If we're still chasing the 'biggie' and this algerian is coming in who's goin 'to balance the books'??

a big earner i would have thought..........so that'll be benni off to saudi to retire then. Pedersen would be a good'un to sell a year left on his deal and must be on 30k+........got a lot of time for his long throws but there really is nothing else to his game that would be missed.

signing a poggy'esque striker, signing the nippy algerian and a better midfielder than grella and binning off the above would represent an outstanding summer.

Any word on how Elrio did tonight? Hoilett obviously got a couple of goals but his overall contribution looks positive as well.

according to the min by min on the rovers site, elrio was involved with both goals and was a big part of the game.

Reminds me of the bloke we had in last year just prior to getting Villaneuva, was it Segundo Cassilas or something? Saw he'd been released by Everton. Bullet dodged I think.

That was Castillo. There was much gnashing of teeth on here (even a few suicides) when he went to Everton.

Interesting that for years we've cried out for a bit of pace and flair and all of a sudden we could have 3 similar players on our hands. Can only be a postive thing though, I'd like us to sign a target man and have two of the nippy ones playing off him.

Don't even mention the time we missed out on world superstar Anthony Annan.

Only stayed for a half at the stiffs, but...

Hoillett looks a player who could operate in the middle or wide - great turn on him and knows where he is when he gets away from his man. Van Heerden drifted about a bit but is good in bursts, may be a reasonable discovery. Doran not quite doing it on the right wing. Blackman has something but is sloppy and his penalty miss was a shocker. Gally drives you mad. Judge is neat but too small. Defenders were all solid but untested. Olsson wants to get forward and is improving. Marrow hasn't left yet but could make a player with a year learning his trade at a Crewe or Rochdale. Gunning is a big solid type who may mature.

Hahaha, I remember the Annan saga! Wasn't he meant to be the next Michael Essien or something?

Good info, thanks for that.

We've been desperate for some pace in the side for a while now, sounds like Sam has brought it in to the club from two different sources in Elroy and Hoilett.

Did N'zonzi feature for the ressies? Reviews on him have been very mixed so far.

Annan currently plays for Rosenborg in Norway, completely different from Essien both in physique and playing style - Annan is smaller and more of a defensive midfielder. He will probably move to a bigger club in Europe within a few years at most, good player - but maybe just too small for the PL.

All these lads, Kamil (plays wing or behind the strikers) elrio and hoilett seem like theo walters types who can play as nippy wingers or strikers or lightweight attacking midfield types (aka juninho)..

Signing that many similar players with potential would signal to me that Sam is really looking at playing a 4-3-2-1 which is odd with the guys playing 4-4-2 in pre-season.

Anyone know if Nzonzi played and if he did how did he do?

But wait, Di Santo is still going to be the 4th or 5th choice striker, right?

Because I really don't see Roberts or McCarthy agreeing to drop out the top 4, we still have the new striker to come and all that talk about Gallagher's last chance is gonna be quite useless if we don't even put him on the bench.

Apparantly part of the loan deal terms between us & Chelsea is that Di Santo will play regularly!!! They will have to fight for their places... Good news all round!!!

ah, great news. this will probably kick start some of the players who doesn't really have been treathened, and which has played regulary despite playing poor games. i am thinking of benni, gamst and diouf. really like that we have so much depth now, that we can really throw in a flair player or two if needed. i'm really looking forward to the new season now.

thanks nicko!!

Yep. Poorly at that...

You do not become a bad player overnight, I feel pedersons work ethic is excellent and does so much unseen work for the team, maybe, and I could be wrong,

with a target man, he could have been on the end of balls knocked down 'Scholes esque' he can strike a ball and is really a decent player, works hard and gets up and doewn quite a bit, they are just stopping him down the line now!!

From midfield it could be different!!

Unleaded, is there any news on Hoiletts preffered destination? You say his advisor wants him to go back to Germany but I would hope after fighting hard to get him in the country a longer contract would be offered.
