alexanders Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I don't see what motivation he has to come to Rovers. He has said that it's his dream to play in the EPL. Rovers are still playing in the EPL. He will probably look at Roque's move to City as Rovers being a great stepstone. I have no clue if we are interested in him, but I don't agree with you about not fitting what sam is looking for. He is a target man, good header and fairly good with both feet. He has good technique is foreign and has played on a high level (Ligue 1 and CL). His price isnt too scary either.

Hughesy Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I know he would like to go and play somewhere, but nobody has come in yet. Still waiting on Derby doing the Fielding deal too. What's happened with that one - have we rejected their initial offer or something? I thought some Championship clubs were sniffing after Bunn too?
novella Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I think I read on teletext yesterday that someone was in for martin petrov for 5M. He would be a great addition for that price and add alot of pace. Is he on his way out of city?
Hughesy Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 30 year old for £5m, on big wages? Is that sensible business? He has been injured a fair bit too.
Nelson! Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Are we getting Chamakh anyway? Sunderland fan on here, do you know if you are interested in Bent? I don't think so, we've been there before and I dont think the club will want to risk another high-profile player stringing us along in the way crouch did. The papers will keep reporting that we're interested but i think it's a case of 2+2=5. I think we'll go for Chamakh as a partner for Jones and add another striker to the squad (a young kid or a foreign unknown with potential knowing Bruce)
Oklahoma Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 According to the portuguese press, Caicedo is close to sign for Sporting Lisbon. It will be a one year loan. It seems he wants Champions League football.

Its a gamble with his injuries last season, but we have took them gambles before. Proven at premier league level. We have a small squad so wages wouldnt hopefully be too big a problem. Adds a bit of competition down that left hand side. Plus we were prepared to pay 5M for Kevin Davies who is older. In my opinion if you get someone like Zigic and Petrov for overall around 10 million it wouldnt be bad business in this current market. More a suggestion to discuss than what i actually want to happen though.
thenodrog Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Needs improving. Badly. If I had said Keith Andrews was worth a four-year contract this time last summer I would have been shot...how times change. No our midfield needs improving well. As for KA I've a feeling that he might still be away if we can land 2 stronger midfield targets. The BRFC policy has been one in one out since the latter part of Souness's reign so I think he might still be a bargaining chip.
Kelbo Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Nicko, Are Rovers still interested in Oscar Cardozo?? not been mentioned for a while!!
nicko Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 Nicko, Are Rovers still interested in Oscar Cardozo?? not been mentioned for a while!! I think he will be on the list for as long as there is a vacancy...but he will stay on the list until the price comes down drastically.
Taggart Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I think he will be on the list for as long as there is a vacancy...but he will stay on the list until the price comes down drastically. what price is he Nicko and is there a queue for him at present ?
nicko Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 what price is he Nicko and is there a queue for him at present ? The last figure quoted was around £10 million which is a bit over the top. Nobody seems to be biting. So it will surely come down. Cardozo is like Chamakh and Negredo, three admired strikers who will probably get their moves once the whole package is right. The same goes for Crouch and Bent over here. You can see transfer chains forming all over the place. Like...Crouch to Spurs if Bent leaves...Or Crouch to Fulham if Zamora goes to Hull...Jones out if Bent [and Chamakh or AN Other] go to Sunderland.

Agreed on the first sentence but there doesn't seem to be any urgency in this area. I can't see us getting two midfielders in. We will miss Tugay's finesse this year - it was like watching a different team when Tugay (in his pomp) came on to weave his magic. Sigh!
American Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 My Reading pal just told me S.Hunt wasn´t even on bench when they played play offs matches and he was healthy. Reading would love to sell him. Maybe he goes to Pompey or maybe not but definitely very potential last minute panic buy for some club. Loaning Treacy out was great business. Judge and Olsson could be loaned too if you ask me. But wouldn´t sell either of them yet. Just remember, they lost and their manager got fired. Also, he came in as a late sub in the second leg.
Paulo Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 If we aint signed anyone by this time next week, i will know why we have 200 pound season tickets. No offence grella, but get rid. Even for a million, we will never get money back so sell him, and use his wages towards a big hitter. Goals wins games, not pony midfielders
Exiled_Rover Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I like what Allardyce is doing with the squad. Rigters and Treacy aren't up to standard - Maceo never will be and it's very unlikely Keith will be able to make the step up too. His best option is to be given guaranteed first team football week in week out at a lower level to see if he can cut it - or indeed earn the club some money through a transfer. Nicko, do you have any idea how involved Doran and Judge are going to be next year? Doran looked useful at the end of last season and Judge got glowing reports from his loan at Plymouth. Are they seen as first teamers, fringe players or not quite up to the grade? Oh and whilst I'm here - what's the deal with Reo-Coker? Surely we should be in for him if Villa are looking to offload. He'd vastly improve our midfield.

Doran seems to be ahead of Judge at the moment, but the pre-season games should be a better guide. I have to say neither look physically ready for the Premier League just yet. But if you don't sign any midfielders they are going to be awful close to playing...
nicko Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 Looks like Real are still trying to make the Negredo-plus-cash swap for Alonso stick... http://www.marca.com/2009/07/23/futbol/equ...1248338658.html
Ben-2000 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I liked the look of Doran when he came on as sub towards the end of last season, can't remember seeing Judge though, can't be any worse than Treacy surely?

They want Alonso and will try any trick then can. Haven't heard or seen Graham Hunter this week his Spainish info is normally pretty good Do you know him at all?
OJRovers Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Doran/Judge have both got potenital - Judge looks better at the minute from what i've seen, I think the first team football he got at Plymouth helped. I expect them to be involved in cup games / bench and eased in slowly.

Some of the things Sam has had to work at...... Right back was highlighted as a problem - he fixed that by signing a right back who defends and wont go off on crazy runs. Treacy showed last season he wasnt up to it - out on loan Rigters never re-found his U-21 form - out on loan/ released Mokoena - Most fans have complained about him for years - gone Ooijer - Not getting any younger and not 1st choice if all our players are fit - Gone Givet - Solid since his loan - snapped up on a full time deal Bad apple in the squad - Cut him loose & as quick as possible to raise funds to buy with (RSC) 2 loanees getting rave reviews (Hoilett & Judge) - so he has brought them back to see what impact they can have Lack of pace - brought back Hoilett & signed Van Herden Decide on last season's loan signings - Both Villanueva & Simpson not good enough - sent packing IF Rigters, Fielding & Treacy all move on, we will of removed 11 players from our wage bill this summer so far, with only 5 coming in so far. Next steps please sam: Players still to be reviewed/ maybe sold - Brown, Gally, Zurab, Judge & Andrews (Although it looks like the last 2 will get a chance) New main Striker 2nd striker - Di Santo would be good for this one A creative midfielder Tin hat time from all the doomsday people..........
nicko Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 Major development with Crouch...not involving yourselves...going to be busy on this one for a bit.

Great post and it puts everything into perspective nicely. Are you Big Sam in disguise? Keep the faith, in Sam (Hughesy) we trust) Marca is very pro-Real, but they get steers. If they say they are trying to use Negredo in the deal then they are trying to use Negredo in the deal. And Graham is good...at reading papers. I want Graham Hunter's job! Swanning around sunny Spain all the time reading papers and the occasional SSN/Revista la Liga work. Beats the Manchester rain!
