donis1410 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I am starting to worry that maybe we might have another Bentley Replacement Scenario as of last summer!!!!

American Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I don't know why I bothered to type that last post with one finger. It just isn't worth the effort. I'd suggest reading the book Moneyball, Den. It's about how a baseball team decided to start looking further into the numbers (I know, not as easy in football) instead of into the scouting reports when looking at players. It allowed one of the lower budget teams in the league to compete with the richer teams, where for the period of about 7-8 years they had one of the best records in the game. They found players that the scouts didn't like, but that the numbers told them they were winners and they could produce, even though they looked ugly doing it.
Iceman Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 i was thinking the same we could get both mccormack and ledley for 10 million so that would be a striker and a cm player plus im sure they would have a resale value as they are still young... (as long as they can make it in the prem)... also if sam was after hoffer that could be 3 players in for a total of 12.5 million all with resale value and all can put the ball in the back of the net.... any thoughts? ok nicko thinks mccormack is a plumber but his scoring record is good... Are you on something? Mcormack would be no more than a Derbs replacement. Ledley, im sorry but he is not that good. 10mill on 2 average players is almost our entire budget.
Hughesy Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Didn't unleaded say we where tracking this guy? Im not sure but if he is talking to Pompey, maybe we also have a meeting set up with him!?
Denis_B Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 It's quite clear to me that it's 'arry the bung at Spuds sticking his nose into the Crouch affair. Every window he spends more time talking to his mates in the press about other teams and other teams players than ever he does about his own. He 'admires' players in his interviews but he can't get player X because team Y are in for him and we can't compete, when all he is doing is putting pressure on the selling club because team Y aren't interested. He does anything and everything to make him look like gods gift to football managers when in fact he is a slimy little barrow boy wheeling and dealing for his own gain. Despicable little man!

nicko Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 CROUCH...turned down Sunderland again because he is waiting for Tottenham...can't see Liverpool wanting him...can't see Arsenal doing it either. SPURS...will only get the cash for Crouch if they sell Bent. So we are like a dog chasing its tail. Or rather watching a dog chasing its tail. Because unless two strikers go to Sunderland there is no chance of Jones becoming available.
Hughesy Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 So basically we need Sunderland to get on with it so the merry go round can get under way...... Either way we are best ignoring Tottenham or Sunderland and just dont get involved in any deal with either of them.
Nelson! Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 CROUCH...turned down Sunderland again because he is waiting for Tottenham...can't see Liverpool wanting him...can't see Arsenal doing it either. Because unless two strikers go to Sunderland there is no chance of Jones becoming available. Well I certainly hope we refuse to play the wide-boy's games. If we end up giving him the money to sign our number one target by taking a player off his hands he clearly doens't rate it will really stick in my craw. Crouch stick at Pompey and Harry stuck with Bent in his squad would be a pretty funny outcome. Thankfully it looks like we're going elsewhere for a striker, Bent might get a move but it's unlikely to be to us....where this leave Blackburn, I don't know. The lesson: Football is better off without spivs.
alexanders Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Thankfully it looks like we're going elsewhere for a striker Heard more about Chamakh? Bruce hoping to hold talks with Chamakh
Amo Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 So Nicko, is Kenwyne Jones our No.1 target at the moment? Is that why everything's gone quiet?
SamTheShrew Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 this transfer window is proving to be as frustrating as the weather! i was hoping to see a big name striker lead the line against Leeds. Now I just hope I get to see hoillet play a bit! on a side note Nicko, what is happening at Newcastle...is shearer in charge still? I saw there was a bust-up in the Huddersfield friendly, and I was just wondering who is taking training etc, considering the season is around the corner. is Joe Kinnear unemployed again?
Hughesy Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I thought the guy from Spurs - Chris Hughton is it? And Calderwood were running things for now. Noticed the bust up too, anyone know what caused it and if Mr Joey Barton was at the centre of it?!
Hughesy Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 More players to leave: "Youngsters Alex Marrow and Gavin Gunning are also likely to be loaned out, to Crewe and Stockport respectively, while goalkeeper Mark Bunn is another who could leave on a temporary basis. Reserve stopper Frank Fielding is still expected to complete a move to Derby County, while Sam Allardyce is set to start interviews for a first team coach after Karl Robinson’s switch to MK Dons"
nicko Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 So Nicko, is Kenwyne Jones our No.1 target at the moment? Is that why everything's gone quiet? I think Zigic is number one, but if Jones becomes available and is cheaper that could change. on a side note Nicko, what is happening at Newcastle...is shearer in charge still? I saw there was a bust-up in the Huddersfield friendly, and I was just wondering who is taking training etc, considering the season is around the corner. is Joe Kinnear unemployed again? Shearer left at the end of the season...still waiting on the call from Newcastle. Kinnear is at home and waiting on the call...from the local OAP club.
vintageadidas Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I hope we don't get rid of Bunn - that lad has a big future. Loan - yes, but not a sale. I can't wait for the transfer window to actually kick in....is this the carm before the storm?
