You know as well as the rest of us though the players won't see it that way. For a rotational squad we don't pay enough, How many have bonuses linked to appearances goals Etc.? I don't know that's why Im asking.

If for instance Warnock is used in rotation say 10-12 games by Christmas, he'll be gone in January, and he won't need to ask either.

There is no doubt we are looking strong in defence in general but the MF is made up of bits and pieces, we may have to swallow the pill to make a recovery. (so to say)

So as an example LeChuck give us your starting Defence and MF.

ok am not a football manager just a fan, but our midfield isnt great, by playing that formation its playing to our players strengths. Emo and warnock are attacking defenders, samba nelsen and givet are not. out midfield is so injury prone last season we were playing defenders there. Warnock in CM does not work. he's a good player but not a CM.

changing a formation isnt a step back. when the PL started teams played 442 or 424, a few years ago 451 became the norm (or 433 if you're classed as the BIG4!) Barcelona Play 4-6, 4 defenders 6 Attacking Mids. as a team you play to your strengths. and IMO that formation would play to ours.

I must say a few of those were cracking goals - Bellamy esque in that he made goals out of nothing. I still reckon that if we are getting this guy then it either means that Di Santo isn't coming, he's here to compliment Di Santo (meaning no big striker signing) or that someone else is on their bike.

Bad move to sell Warnock, it seriously weakens us selling one of the best left backs in the premier league and finding a replacement in this highly inflated market would be really difficult. Selling Warnock could also mean losing his ability to play several positions, i don't think Warnock is as great as some people make out on here in terms of playing in midfield but against weaker sides when we have injury or suspension issues he could do a job there.

The possible Kamel Ghilas transfer deal is interesting, as i said the other day it was increasingly looking likely that we would have to go for an unknown after being outpriced or being deemed an unsuitable destination by some of our previous targets. He isn't the targetman, too small and plays the role of a second striker.

Its looking likely that either:

- Di Santo aint coming

- Di Santo is coming but will play the targetman role, (6 foot 4).

Unless he is looking to offload Benni or Roberts?

I understand your point about formations evolving, but 5-3-2 isn't progressing, it's a step back to a formation that was tried for a while in the mid-nineties and deemed a failure.

Most teams set themselves up now with a focal point in attack, two wide strikers and attacking full-backs. We'd get absolutely murdered out wide playing wing backs.

It's simply not going to happen, Sam has never played it and it's just not used in the Premier League. In fact, I'm rather annoyed at myself for getting into this utterly pointless discussion.
