bigbrandjohn Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Bad move to sell Warnock, it seriously weakens us selling one of the best left backs in the premier league and finding a replacement in this highly inflated market would be really difficult. Selling Warnock could also mean losing his ability to play several positions, i don't think Warnock is as great as some people make out on here in terms of playing in midfield but against weaker sides when we have injury or suspension issues he could do a job there. The possible Kamel Ghilas transfer deal is interesting, as i said the other day it was increasingly looking like we would have to go for an unknown after being outpriced or being deemed an unsuitable destination by some of our previous targets. He isn't the targetman, too small and plays the role of a second striker. Its looking likely that either: - Di Santo aint coming - Di Santo is coming but will play the targetman role, (6 foot 4). Unless he is looking to offload Benni or Roberts? If he wants regular starting football elsewhere it could be a case of' Benni on the jet '

RoyRover Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 This is a player that I would be very much interested in and who we could get at a reasonable price. I've always thought of him as a class player, who can score goals and link up the play. I would be happy if we had him along with Pavel Progrebnyak, Benni McCarthy and Jason Roberts. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11887_5455758,00.html
Plastic Head Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 From sky: 11.26 Blackburn Rovers are in talks to sign Algerian international Kamel Ghilas from Celta Vigo. Signed per zerozero football....?
imy9 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I can confirm from Brockhall sources, that Sekou Baradji is on trial!! http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_5370996,00.html One of the hottest properties in Portugal according to the above link- good age 25 years old.
mohelger Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I must say a few of those were cracking goals - Bellamy esque in that he made goals out of nothing. Agree. Looks like a striker with pace and quick feet. Will be very interesting to see if this deal is real, the price looks like a steal as well (compared to other prices in the market).

alexanders Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_5370996,00.html One of the hottest properties in Portugal according to the above link- good age 25 years old. Has played for West Ham, was loaned out to Reading. Didn't feature at Reading either. Thinks he has rejuvenated his career and is ready for the EPL again!
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 If we do sign Ghilas and Di Santo does come on loan and Sam settles with that strikeforce for the season, whats going to happen to the rest of the money? I have no confidence that all of it will be made available in January but if it is then its going to be difficult to spend it in January, a market thats likely to be even more inflated.
RovertheHill Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Someone has told me that Di Santo is done. Is this true Nicko? Also told me your mate is looking at a south American wonder striker who speaks no English so should fit right in in burnley
alexanders Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 11.56 Sedan defender Paul Baysse claims he is close to joining Sunderland after rejecting offers from West Ham and Blackburn. We're involved in everything at the moment. He's a winger, not a striker. Unless it's a seperate player.
RibbleValleyRover Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Is it possible we could be looking to sign Ghilas and sell Benni to Celta Vigo? It was rumoured not that long ago that Vigo were interested in bringing back Benni: http://www.kickoff.com/static/news/article.php?id=9924

It was rumoured not that long ago that Vigo were interested in bringing back Benni: http://www.kickoff.com/static/news/article.php?id=9924 I wouldn't think so. Celta Vigo are really struggling with their liquidity and almost went into administration. They need the cash.
Hughesy Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I can confirm from Brockhall sources, that Sekou Baradji is on trial!! It a good source? Is it possible we could be looking to sign Ghilas and sell Benni to Celta Vigo? It says on that link that Celta are close to liquidation or something doesnt it!? No chance id say. Ghilas, Beradji & Di Santo today would be a timely boost!!
tcj_jones Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Edit: Not a fan at all of this 5-3-2 stuff either. There is a very good reason not a single Premier League team play that formation - it has too many flaws. Sam has never played it in his career so he's not going to start now. It certainly didn't work for Newcastle at the tail end of last season. Beyond then, I can't really remember the last time a club employed that particular formation from the start of a match or on a regular basis. We have three very good CBs, four of good Premier League quality. On the other hand, we have no fit or even remotely good CMs. That doesn't mean we're going to start playing 6-2-2. Nelsen has missed a considerable number of games through injury, while Samba WILL miss games through suspension. Furthermore, Givet is versatile so will also play games at LB, and then there are the cups... Between the three of them, they will a significant number of games each next season.
mickbrown Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 If you sign Sekou Baradji then you have some serious problems. He is bloody awful......
Moorey Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Paul baysse Sorry, poorly used quote. I meant the South American.
Wild Irish Rover Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 If you sign Sekou Baradji then you have some serious problems. He is bloody awful...... Thank goodness we have a process for evaluating players before we commit to signing them Otherwise we'd have a squad of 300+ players all signed on the basis of their Youtube / Photoshop / Wiki profiles. Let the process do the talking, unless you've got some real inside information you'd like to share, Mick?
magicalmortensleftpeg Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Who is this Baradji guy? all i have read is that he has failed to make it at West Ham and Reading..? and that the only two other English clubs interested were Brum and Fulham... Is there any reason to get excited about this guy at all?? Do these potential signings mean that the Di Santo deal is now sunk? He is one player who I think could make a real difference.
owenrilla Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 RE: Kamel Ghilas Haven't seen him myself but in the opinion of some people who have, he is very good. Has been playing almost as a straight center forward for Celta but is more likely to play off someone. Can also play wide or as an attacking midfielder. Good dribbler and decent passing ability and a hard worker as well, not that big but apparently decent in the air and can finish. Nice chap as well. Sounds promising if it is true.
alexanders Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Re Di Santo We are awaiting the message from D-day profet Alan Nostradamus.
Iceman Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Ghilas has played much of the games for Algeria as a winger, or central midfielder. He normally slots in just behind 2 strikers, and drifts between the wing and up front

Just out of interest, are there any examples of European-based footballers being signed by Prem clubs after a trial period and going on to be successful at that club? I can't think of too many off the top of my head.
