The board wont pay £10M for him.....They are business men, good ones at that!

After all would you buy a brand new car for 20K when you know it will be free in a few months?

Poggy as it stands is by far the best option, and of course Zenit are going to say 10M, Its all about negotiating.

There not going to say you can have him for 1M as he is free in a few months!

Had to hold this back for fear of the story being lifted and gathering a life of its own...apparently that has already happened.

I have heard the Poggy fee would be in the region of £9 million which is frankly ridiculous. His contract is out soon, so you are being asked to pay £9 million for the privilege of having him for half-a-season or one window...

Unless that figure drops it is a total waste of money.

The fee would also explain why no-one has signed him this summer.

Said it before, say it again, this is a very tough time to be chasing strikers.

Hopefully Di Santo has a quiet night for Chelsea and heads north pronto.

Badly needed.

I don't understand all this talk of having to pay the Russians stupid money for Poggy when he has such a short time left on his contract with them. Granted they may be difficult to deal with but getting a decent amount for him, say £5-7 million would surely be more appealing to them than him leaving for nothing in less than 6 months. I also don't think they'll rip us off too much when you look at the money Arshavin cost, 15million was it and I'm sure he had a lot longer left to run on his deal.

Also, I hope I'm wrong, but I have this naggin feeling that we may being used as bait to try and lure a bigger club into going for him,

I guess the thing is that I've heard a rumour it's quite difficult to find a striker at the moment, if they let Poggy go then they have to replace him with someone good, which without looking at the league table but knowing they play him as their one lone striker it must surely put a big dent into their title and champions league qualification hopes which is worth 10m easily to them.

If they keep him, qualify for the champions league, win the title then they will probably have more than 10m to spend on a replacement than if they risked say losing the title and finishing in the UEFA cup places.

To illustrate my point:

The Russian League

1 FK Rubin Kazan 15 8 4 3 27 12 4 1 3 13 6 4 3 0 14 6 15 28

2 Spartak Moscow 15 8 3 4 24 13 5 2 1 16 5 3 1 3 8 8 11 27

3 FC Moscow 15 7 6 2 17 7 5 2 0 13 3 2 4 2 4 4 10 27

4 CSKA Moscow 15 7 3 5 22 14 2 1 3 8 7 5 2 2 14 7 8 24

5 Dinamo Moscow 15 7 3 5 17 17 5 1 2 10 7 2 2 3 7 10 0 24

6 Zenit St Petersburg 15 6 5 4 22 15 5 2 0 11 3 1 3 4 11 12 7 23

i think that if we didnt get him now we never wil, he would go to someone else on a free. would i rather have someone like crouch for 12m just because he has a longer contract does that make him worth more, i ersonally think not, i think about 5/6m would be a fantastic buy!

Nicko, do you think that the deal will still go ahead and is Sam still over there? Is Pogrebnyak willing to come to Ewood now and is there any way that Zenit will reduce their price?

I don't think it will go ahead at an inflated price. There are still a lot of other strikers out there.

By the way, the match reports say Poggy played like a pig in labour yesterday...so I don't know whether that has put Sam off anyway.

Poggy now costs...£9 million.

Poggy from January costs...nothing.

So that is the ridiculous difference.

Problem is I don't think we can wait until January to bring in a new striker. Roberts isn't the best finisher, Benni won't play if he's fat, asking Di Santo to be our main goalscorer is a tall ask and Gally i can't see him being a prolific goalscorer.

£9 million is ridiculous, any chance we could get it down to 5 or 6?

nicko ,do you know if sam as watched anyone else

this weekend ?

I haven't heard anything on that...all the chatter has been about our Russian pal...Sam could have gone somewhere else but I think he will probably focus on this one until he finds out what the 'real' price is and if the Russians are bluffing.

Got to say I wouldn't fancy negotiating with that mob.

If the price doesn't drop I think you will go elsewhere...and, no, I have no idea who or where on that one.

The main appeal for Poggy would have been if the price was low. If the price isn't low it's a 'niet' in my book.

Well it must be me then.

S15 -

Point A - You might know the details of this contract but I know all clubs usually stipulate they can recall players when necessary - this is more likely with a transfer window which closes.. and we have entered these agreements before and I believe we could have recalled Gallagher from his loans.

Point B - Eh? Go on I'll give you that one but say Chelsea get Drogba's usual lay off for a couple of months with a broken fingernail and Anelka has a sulk, Lampard migh pull them through it but he's due some sort of lay off. Meanwhile Di Santo is here banging them in and Chelsea go wayhey what a great deal for the young chappie and that Blackburn bunch. Pity we let them tie us to a contract that let's them keep him when we need a striker knowing we play 60 odd games this season. But never mind!

Roman will contact the KGB. But hang on - he's still untried at this level.

MIDO? Well you're right again I suppose, life changing events do happen, he could get hungry again, (for football!) he could get fit, he might even get used to the weather and could even get game for Egypt. He might even get a personality transplant and start getting on with people around him. And then we'll see him get the goals so thats alright then. But hang on - he's still unproven in the Premiership isn't he?

Ice - Benni might get some goals but he's lost all his pace and I just can't see that coming back. Robbo might be better just keeping running through the goalkeeper, goal and stand! Than trying to shoot.

But it's still scary guys 'cos we'd start a season having 1 ageing hitman, 1 aging workaday forward, 1 fat bloke thats unproven and 1 youngster whose unproven. Last season we were in much better nick and look what happened.

I really don't see the problem here. It's the nature of the beast.

The money is (allegedly) there for a striker, and we won't get anyone better than Pogrebnyak. Why on earth would we jeapardise our future in the Premier League for the sake of saving £3m-£4m??

Pay it.

I think Nicko means that if we sign him now we will have him until January and then he will be off to to one of the big boys. And for this we have to pay £9m now. And it wont be any good us trying to insert a ridiculously high buy out clause in his contract, because if we do either the player or his agent will tell us where to go.

9million is terrible considering he is out of contract soon..

i still think darren bent could be worth a try-he is looking likely to leave tottenham..if we spent all our budget on him, and got di santo in on loan i think this would be a major improvement on last season..

Er, no. He means that we're paying £9m for four months work.

Perhaps Zenit are forgetting the fact they could lose one of their star players for ZIP. They shouldn't be so quick to try and screw us over.

Hope you have more luck than us trying to persuade Spurs to be realistic :)

Nicko, if sunderland happen to sign the 2 strikers they are still after this week, would Jones become a live target for Blackburn again?

Eh? That doesn't make sense Fife. Why would we sell him after 6 months? Or are you suggesting he'd be free in Janurary, which also makes no sense as we'd have him sign at least a 3 year contract.

Even if we do sell him, we'd only sell him with profit. Where's the issue?

The main issue is that we are paying 9m now instead of nothing in 6 months. But in 6 months, bigger clubs with bigger wages will be looking at him.

Im not happy with Poggy, as desperate as we are for a striker, he is somebody i dont want. He disrespected our club by thinking we are not good enough for him.

Did you know that Tugay turned us down the year before he joined? Doesn't seem as important now, does it?
