LeChuck Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 POGGY...got to say this becomes less likely by the hour...the fee thing is a worry...and I did hear from one agent today that the price is 'only £5.5 million' and wondered where the £9 million came from...I share that wonder...the Pogster had a beast on Saturday too, so mayve that one is going to drift away. We couldn't get anyone else near his ability for that price, you get Zamora or Frazier Campbell for that kind of money now. To be honest, Rovers need to forget about this contract situation and just weight up his fee against other potential signings. If Sam thinks Pogrebynak is a worthy Roque replacement then £9 million is worth paying.

BobbyShafto_BRFC Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I think Rovers will go for Kenwyne Jones if Bent joins Sunderland... I'm hoping Chelsea wont back out on the Franco Di Santo deal!!! I'd be more than happy 2 have these two at Ewood.

If Sam thinks Pogrebynak is a worthy Roque replacement then £9 million is worth paying. Seconded. There's a time and a place for driving a hard bargain and it's not three weeks from hosting Sparky's Playboys with a choice of Belly McCarthy and Paul Gallagher to look to for goals. Poggy is either worth it or he's not, but if he's not we need to move on fast.
Torgeir Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 That's not the greatest compliment. Pavlyuchenko has undoubted quality but isn't a workhorse like Pogrebnyak is. And, like a lot of other players, he needs a season to adapt - he'll shine (hopefully for someone else than Spuds).

Perfect example of a foreign player who looks good until he tries to take on the Premier League...it's a different game.

And that would leave Sunderland weaker than they are at the minute with Campbell and Bent as a front 2 with nobody as back up The only way Jones will leave is if Sunderland sign 2 strikers and even then i doubt rovers would have the cash

Perfect example of a foreign player who looks good until he tries to take on the Premier League...it's a different game. I think a certain Vince Grella illustrated that to all Rovers fans last season Your chum down the road seems a bit quiet Nicko? Run out of dollars?
nicko Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 Your chum down the road seems a bit quiet Nicko? Run out of dollars? Far from it...close to his next massive coup. And every time I see Portsmouth lose a player and Hull miss a target I just keep on smiling. Two teams on their way down...happy with that arrangement.
PAFELL Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Don't worry son the school holidays will be over soon and there will be lots of lovely homework to do again In the meantime stop bothering the grown ups and get back to Tweenies

Perfect example of a foreign player who looks good until he tries to take on the Premier League...it's a different game. To be fair he did say it was a shock to come to England where the training was a lot harder than in Russia. He also said he on several occation did get blind drunk Not too serious, and a bit soft - I can agree on that. But I do believe Pogrebnyak is different that way, at least in the soft department , and everyone who's seen him play knows he's a hard-working attacker. I don't know where the 'big lump' reference comes from but that's not my experience from watching him play... With all that said, Pavlyuchenko remains a hero of mine.
nicko Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 ps Surely Big Sam isnt naive enough to ditch the Poggy idea because he had 1 bad game! If it's the only game he's seen him in it might have left quite an impression. Of the wrong kind.

Should we be worried if the Di Santo deal doesn't go through by the end of tommorow?

Should we be worried if the Di Santo deal doesn't go through by the end of tommorow? I meant two less sides in the race for Europe... If Di Santo isn't on his way up tomorrow then he won't be coming.

Poggy is a high quality player who is in our budget, if Sam wants him whether the price is £5.5 million or closer to the figure being talked about before we should pay it.
Blue n White Rover Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I meant two less sides in the race for Europe... If Di Santo isn't on his way up tomorrow then he won't be coming. Would your opinion on Coyley change if he was to get Burnley relegated? If Di Santo doesn't come then that would mean we would be losing around half of our budget, as we would have to BUY another striker. Do you know any other alternative if we don't get Di Santo?

If Burnley get relegated it will be because the great man left... I don't even want to think what would happen if Di Santo fell through. And I am not alone.
TheNews Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Nicko A Villa mate tells me they are in the hunt for Bent now and are expected to make an offer. This must have Levy laughing his pants off as surely a price war may start and they may get there £16m! Have you heard any news on Villa after Bent?
Kelbo Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 If it's the only game he's seen him in it might have left quite an impression. Of the wrong kind. One of my quotes to young footballers, 'you never get a second chance to make a first impression'

This must have Levy laughing his pants off as surely a price war may start and they may get there £16m! Have you heard any news on Villa after Bent? I can't see Villa paying anywhere near the asking price, although I am sure Spurs will be happy to keep that rumour going. From what I hear Bent doesn't really fancy the north east, but Sunderland are the biggest bidders.
Steve Moss Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Yes but Pompey have No strikers and are still trying to sell another striker! What the hells going on down there? Defoe Diarra Crouch Johnson all gone for a combined £60M +/-! They have to be favourites for the drop! Good. Two more teams like Pompey and we are safe.
Kelbo Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Nicko, If Crouch goes to Spurs, how will that leave Negredo??
nicko Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 Nicko, If Crouch goes to Spurs, how will that leave Negredo?? Liverpool would still be favourites there because of the ongoing and increasingly dull Alonso saga...but he is one who would certainly do Rovers.

Blue n White Rover Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Liverpool would still be favourites there because of the ongoing and increasingly dull Alonso saga...but he is one who would certainly do Rovers. Negredo - Depends on whether Real get Alonso, if they do then he goes to Liverpool, if he doesn't then we have a chance of getting him? Jones - Depends on whether Sunderland can get Bent plus another Striker? Pogrebnyak - If the price drops then we get him? Di Santo - Get him tommorow or never? Zigic - Find a faulty floodlight? I can't think of anyone else, but we have £10 million+ to play with but we are still waiting on other clubs to conclude their dealings before we make our record breaking signing. This transfer market gets more ridiculous by the day!
nicko Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 This transfer market gets more ridiculous by the day! True. But there's always tomorrow.
