON BIG SAM sign once of these.

I don't understand why people think Rovers have had 6 months to find a replacement for RSC. First of all the club had no idea what league they were going to be in next season. Second until a decent bid came in for RSC the club could do nothing. Thirdly nobody could have expected the transfer fees for stikers being what they are now. Also there was a time when RSC indicated he was happy to stay at Rovers. People on here are getting in a flap over nothing. There is still a long way to go in the transfer window. Anyway we all know the player Sam wants if he could, Davies.

Shortly after Sam became our manager Roque did an interview on Five Live saying he wanted to move on to a bigger club. The moment that interview was made it was obvious that it was a matter of when not if Santa Cruz was going. With our limited resources we should have started the process then of finding a replacement striker for Santa Cruz, giving us plenty of options when the time came.
Exiled_Rover Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 It'd be prudent business practice to scout for better players all the time and we all know Rovers are the only club in the Prem actually run like a business.

RibbleValleyRover Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I apologize for not knowing but, who's this cat? Pavel Pogrebnyak.

Unless we get a striker - a very good one - then we're in real trouble. As for the striker, if I may: bit of a reality check required..........world class striker coming to the end of his already hefty contract.............what on earth are the chances that he'd fit into our wage structure, slim to none i'd guess. Bayerns, milans, juventuses of the world more likely.
spencey7 Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I'm increasingly puzzled by those of the opinion that "patience will pay off" in the search for a striker, and would genuinely love anyone to explain why they believe that will be the case. The closer we get to 15th August, or the end of the window beyond that, the more likely clubs will be happy to do two things: 1) Keep their players (like we managed to do with Roque in January) or 2) Ask for (even more) outrageously inflated transfer fees The club should have known the striker they wanted before Roque was sold, and bid for him immediately. I predicted many weeks ago that we would sign no-one over the summer, then be forced into over-paying for Kevin Davies at the last minute. The way things are looking it's by far the most likely scenario.

Whilst I think there is some validity to your points about leaving deals too late, the flurry of activity at the end of each window would seem to suggest that more business is done then. Now this could be a combination of 1) a hard milestone making everybody focus on the job in hand and 2) desperation. And whilst I think your best mate would be a great signing, why do you keep banging on about him when he's stated he wouldn't come to Blackburn publicly?

Now this could be a combination of 1) a hard milestone making everybody focus on the job in hand and 2) desperation. I can't remember the last time we did any last-minute business. Transfer windows are becoming increasingly depressing for our fans. Our club is in a very dangerous "holding pattern" at the moment, and unless that changes there's only one way to go - and it isn't up. And whilst I think your best mate would be a great signing, why do you keep banging on about him when he's stated he wouldn't come to Blackburn publicly? As far as I know he never has. Would you mind posting the link to that story if you find it?
vintageadidas Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Not sure if this guy has been mentioned, found a link before but bloody IE crashed (i hate vista, does it all the time) and can't for the love of god find it again. It just said he was being watched as a replacement for RSC...... Nicolas Frutos
Lathund Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 He's referring to the quote where Pog says he's not interested in going to Rovers as we were in the relegation zone at the time. Which some people interpret as saying that he'll never want to come here.
Doaksie Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 I can't remember the last time we did any last-minute business. Of note, probably David Bentley?
