Kelbo Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 That's not why. Even if it was before that deadline he wouldn't be allowed to sign after the end of August. A player can't leave one club for another outside of the transfer window, it doesn't matter what the circumstances are regarding contracts. He'd have to have his Zenit contract cancelled before the end of August to be able to move to a club outside of the transfer window. It's a pretty easy rule tbh, I'm not sure why it causes so much confusion. I think that is incorrect, when a contract expires, the player becomes a free agent and therefore a transfer is not required!! So the rules regarding a transfer window dont apply!! Trying to remember who Rovers signed in similar circumstances, but there was one!!

If not then we can only bring him in January 1st.
Eddie Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 As a free agent he would be able to sign for us, at least I'm fairly sure that he would be able to. For example, we signed Vogel outside of the transfer window. Once he has actually left his club and his papers are no longer held by Zenit then he would be free to move.

So the rules regarding a transfer window dont apply!! Trying to remember who Rovers signed in similar circumstances, but there was one!! That's not right at all, sorry. You won't find an example involving any club because it's not allowed to happen. The last time we signed someone outside of the transfer window was Vogel, but he was unattached in the January window so therefore he could move outside of the window, which is why I said Pogrebnyak would have to leave before the end of August. As a free agent he would be able to sign for us, at least I'm fairly sure that he would be able to. For example, we signed Vogel outside of the transfer window. Oh for goodness sake...from here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6971785.stm Players who are out of contract and do not have a club, can be signed outside of the transfer window if they are unattached free agents when the window closes. Now, please stop it!
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 The contract expiry thing is irrelevant anyway, if Sam can't sign him before the window shuts then i can't see him going for him in November when his contract expires. If he can't get him now he will look elsewhere. Sam obviously wants a striker to start our league campaign, not wait until January.
Kelbo Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Someone said before that he wouldnt be allowed to play until the January transfer window although he's out of contract. I didnt know that was the case to be fair. Me neither so here ar the rules!! 'Players who are out of contract and do not have a club, can be signed outside of the transfer window if they are unattached free agents when the window closes. '
sparky12 Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Wet Spammer down here seemed to think they were signing Di Santo, or at least getting some young striker from Chelsea. Take it there's nothing in that Nicko? yeh but we are signing Di Santo......... on loan anyway

blue and whites Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 things appears to start happening around clubs now. spurs signing crocuh and letting bent go to s'land. these transfers might kickstart the window again. maby jones will be avalible in the not so distant future. really like him, so hope he is an option if pogs fall through.
Kelbo Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 when did fowler sign? Dont know but the rules i got from the FA Website!!
Iceman Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I cant see the sense in Sam waiting until November, to sign him just so he can get him on a free. We need a quality striker now, not in November after 4 months into the new season.
LeChuck Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I cant see the sense in Sam waiting until November, to sign him just so he can get him on a free Nice to see you're reading the board Iceman.
roversmad95 Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 come on nicko where are you? we are all waiting.....
Eddie Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I'm sure when he has some he'll pass it on. Asking him for it isn't exactly going to speed things up.
Iceman Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Nice to see you're reading the board Iceman. Well i havent posted much recently, because im just getting irritated by all the rubbish being posted. Where is my Luca Toni signing? :-D
Ricky Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I think LeChuck was pointing out that the last page of this thread has covered the fact that even if we waited until November to get Poggy on a free he wouldnt be able to play until January.
roversmad95 Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 14.34 Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh admits he remains uncertain as to where his long-term future will lie, with Arsenal and Sunderland among his suitors. could we still have a chance?

TimmyJimmy Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 I thought he was a has-been but man I was well impressed with Gudjohnsen at Wembly this weekend. Playing from deep, covering loads of turf, great vision, control and passing and then very quickly into the box sniffing for chances. Well impressed. Please say he's still available and looking for a move to the EPL and sod the cost. He'll do nicely on that display
Exiled_Rover Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Gudjohnson's always been quality. I thought the issue was always his huge wages?
my_name_is_Earl Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Twinge??? I'll give him a twinge with a kick up the backside on his way to the pitch No wonder there's a rumour of the physio going to City - too much work for him at Rovers... there'll be more for him at City with Roque going there

Its been a long day. The baby has taken all my energy and my thinking clearly has all but gone. No excuses Iccers lol
