There is 0% chance of him going back to germany, the management have obviously let treacy go out on loan because Hoillet can do as good if not better job as back up and his ability to play 2/3 positions makes him an excellent squad player

There would be an awful lot of searching questions if Hoilett left...he got a work permit - and a transfer value - because Rovers said they had sppent so much time on him and saw him as a star of the future.

After watching him tonight you wouldn't want to let that kid slip through your fingers.

The problem is that his contract only has a year to run. Maybe his 'agent' is angling for a longer deal. If so, sign him on.

Got a bit of telly to catch up on, so this is the 11 o'clocker [well it must be 11 o'clock somewhere].

DI SANTO...the man at Chelsea he say 'yes'...Ancelotti has told Rovers that the lad can come...the only reason for the delay today - my Chelsea mole tells me - is because the kid had a couple of days off...he will be heading north before the weekend...although I confess I will be happy to see him arrive and sign on before popping the champagne corks...think he is worth the fuss.

ALGERIAN...sitting in the stand at Leigh tonight...checked with Bolton, who were linked, and they had never heard of him...still, he's here...if he is a left-sided striker that seems strange as you already have Hoilett and Del Boy coming through and they are both techincally new arrivals this summer...never seen a Rovers ressie side with so many flair players but too many similar...and NO midfielders.

TRIALIST...there was another kid in the stand with Khamel...looks like the other trialist who is supposed to be here...the Portuguese-based kid mentioned the other day.

I take it all back. I'm off to beddy bo's a happy chap now. Mrs Accyrover better watch out :P

He's done it over the course of 3 seasons.

Awful player. Just bloody awful.

He's a decent enough player not a world beater, who overachieved in his first season. To call him awful is ridiculous. He was one of our most effective players in the second half of the season, and if you consider his performances awful then by that criteria the whole squad is 'awful'.

Anyway, with Di Santo's arrival iam now officially optimistic about this season. A big name striker in would round off a decent window. Our team is significantly improved in terms of depth and quality. CM is still an issue but we have just enough emergency cover if/when Reid and/or Dunn break down.

Looking forward to see how Hoillet fares especially.

You do not become a bad player overnight, I feel pedersons work ethic is excellent and does so much unseen work for the team, maybe, and I could be wrong,

with a target man, he could have been on the end of balls knocked down 'Scholes esque' he can strike a ball and is really a decent player, works hard and gets up and doewn quite a bit, they are just stopping him down the line now!!

From midfield it could be different!!

He misplaces too many passes to do any proper job in the centre of the park. If you've seen Scholes play you would know that there's absolutely nothing Scholesque about MGP other than the occasional cracking goal (last scored a screamer in...2006?). He does work very hard and has good timing in the air, and with a bit of confidence he can become a proper player again, but not as a central midfielder.

BTW, if you're going to discuss his abilities as a player you should know how to spell his name ;) PEDERSEN

But wait, Di Santo is still going to be the 4th or 5th choice striker, right?

Because I really don't see Roberts or McCarthy agreeing to drop out the top 4, we still have the new striker to come and all that talk about Gallagher's last chance is gonna be quite useless if we don't even put him on the bench.

You didn't see Benni's comments about not minding if he's only a squad player this season then?

Di Santo will be a very good deal if we pull it off. Quality player for free for 10 months.

As for Hoilett, what happens with a new contract?? Would it have to go to a permit appeal again?? Hope he keeps progressing and signs on longer.

Was Sam at tonights game??

You could argue that Roberts and McCarthy were squad players last season, they didn't start that many games.

If Di Santo is the real deal he will start.

We need to sell a couple of players as we are now beginning to look heavy as a squad.

Totally agree nicko. This is the best prospect we have had for many a year. It would be criminal not to sign him up long term - particularly with the likes of Rigters and Julio Santa Cruz sitting on longer contracts when they will never come within a country mile of the first team.

Benni stating we need another striker is like saying give my paycheck ill be happy to warm the bench, with the players coming in and the chance of another big name striker still to come i would expect another striker to leave , benni , robberts , di santo , hoillet, the camel, gally and one coming in that would be 7 too many for our squad.

Dunno who sam is intending to play where next season as we have a few versatale players, but im still worried about the centre mid spot , would have liked to see a decent signing in that area, nzoni may be good for the future, but im hoping for a cool head and good passer to try and help me forget the legend that was TUGAY !!.

Hang on Hughesy, seen DiSanto enought to describe him as a quality player? Or is this that self dillusion taking over again.

Everyone is getting pretty stiff about DiSanto, but a bit of perspective gents, he could easily turn out not to be up to it when playing in a team with half as much going for it as the superstar filled team he's been playing for this summer, in uncompetetive matches.

It sounds promising, but the naivity of suggesting all is now fine is exactly that, naive. I hope Nicko is right, but the only reason any of you think he good is because Nicko has told you he is.

He did not say that. He said we need another top quality striker to improve our perspectives, which everyone agrees on. He knows it means he won't start every game, but that's not the same as being 5th choice and maybe getting a game in the first round of the Carling cup. Not to mention he needs to play if he wants to make the SA squad for the world cup.

And Roberts especially is very driven to play regularly, I don't see him staying if he's pushed down to 5th.

Ghilas was one of the main reasons why Vitoria Guimaraes were promoted in 2007 and finished 3rd in 2008 Portuguese league.

He is not a a target man. I see him more as an attacking midfielder or playing behind the target man.

Keirrison will be an alternative to Saviola in Benfica, I think.

excellent news about di santo, looking forward to seeing the kid play next week against hibs. i was thinking that we need to get a midfielder who can provide him with the ammunition to score goals for us, but then immediately thought that we already have that guy, in david dunn...PROVIDED he can keep himself fit and play far more many times than he doesn't. hoilett and di santo up front on saturday and against hibs next wednesday, potentially an awesome partnership.

This was in the online newspaper Record this morning.

Here is a translation:

Ex-Vitoria Ghilas signs for Blackburn Rovers

4 year deal

Ghilas, a player that played for V.Guimaraes having been transfered for free to Celta Vigo, is the new signing of Blackburn Rovers.

Ghilas is doing the medical tests and will sign a four year deal, in an operation made the agent Ulisses Santos.

The transfer will give 2,2 million € to Celta de Vigo, but if some objectives are met it can go up to 3 millions.

Ghilas will receive 800000€ in the first season for Rovers.

The forward left V. Guimaraes in the end of last season. Financial diferences - around 40000 € per year was the diference between what the player wanted and what the club offered - ended up in a "divorce" and the goodbye of the franco-argelino.

Ghilas spent two years in V.Guimaraes , having participated in the promotion of the team to the main league of the portuguese football (12 goals in 29 games).

In his first season in the I division he played 30 games and scored 6.

Potentially good news from nicko about Di Santo but of course he isn't here yet.

I'd be very disappointed albeit not in the least bit surprised though if having sold two strikers for 18m quid we only end up with a young lad on loan and a striker/cum midfielder from the depths of the Spanish second Division costing 2m Euros.

For some reason the Ghilas thing brings Grabbi to mind but hopefully that's grossly unfair on the lad.
