While I am biased (as an American), I have been wondering why Sam doesn't raid portions of the U.S. National team. Brian Ching (a big target man), Landon Donovan (striker/midfielder) and Michael Brady (midfielder), have all done well internationally and should do well in the EPL. While I might be wrong, I can't imagine they cost of players in the U.S. is at the level of the EPL.

Also, there are school kids here who huge fans of Donovan and Brady. They'd watch the games, if they were in the EPL. New overseas blood for the BRFC.

Have wondered that myself for a while too. There's no doubt that while still small, there's a constantly growing population of fans turning to real football. Instead of letting them all go to ManUre or Chelski, signing a well known American from MLS or the USMNT would bring a lot more supporters from this side of the pond then I think people realize. Look to see how many Oguchi Onyewu shirts you'll see now over here, I guarantee people who have never followed the sport will now be AC Milan fans that he's on the team. (Though his mistake that led tot he goal tonight didn't do any favors)

My friend who works in Bristol, C.N. at ESPN said that ESPN's number 1 target for the next year is to vuild up coverage on and prep for the world cup to draw viewers and ratings. Now is the time to exploit the growth of soccer in America.

Keith Treacy annoyed me the last game of the season, when i took my little sister to meet the players before the game. She wanted all of the players autographs on a football and baseball cap, including the youth players. When we saw Keith Treacy we approached him to get his autograph and I eventually pulled her away from him. He was totally ignoring her holding out her things to be signed and was too busy messing about from his friends shouting and swearing about the Ireland U21 manager and how he will never get to play for Ireland. The club is known as a family club, he turned up to the coach looking half dressed wearing the Rovers suit. He shouldn't be allowed to disgrace the club like this. My sister was disappointed and upset that she didn't get to get his autographs. She is 9 years old.

Good news to hear they've both gone (Treacey and Rigters).

Both as useful as a one legged man is an arse kicking contest!

Lancashire Telegraph reports that Rovers have given up hope of signing Chamakh. Rovers believe that the player prefers a move to Sunderland (probably because they pay higher wages). Rovers are not panicking and continue to persue other targets.

Benni wants out? Gulp.

Gally and Roberts up front?

This off-season is starting to smell like last years ....

The Celta Vigo thing came up weeks ago in one paper and hasn't been seen since, so I'm assuming it's guff - Benni's had a little moan that his chances appear limited but I can't see anyone coming for him. And as for "only 27 minutes of game time" against Nacional - wasn't that a 45 minute match?

Not surprising treacy has gone for me every time i watched him he seems obsessed with having shots from oustide the box that end up in row z, you can be sure sam will have said to cut down on long shots and work in more crosses.

Sam works his stats to show goals more frequently come from crosses than thunderbolts from your own half.

Tonight's star prize.

Not bothered about Treacy going, he was woeful last season and needs to work on his pace and continue to develop. As long as we have a replacement lined up, a few potentials that I can think off as well as Hoilett

Stevey Warnock on Left midfield if Pedders is injured or out of form.

Judge , Dunny Ollson or even Diouffy

7.47 Newspaper reports suggest that after ending their pursuit of Peter Crouch, Sunderland are going to use their money to reignite interest in Tottenham's Darren Bent.

8.07 According to Spanish newspapers, Real Madrid striker Klass Jan Huntelaar has backed out of a move to Stuttgart. Arsenal are understood to be the Holland international's preferred club, while Tottenham have been credited with an interest.

Are we getting Chamakh anyway?

Sunderland fan on here, do you know if you are interested in Bent?

Manchester City could add yet more fire power to their squad and are lining up an £18m swoop for Aston Villa winger Ashley Young. (Daily Express)

Very good if City could pull it off....

Portsmouth have made a £2m offer for Hull defender Sam Ricketts. (Daily Mirror)

Pompey manager Paul Hart is lining up a bid for Reading winger Steven Hunt.

Wouldn't mind a bid for Hunt, think he'd be a good addition to our team, providing us with GENUINE strength in depth. Is he right or left sided? If he can play on the left, he's in the team.

left footer I believe!!!

My Reading pal just told me S.Hunt wasn´t even on bench when they played play offs matches and he was healthy. Reading would love to sell him. Maybe he goes to Pompey or maybe not but definitely very potential last minute panic buy for some club. Loaning Treacy out was great business. Judge and Olsson could be loaned too if you ask me. But wouldn´t sell either of them yet.

I think Hunt's price is up at £5m though wasnt it!? Wouldnt want us to waste that on him.

Olsson & Judge both have potential, id like to see them as back-up to our first team and maybe play in some cup games.

Nicko - heard of any more outgoings? What happened to maybe Brown moving on?!

I know he would like to go and play somewhere, but nobody has come in yet. Still waiting on Derby doing the Fielding deal too.

Nicko,

with us stating today that we are out of the Chamakh question and Blanc saying that Sunderland isn't big enough for him - do you still think we will have any chance?

I guess we say we are not in the running to let them know we are interested???

I am not sure Rovers have ever really been in the running for Chamakh. He doesn't fit the profile of what Sam has been after and it was only a throw-away line from him that pumped up the story.

If he wants to move to play at the top level it will be Arsenal, if he wants to move for a good few quid it will be Sunderland. I don't see what motivation he has to come to Rovers.
