Di Santo scores again, Chelsea 2 Club America 0

Makes you wonder if he will now want to stay and fight for his place, hope not guess we will know this week.

Starting to look as good as any other option out there. Could we not stop piddling about trying to get him in on loan and try bringing him in permanently?

Clearly you missed about 50 pages of discussion in which Nicko repeatedly stated Chelsea wouldn't let him go, at any price. They see him as the future number 9, apparently.

Edit: Rev - without the contract situation we wouldn't be able to afford Pogrebnyak, look at how much Spurs had to pay for Pavlyuchenko, and he's not considered to be as good as Pogrebnyak.

How so?

I make no comment as to whether he is actually worth 9m and 60k p.w. but we can surely technically afford that having sold two players for 18m and with Roques wages presumably similar.

I would have thought if they thought he was quite that indispensable they wouldn't be letting him out on loan in the first place.

A concrete offer of 10m might change their perspective a bit, I don't know.

If I remember rightly, Nicko said he wasn't yet good enough to start for Chelsea, but he was good enough to start for a mid-table team. Enter Rovers.

He needs time to develop from being a good player into an exceptional one. He isn't going to get it sat on the bench.

He also set up the second goal for Malouda.

Chelsea paid around 5m I believe.

He could well know be in the price bracket of the strikers we are looking at now, 5-10m.

nicko said, there is no way Chelsea would sell, they see him as there future striker, sooner than later if he keeps banging the goals in.

You don't know if you don't ask, No would be the answer on current form.

What a daft thing to say.

I suppose we should have let Derbyshire go for a pittance to Plymouth or Wrexham, rather than sending him out on loan, allowing him to get some experience then bringing him back and selling him for a decent chunk to the Greeks.

Likewise, I guess Beckham wasn't ever good enough for Man United, which is why they sent him on loan to Preston.

Wages shouldn't be a problem if they're around 60k, although JW did say we're reducing the wage bill this year so you can't directly compare to last years budget anyway.

It was well documented that the bank took a fairly large chunk of the Roque fee to pay some of the overdraft. It's been written in a few places that we have around £13 million to spend, if it wasn't for Pogrebynak having a few months on his contract the Russians would want far more than £13m for him.

We can afford that price but paying it would mean all of the budget goes on the centre forward and there's nothing left for the one or two centre midfielders we desperately need.

Your response makes no sense at all.

If we had received a substantial cash offer for Derbyshire around the time we sent him out on loan, we would have seriously considered it.

Ditto ManUre with Beckham when he went to Preston. They weren't to know at that point he would eventually become a superstar. It's a calculated risk.

What?

Your point was that "if Di Santo was so indispensible they wouldnt be letting him go out on loan".

The obvious answer is that Chelsea do not see him as indispensible right now, but fully believe he will be in the future. They aren't going to make all of their decisions based on who will play in this current season, they are quite rightly looking far more long term, allowing the lad to go out and get some first team football which should speed up his progress and have him go back to Chelsea as a better player.

Just like we did with Derbyshire, and United did with Beckham.

Haven´t seen Poggy too much in action but quite sure he is worth what Zenit ask. Contract situation changes all and they really can´t think getting £9m of him. We should make them take it or leave it offer max £5m. It would still be a bargain. After a good season he would be worth three times more. Anybody else panicing?

No link, just info from someone in ITK.

If we wait for Poggy to run down his contract there are other interested parties in Napoli and

Marseilles.

Could we then hope to sign hil against that type of competition.

i really doubt they are the only one who will want him if he runs out his contract, think there will be bigger clubs after him, given the lack of good cheap strikers these days..

Can't see us signing him on a free, there will be clubs that can blow us out of the water wage wise plus offer him Europa League or Champions league football.

Putting the contract issue out of your mind, if he had 3 or 4 years left on his contract and you could get him for £9 million is it worth it? I say it is, especially when you consider inferior players such as Jones, Zigic and others will cost around the same if not more. Though in reality if he had 3 or 4 years left on his contract you are looking at a fee for a player of his quality of £12 million- £15 million.

If Sam reckons he is the one for him he should try and negotiate the price down a bit, if they don't budge then i'd pay the fee. Quite frankly he's the best option out there for us.

If a lot of big clubs are waiting for his contract to run down then you have to wonder how we could get him to sign for us.

Surely he'll just see out his contract with Zenit and then move in January? I don't think he'll mind not playing December as the Russian season will have just finished anyway.

Does anybody know why this guy has let his contract run out? Just aksing because if he signs a 3 year deal with us what is to stop him doing the same, and leaving us in the mire with regards a sell on price?

If he's willing to do it to one club, why not another?

With that in mind (and that he only has 5 months left) I would not pay the £9m for him.

If (and it's a big if) we were to get four good seasons out of him for 9m + wages it still wouldn't be that bad a deal.

Beats the hell out of 5-10m + wages for one season or so of Davies.
