brian_gallagher85 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Anyone else feeling we got done by the Greeks over the fee for Matty now that City look to have got £3m from Sheffield Utd for Chad Evans?

nicko Posted July 23, 2009 Author Posted July 23, 2009 Nicko What was the Crouchy news? Later. Much later.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 What is it a month to the start of the season and frankly I'm dreading it. I've never looked forward to the start of a new campaign less. An appalling brand of hoofball in the second half of last season which kept us up by the skin of our teeth and since then we've sold two strikers for 18m with no realistic signs of any suitable replacements coming in. To my mind if we were making a "BIG SUMMER SIGNING" to replace RSC we'd have done it long before now. Not just just coming out constantly with all this guff about prices for replacements being too high to try to appease the supporters. In midfield we have rightly offloaded Tugay, Mokoena and Vogel but failed to bring in any real quality and will be almost completely reliant on two guys who were more or less permanently injured last season. Getting rid of dross like Treacy and Rigters is a positive but only up to a point if you don't bring better quality in. Having no-one at all as cover doesn't win you any points. I've just caught up with the last couple of pages on here to try and gauge the mood and I have to agree with shillito. At this point I think we're much much weaker than last season. I also agree with Scotty that there's still time to rectify that but imo it is looking unlikely. I think there may be just about three teams worse than us next season but that will be about our lot. Apologies if that sounds negative but it's the way I feel about the situation. No point in pretending I'm happy when I'm not. The owners are killing us.
jim mk2 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 . At this point I think we're much much weaker than last season. The difference is that we are starting the season with a competant manager, whereas last season.... Agree otherwise that until the ownership issue is resolved the club will continue to limp on. If Notts County can find wealthy new owners why can't Rovers ...............?
roversmad95 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 And you are among the elite of the football gossip world mongers,Drop the self importance you @#/?. is that really needed on here... the guy tries to help us out from time to time..... no need for that... sorry been said a few times already....
Silencio Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I would also have to say there is very little to be excited about this close season so far. We have got rid of some dead wood and that is all. None of the players brought in, except for Givet, are anything to get excited about, we still have an extremely poor midfield and our best player has left. I hope we do add a good striker and a good midfielder but I am starting to not hold my hopes too high up. If there is any possibility we could sign Chamakh then we have got to be making serious moves. Let's hope we are. I hope the board aren't drawing those purse strings again...
Manc Rover Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 in response to Revidge Blue: Give them a chance - Nobody apart from City is doing anything in the market just yet. Prices will come down for players and we signed RSC, Bellamy etc a couple of weeks on from where we are now. I'm sure Sam knows what he's doing and as for the owners killing us - would you prefer it if we were saddled with debt like Charton, Southampton, Leeds, Pompey and god knows how many other teams that have not lived withn their means? As for being worse off than last season? How did you come to that conclusion? Because we've off-loaded the dead wood and a bad apple? We're rebuilding FFS. Nobody knows what our new signings will be like until they've played a few games. We may or may not have unearthed a gem or two. Personally I'd prefer that than spending stupid money on over-priced, over-rated and over-paid dross that some other clubs are. Having no-one at all as cover doesn't win you any points.????? The season is a few weeks off yet. As for the appalling brand of hoofball. He kept us up didnt he?? Finally, go on...tell u what you would do and who you would sign.

Agree otherwise that until the ownership issue is resolved the club will continue to limp on. If Notts County can find wealthy new owners why can't Rovers ...............? There's still time. However, I'm not especially encouraged. At the moment, we're certainly no better than last season, quite possibly worse, and with no indication that decent signings are riding over the hill. Bit depressed at the moment. But at least we've managed to snatch Keith out of the clutches of dastardly Fulham.
jim mk2 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 But at least we've managed to snatch Keith out of the clutches of dastardly Fulham. Have to admit that cheered me up no end. Took my head out of the gas oven to celebrate.
MI ROVER Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Later. Much later. Nicko indicated major development which as a pure guess going Arsenal as adebayor replacement ? similar to the events which led to owen to man u Back to rovers and I can't be bothered reading all pages but is it confirmed anywhere that Di Santo is coming he looked pretty useful in the game last week I saw which made me think old Carlo might not allow the deal. I hope not
ffan Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Crouch is going to Arsenal apparently... *sorry meant to be in other premier league happenings*
RevidgeBlue Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Finally, go on...tell u what you would do and who you would sign. I suspect Sam was an admirer of Crouch and therefore he should have been the RSC replacement. Alternatively, if we weren't prepared to go for the total cost of the Crouch package, or that of an equivalent replacement, RSC should not have been sold, simple as. As I think philip l said in January, (when we correctly hung onto RSC) you can't bring a wheelbarrow full of fivers onto the pitch to try and win/save a game.
T4E Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Crouch is going to Arsenal apparently. The more I think of it, the more sense that makes.

I'm sure Sam admires Samuel Eto'o but we aint signing him either. RSC didnt want to play for us and £18M is way over his real value and keeps the club in a healthier financial state, keeps the bank happy (this has been quoted already by JW) So go on, you've not said what you would do....
RevidgeBlue Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Just imagine if we had signed Crouch then Arsene wanted him after selling Adebayore. We could have turned a huge profit on him without him ever playing a game for us.
BarrowOfCroft Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I'm sure Sam admires Samuel Eto'o but we aint signing him either. No He's To Short
Manc Rover Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Just imagine if we had signed Crouch then Arsene wanted him after selling Adebayore. We could have turned a huge profit on him without him ever playing a game for us. Now I just assume you're in a deep sleep and dreaming!

Yes I have, see above. No suitable relacement, no sale. We only sell when there is one. If RSC doesn't like it tough, he's under contract and in fact only signed an extension 12 months previously. Edit: my personal choice would have been Darren Bent over Crouch but there's no indication we're prepared to pay the going rate for him either.
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 At the moment, we're certainly no better than last season, quite possibly worse, and with no indication that decent signings are riding over the hill. Bit depressed at the moment. But at least we've managed to snatch Keith out of the clutches of dastardly Fulham. My take also on the current situation. No use whatsoever having money in the bank and nowt to spend it on.....this side needs quality and strength in depth if we are to avoid another season like last. We wait.
RevidgeBlue Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Now I just assume you're in a deep sleep and dreaming! The potential for that would have been there, or even if not now in 6 or 12 months time. Missed the boat now.
Sandiway Blue Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Sorry, but there is no need for the guy to get an ego over writing about football transfers in a red top and start slagging people off,I`ve seen him describe people as worms and slugs over this stuff. But never d*ckhead........
percy Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Just imagine if we had signed Crouch then Arsene wanted him after selling Adebayore. We could have turned a huge profit on him without him ever playing a game for us. but only if we had a replacement lined up first though? Missed the boat???? - I can't believe you're complaining that we haven't signed a player who doesn't seem to fancy moving north, rejected Sam's interest in January and wanted £90k to sign for Sunderland (like we could afford that?!?) just on the offchance that Arsenal would come in and take him off us for a profit immediately / 6-12 months time....
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Have to agree with Rev on his point about selling Cruz..the fella even stated he would be more than happy to stay. Its another Bentley situation this ...Rovers sell and take the coin with no apparent plan A never mind plan B!!
brian_gallagher85 Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 The more I think of it, the more sense that makes. When did he qualify for one of these?
