Very much hope it is done by the way !

pksrover Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Just out of interest, are there any examples of European-based footballers being signed by Prem clubs after a trial period and going on to be successful at that club? I can't think of too many off the top of my head. Mokoena?
Taggart Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Samba? I'm sure there were a couple of others under Hughes? i think the Admiral is another one !
pksrover Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 i think the Admiral is another one ! He came from DC United...so not European based
Taggart Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 He came from DC United...so not European based Very good point !, but nearly fits the bracket
Dunnfc Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Baysse was on trial last year if i remember correctly. The burnley lad guerro is ex real madrid youth.
Sparky Marky Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I'm worried about the number of players we're giving trials to.......seems that we're going for maybe's rather than proven ability...
braddock Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Oh deary me! you're missing my point as well. My point is that it would be completely stupid for Rovers to pay £9m now and only get 5 months use out of the player, irrespective of the fact that we would have him on a contract and be able to demand a fee for him. I am assuming that the player will have shown in the 5 months he is with us up to the January window that he is a very good player and well able to attract the attention of the big boys. One or more of them will take him away from us in January by paying a decent fee (let's say £15m) but then we have to start all over again looking for another top striker. Is it worth all the hassle? Other top strikers will also get the impression that there is something radically wrong at Rovers and will not want to come to us. That is why I think we should only sign this player if he costs no more than £5m tops. Otherwise move on now to the next target. up there amongst the worst posts i've seen on this place you're an oxygen thief. i know this was a late reply, two days in fact, but it is that awful i figured i would drag it up again any more news on poggy?
Hughesy Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I'm worried about the number of players we're giving trials to.......seems that we're going for maybe's rather than proven ability... Or maybe we are making the best of what resources we have and rather than spending £8m just because a player has played at a top level, we are looking at 'potential' aswell as experience.
LeChuck Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Isn't there a relatively new rule that would stop Pogrebynak from being able to play for Zenit, us and then someone else in such a short period of time? I'm 90% sure there is.
G Somerset Rover Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 It looks like Bent's figure is to be in the region of £12 million - much less than everybody initially thought. Pitty Sunderland have more money than us to burn on wages because you'd like to think that we could have competed at that fee given our player sales (he says, giving the board the benefit of the doubt). Bent fee likely to be £12 million
mick Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I think that Di Santo has finally got out of bed and is off to the Bridge to see what they have in store for him...BRFC you say...will need someone to take me there as I can't drive. Some understanding of what young men are like and professional footballers in particular is necessary...they only get active when they have to! Di Santo will arrive but not on our schedule....his and CFC's
Sparky Marky Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Or maybe we are making the best of what resources we have and rather than spending £8m just because a player has played at a top level, we are looking at 'potential' aswell as experience. Yes, but how on earth do they replicate a premiership game in a trial? Even if someone does impress, then it's not always certain he can play at this level...I say stop pissing about and get in a proven premier league scorer, target man....James Beattie...£5m should do it, then we should have money left for a decent midfielder like Joey Barton....it's a no brainer in my book. Assing about after these foreign nobody's....waste of time.
RovertheHill Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Who is someone and are they a reliable source or a friend of a friend ? Very much hope it is done by the way ! No idea if they are reliable as this is the first thing he's ever told me. But he does know Nicko and is mates with someone involved in the "proceedings" Of course he could be pulling my leg...
TimmyJimmy Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Can't tell anything from a YouTube clip I know but this Kamel Ghilas certainly looks like a finisher. Seems very comfortable as a left winger and very calm on the ball. Nice bit of selfishness in his play too. Most impressive bit on the clip was his control of the ball in tight spaces. If this is true that we are signing him then I'd be well pleased as the omens are good. Looking at the new guys who have come in they have a lot in common, young, hungry, pacey and skilfull, seems like a quiet revolution is going on behind the scenes. This time next year we could all be talking about the wealth of young talent at BRFC (then watch the vultures circle).

Assing about after these foreign nobody's....waste of time. Were Samba & Nelsen a waste of time too? Afterall we has them on Trials. And you also think Stoke would sell Beattie for just £5m after they have just signed him 6 months ago and the impact he made?!
John Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Blackburn target Pavel Pogrebnyak is wanted by Stuttgart. The Zenit St Petersburg striker is joined by CSKA Moscow's Vagner Love and Real Madrid's Alvaro Negredo on a three-man short list of recruits wanted in light of the Germans missing out on Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
LeftWinger Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 ...I say stop pissing about and get in a proven premier league scorer, target man....James Beattie...£5m should do it I don't think they'd take 5m. They paid 3.5m and then he scored 7 goals in 16 games - I think they'd be looking for 7/8m and for a 31 year old that's too much.
Eddie Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 How about we just copy Stuttgart's shortlist? Three excellent targets.
Hughesy Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 How's about, we probably can't afford most of their targets!?
PAFELL Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Portsmouth close to doing it if the bank has left them with any money. Foreign deals are easier because you can pay on the drip. One or two other clubs sniffing but Pompey think he is coming later in the week. Pompey have brought in about 77million with all the out going players - how much debt are they in that this money does not cover?
budha Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 LET's throwing City's Benjani to the mix again: Manchester City Benjani is understood to be another on Rovers’ list of possibles No thanks. Edit: removed Di Santo -part
Eddie Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 How's about, we probably can't afford most of their targets!? Well we can certainly afford two of them, the only doubt would be Vagner Love. He's probably on high wages, which would be a stumbling block, but I'd guess that he is affordable.