SamTheShrew Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 so hughton and calderwood are in charge of the preparations for the assault on getting back to the premierleague? what an absolute shambles. midtable obscurity beckons...
Amo Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I think Zigic is number one, but if Jones becomes available and is cheaper that could change. Thanks. Do you know approx how much Valencia want for Zigic? We're letting Bunn leave, but keeping Jason Brown?
nicko Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 Thanks. Do you know approx how much Valencia want for Zigic? Too much.
alexanders Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Interwiev with Zigic. Seem determined to play for Valencia coming season: Very badly translated: He is very happy. Yes, I am very happy to be here again. - I wanted to go back? Yes, it was what I wanted after finishing with Racing, because I want to win here, so I came back and I'm eager. - Despite the experience of last season, when the coach did not you? Sure, we wanted to return, to show that I can play in Valencia. I am one of this template, but the decision rests with the coach, like the system, its ideas and nothing more. - And now you think you have in mind? -I think so. Morientes was the last season here and so now I see better. - Are you optimistic? Yes, yes, sure. Morientes was ahead of me, the coach had a lot more confidence with him, but now everything is different. What we will not show on the left did in Valencia Racing de Santander. He scored many goals ... It's normal when you have time to play, you're getting more confidence and my work out. My obsession is to get goals, they live, although there are moments that do not put me, I do everything that my colleagues and the team win games. - What Unai Emery has told you? Nothing, we have not yet spoken, but we will let things go on because there is time to talk. - Now dismisses the possibility of leaving to another team? At the moment, I'm just thinking of Valencia. He dismissed all the bids that have reached me and if I see that the end can not be here, and seek an outlet to play next year because there are World and I want to be physically well, and play. - Have you ruled out all the offers he has had? That is. Until August 31 is still a long time and you will see what can happen. But I think what I want is to play and win here. The open-minded and positive sample can help a lot, do not you think? Sure, sure, I help a lot. I am not a sad guy. On the contrary, I like to convey joy, forget the bad things that have past and I always look forward. The past is past and I will not ever look back. - Is it important to think so? Surely, yes. It helps me a lot both personally and in my career. It is obvious that he is continuing in Valencia. Yes, that's clear, I got very clear. - What adventure for this season? -Our priority is the Champions and we will give everything to achieve it. Furthermore, we want to win the new UEFA Cup, which is a very good tournament, not to mention the Spanish Cup and the League. We want to win as much as possible. - Do you think that Real Madrid and Barcelona will battle for the league title and the other by the other European markets? It is possible that the Madrid and Barca are the favorites, the strongest candidates for the title, but I think there are more teams that can be League champions. - For example? We, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla ... You never know, because they play football eleven players against eleven and we are all equal. - Do you really go to Valencia with the potential to win the league? Yes, yes I see it. Sure. - Will it help them to stay Villa, Silva and Mata? Sure, that's fundamental. I know it will not be easy, but you never know what can happen, anything goes. You, who spent several moments hard, with return flights, do you give any advice to Villa, after what has happened this summer? No, it is not necessary. He knows very well what to do, what is best for your career and what he likes and you. But if he remains in Valencia, great, because we are another team with him. -He spoke of the World, has many hopes for this appointment? Yes, that's why I go and play with the selection of Serbia. We are first in the group with six points more than France, Romania and nine more than we are comfortable three games at home against France and Romania, and we believe that we will be in the World Cup in South Africa. Zigic
mellison24 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Brown is out of contract....not keen on lettin Bunn go. He'd be my 2nd choice behind Robbo!
Amo Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Too much. NO WAI. What's happening with Di Santo? If he's kept on at Chelsea, we're in an even bigger pickle, unless Sam thinks Gallagher can fill Derbyshire's boots but that's a chance we shouldn't be willing to take.
Hughesy Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 while goalkeeper Mark Bunn is another who could leave on a temporary basis. I hope we don't get rid of Bunn - that lad has a big future. Loan - yes, but not a sale. It doesnt mention permanent basis. Bunn, Gunning, Marow & Fielding will probably give us another £10-15k a week available on the wage budget.
novella Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I think around a weeks time you will start to see alot of clubs start to panic and thrash out deals allowing new players to become available.
