It's murder waiting on things to develop...but quite glad to see all of the Di Santo doubters now realising that the kid would be quite a signing.

Hopefully news on that one within 24 hours.

Not doubting your sources or anything but this has always been a very strange one to me. If the kid is that good, I have never been able to see the upside for Chelsea in loaning him out to another Premiership Club.

Keeping him yes, selling him yes, loaning him out abroad possibly.

We'll soon see I guess.

Don't believe that for a second - surely the attraction to Distin is that he can also play centre back as they've lost Knight and Laursen? I read the other day that Bouma is returning soon, and they also have Shorey, so I can't see them wanting a defender who is incapable of playing in the centre.

He'll get Premiership experience with us, we won't threaten Chelsea and he'll be able to play for us against Chelseas rivals but not against Chelsea. I see plenty of upsides for Chelsea loaning him to us.

Refusing to pay the price for Poggy because he is near to the end of his contract but then buying an inferior player for the same (or more) money seems a bit like cutting off the nose to spite the face to me. Totally illogical.

Try to negotiate but if necessary pay the price.

I've never seen the guy but better judges than me say he's the best we can afford so let's do it.

I think we can fairly safely predict now how the Rusian thing will pan out. Rovers will try to save face by claiming that the asking price is unreasonable given the contract situation etc etc. and that will be the last we hear of that.

Where does that leave us if Ancelotti decides Di Santo is too good to be merely allowed to leave on loan?

I have read through all of the many posts on Poggy since Nicko's news. Finally, a succinct post which speaks complete sense.

I have to agree, just get the feeling we will walk away from this deal.

Instead we will probably sign that useless, fat POS Mido.

Franco Di Santo singled out for praise from Ancelotti

Don't like the look of that article. Only comfort is that it's the sun.

I like the comment from Ancellotti were he states ''he has to be cool in front of goal'' which shows hes a young lad still learning and improving his game.

For me this sort of talent is more than welcome to developing their talents in Rovers colours- bring him on.

If (and it's a big if) we were to get four good seasons out of him for 9m + wages it still wouldn't be that bad a deal.

Beats the hell out of 5-10m + wages for one season or so of Davies.

Very true. But I wouldn't expect us to go for Davies instead. At least I bloody well hope not!!!

Because of the added risk, I would be tempted to offer £6m. If they dug there heals in we could offer upto the £9m in clauses such as goals, league position or a sell on clause of say 20-30%. The sell on clause would protect us as if he did let his contract run down we would not need to pay any sell on fee which would mean £6m would have been spent and lost on him.

I understand and agree that hopefully that money would be paid for through increased competition money etc, but there is no guarantee that he will be a success here and that we will recoup any of it through his performances.

If we get Di Santo i wonder if Sam will be tempted to offer Pog a pre-contract for November when his contract runs out, along the lines of an ealry post supplying a hefty signing on fee.

You’re in a night club and there are very few attractive women about. You get talking to a rather attractive Russian woman and she say’s if you’ll buy her a drink she’ll come home with you. You go to the bar and the barman tells you it’ll be £8 for the drink she wants, but if you can stall her for an hour all drinks are free. However, you also know that in about 45 minutes a group of male models will be arriving at the club further limiting your chances with the attractive Russian. What do you do?

a) Get her the drink now and be done with it.

b.) Wait and hour and take your chances

c) Just find a fatty

I just have this horrible feeling Rovers are going to end up taking option C.

Eh?

That's the bit I didn't like. We've had some pretty uncool customers over the years when it comes to the six yard box. I've not sat in the BBE Upper Tier since we signed Kuqi.

A twist in the Di Santo deal?

Looks like Carl really rates the kid! Nothing in the article (apart from the subtitle) actually suggests that he would be staying at Chelsea, but at the same time who do Chelsea have to back-up Drogba and Anelka? Sturridge is still young and unproven and Shevchenko and Pizzaro are not good enough for the Premier League. So if Carl sees something in Di Santo then I wouldn't write of the possibility of Chelsea keeping him on next season as 3rd/4th choice striker.

If so, we're buggered...

Just dont expect a wonder kid who hits the back of the net every time, give him time to settle in and let him grow he has undoubted talent.

His height, speed and skill, are far higher than say Gallaghers.I'd put him in the bracket of the early comments many were making about David Bentley when he first arrived and playedfor Rovers.

To be honets though LW - £8 is not much for most, but £9m for our club is a hulluva money!

If he comes he'll need to make a fairly immediate impact given he'll only be here for the season!.

Supposedly we do have the money to afford him though. Don't get me wrong I'd prefer him for 3 to 5 million, but if they won't budge....

i've been looking around at possible striker targets, and i really would have liked to se marco boriello coming to us! is that way off? seems milan don't want him and he has done well at other clubs earlier, and at a decent age as well. http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marco_Borriello

other players i might think would be worth looking at is Patrick Helmes from Bayern Leverkusen, great goalscoring record, how much would he cost nicko? and would he be avalible? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Helmes

Dimitris Salpigidis plays for Panathinaikos in greece, scores a lot of goals, and is quick as well. wouldn't cost more than £8-9 mill i guess..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimitris_Salpigidis

Umut Bulut plays for trabzonspor and is fast and physical, scores a decent amount of goals, and is 26 years old. guess i wouldn't cost that much, 1 cap for turkey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umut_Bulut

Jose Sand is a argentinian striker which plays for Lanus in the argentinian league. has a superb goalscoring record for them, which has earned him 2 caps for argentina. has 50 goals in 67 matches for lanus. is 29years old, but would be worth a try. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Sand

think sam has do think outside his box, and go for a striker which is somewhat unproven in the bigger leagues..
