Hi Mack Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 The biggest mistake we can possibly do is start next season with Dunn and Grella as our first choice pairing with N'Zonzi as backup. It'll be a lot worse than not signing a striker. That said I don't mind Andrews leaving as he's relatively easily replaced but with how the market is we should hold out for £3-3.5 million for the Irish international. If Grella and Dunn are fit it wouldnt be terrible, However our striker options at the moment are terrible. Nzonzi wouldnt be back up Keith, Reid and Emo would be!

nicko Posted July 9, 2009 Author Posted July 9, 2009 There will be an 11 o'clocker...awful lot happening elsewhere...and a couple of local matters to clear up.
Oklahoma Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Here are 3 striker transfers that could change the current transfer market: Real Madrid accepted a €20 million bid for Huntellar by Stuttgart - Will Real sell all their dutch players? What will happen to Ruud? Barcelona made a €41 to €44 million bid for David Villa from Valencia - If it's accepted, maybe it's Etoo on his way to Man City, some striker on his way out. Marcus Berg is close to sign for Hamburg. It has been mentioned that Groningen accepted a €10 million bid. I would prefer him over Jones for that kind of money...
EwoodGlory Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 From Sky 16.43 Reports in France claim Blackburn Rovers are tracking Valenciennes winger Gael Danic after cooling their interest in Paris St Germain's Jerome Rothen. Left Winger it seems, can't find out too much more about him.
Steve Moss Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Roberts is powerful, and struggles to finish when he has too much time to think about it. when he relies on instinct or puts his foot through it, he has more success. Reminds me of what I see out shooting. Newbies who just point and shoot without really trying to aim actually do fairly well. When they take their time, concentrate and try to hit the target, they struggle. The muscles get in the way of the eye and the brain.

Of Reals dutch lads, Van Nistelrooy would be the last one i'd be interested in for Rovers. Arjen Robben and that little central midfielder (Sneijder) cant think of his name would be of far more interest to Rovers first team.

alexanders Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I think we might still have the chance to get the beast from Vallecas (Alvaro Negredo). If it is true that Real Madrid is looking to offload their dutchmen I would think Van der Vaart / Schneidjer would be more likely to include in a Xabi Alonso deal than Negredo.

alexanders Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Arango Joins Monchengladbach For that kind of mony , €3m I would like to see us trying to sign him.

Yeah, I raised the fact that Sneijder or Van der Vaart would be a far more obvious make-weight in any prospective Alonso move myself. I find it quite surprising that they'd want Negredo, when they could get a top, top direct replacement instead.
Iceman Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I never said that at all - I cant understand the story out the other day saying that we were thinking of opening talks on new deals!! Reid will never be the same player and Dunn shouldnt have been brought back, Im not saying I would have Andrews out and rely on Dunn and Reid at all. I would rather not spend £11m on a striker and cross our fingers on the fitness of Dunn and Reid - I would rather spend £5m or £6m on a striker and spend the rest (plus anything gained from Andrews) on other CM's!! Also I think that we will see a better season from Grella this time round but that still leaves us woefully short. IF we sell Andrews I would be very unhappy if we didnt spend that money on replacement midfielders but to keep him because he is the best of a bad bunch doesnt seem to be very wise either! Fair enough roversfan. I didnt say YOU are happy with Reid and Dunn, was just pointing out that nobody has kicked up too much of fuss about Reid and Dunny.
Oklahoma Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Weren't we "interested" in M'Bia a few weeks ago? It seems his transfer to Marseille failled and he is now on his way to Stoke City. Should Sam try to get him?
joey_big_nose Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 We are actually quite heavy in midfield now. Without including young players we have these guys who can play in the centre: Dunn, Reid, Grella, Emerton, Warnock, N'Zonzi, Andrews. We could afford to let Andrews go without getting anyone in because in Givet and Jacobsen we have full backs who release Emerton and Warnock to play in the middle. There is one issue though - Reid, Grella, Emerton and Dunn have all had recent major injury problems. THat said we can't really afford having 7 players for two spots.... I would sell Andrews if we get 2.5m or more. Maybe if there is real quality out there at a decent place it will be worth buying. But if not we could add it to the striker fund? Of Reals dutch lads, Van Nistelrooy would be the last one i'd be interested in for Rovers. Arjen Robben and that little central midfielder (Sneijder) cant think of his name would be of far more interest to Rovers first team. No wonder you are perpetually disappointed with life...
roversmad95 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 If we sign this Jones fella from Sunderland i might kill myself. calm down its not that bad of a deal.....

ffan Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...s.html?ITO=1490 Leeds reject two bids for Delph. Could one of the bids have been from Rovers as a replacement for Andrews?

sparky12 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 calm down its not that bad of a deal..... oh yea it is!!! Paying 3 million for him would be to much imo but 8mill he's hardly set the prem alight
blue and whites Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 i would have tried to get jaroslav plasil who just signed for bordaux for 3mill euros. 27 years old midfielder who has 64caps for his country. not bad. think that is a low, low price..
thenodrog Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 The concept of the "clause" was a good one when Duff was around because it was set at a level no-one could realistically match prior to Abramovich unexpectedly breezing in out of nowhere and raising the bar. But for that unforseen event we'd have held onto the player. A similar comparison now would be giving Samba a get out clause of 35m. Since then unfortunately these sort of deals seem to have become the norm rather than the exception for us and as Den says there's little point in inserting a clause at a level other clubs can match as it takes the player's destiny out of our control. Going back to RSC I have to repeat what I've said earlier, we should have known EXACTLY what it would cost to replace RSC with a player of similar age and calibre and if we couldn't afford it, he shouldn't have been sold. I don't see how anyone can argue otherwise despite Tash's histrionics on the issue. But if the player's agent instructs him not to sign without a get out clause then we end up losing a player for nothing under the freedom of contract ruling (....... and who probably fakes injury for the final 6 months too). And thats not clever at all.

Paying 3 million for him would be to much imo but 8mill he's hardly set the prem alight 3 million for jones is to much.... wow!.... so you think matty is better or around the same level... damn you should of told sam to keep matty it would of saved so much messing around....
