alexanders Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Spurs surely is a showbiz club, and they will never be able to fight for that champions league place if they don't become consistent with consistent players and a stable manager. I agree with you Hughesy about Chamakh. He among others are looking to become available. Nicko, do you know who is on the Steve Bruce's toplist? Is he more fond of Bent or Chamakh? I think Spurs are having a lot of strikers as well know: Robbie Keane, Crouch, Bent, Pavluychenko, Defoe. Surely someone has to go.

thenodrog Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Warnock ?????? The problem with Warnock he does not have a starting role in his natural position. (LB) We know he has the versatility to play down the left side in any of three positions. With Givet at LB, as I don't see Nelson being given the chop, where do you fit Warnock in, in a 5 man MF fine but in a four we lose the creative MF to accommodate him. In a three man MF I don't think he has the quality. Warnock is better at LB than givet in the attacking sense but not as good at defending than Givet, Olsson is not ready for the LB role, even as cover he is suspect. So Warnock becomes a stand in (squad player) can't see that lasting beyond January. It's like having an ace in your hand at cards but if you can't play it it's useless. It would be a bitter pill to swallow for most fans but if the right offer came in, I can see Sam accepting at some point for the good of the team. My thoughts entirely. As soon as Givet came in I could see the writing on the wall re Warnock. We cannot afford a player like him to play out of position.... neither can he for that matter. I like his ability, cussedness and application, just like Lucas Neill when he tackles somebody they stay tackled for sure, but he is a square peg in a round hole AND rumour has it that he is a bit over gobby behind the scenes too.
Guest TrueBlue2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Best news all summer. No mention of Di Santo in there nicko? Do I remember you saying something about a decision on 28th July or I have a made that up? my sentiments exactly, he has scored 3 in 2 games now !
garyh123 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 JONES...depends on Sunderland finding two top strikers who fancy living in Seaham. Now now, whats wrong with Seaham
nicko Posted July 28, 2009 Author Posted July 28, 2009 Were Lpool unable to pay possibly? There was a lot of manoevering with the RB of S at the time. There is something in that... No mention of Di Santo in there nicko? Do I remember you saying something about a decision on 28th July or I have a made that up? Di Santo's name wasn't on the list I was asked about. Today is D-Day with Di Santo...not sure when today...it is fraying my nerves too. Bent is his first choice, but he wants Chamakh too. If he gets both that might give Jones the message.
tcj_jones Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 With Roque gone, Warnock is arguably our best player. I agree, it doesn't make sense to play him out of position but, equally, we cannot afford to let him go in the same season as Roque. Although we have Givet, we'd then be light on defenders and have to go out and bring another body in. Moreover, while Givet did well when he came to the club, he has less than half a season under his belt in the Premier League. He hasn't proved himself over a long period as Warnock has. Warnock is one of few players at the club who can match determination, enthusiasm and a willingness to run all day with real quality. Would be stupid to let him go, or to play him out of position.
G Somerset Rover Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Today is D-Day with Di Santo...not sure when today...it is fraying my nerves too. I'm starting to think that this one is going to fall through. Reading Carvalho's comments on the Chelsea website I reckon the writing may be on the wall. IF it does fall through we really are up the creek without a paddle.
LeChuck Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Givet finished the season at centre half didn't he? I'm sure Warnock will still be first choice full back when fit, we need competition for places so having Nelsen, Givet and Samba fighting for centre back isn't a bad thing. If we sell Warnock we'll just have to sign another left back, I don't see the point really, unless we could get Villa to give us £3/4 million plus Shorey, but then we lose the versatility that Warnock brings.
Tris Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Has the Di Santo loan gone cold also ? He scored again last night!! Whilst on a transatlantic flight?
Amo Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I agree with Theno to a degree, but not the bigoted way he said it. Some of us only want to keep updated, and not have to trawl through all the extraneous posts. I would recommend the Mods give this topic a cooling off period now and again. Let Nicko post his tidbits, then close the shop for awhile.
Jordan Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Whilst on a transatlantic flight? With a stewardess possibly?
super_arran Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 With a stewardess possibly? or a steward....you just never know

Spot on - Givet is a good centre half but was exposed for a lack of pace a couple of times at the back end of last season at full back. Selling Warnock would only mean we need a new full back - a backwards step
ztizan Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I dont think we should be a farmer club for Chelsea by giving their second best premiership experience. I would welcome Pogrebnyak. Is there hope that he will join us?

roversmad95 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Whilst on a transatlantic flight? he could have scored with a flight attendant... damn jordan beat me to it....
alexanders Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 he could have scored with a flight attendant... 10 000 mile high club next .

Is there hope that he will join us? Daft that. We are not competing with Chelsea. We may as well be getting someone form Madrid or Milan.

I disagree. What if Givet get injured? We're then back to Olsson being exposed as the average player he is. Besides, Warnock was great last season and very rare did we have a situation with all defenders available. If that was the case, Ooijer wouldn't have playe as many games as he did. Can't sell any more of our best players.
BlueWhiteDynamite Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 The only way i can see warnock and givet in the same team is playing 5 at the back, Warnock--------------------------Emerton -----Givet-------Samba----Nelsen------- a solid base, we just need our target man now!!
LeftWinger Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 The only way i can see warnock and givet in the same team is playing 5 at the back, Or Givet at centre back and Warnock at left-back. Or Givet at centre back and Warnock in midfield. Or Givet at full-back and Warnock in midfield. There are plenty of ways they can play in the same team. They also give us a bit of cover in a couple of positions each.
Wild Irish Rover Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 10 000 mile high club next . An airline passenger, not an astronaut..
