Just kicked the friggin cat - is this for real?

I hope he bit your foot off!!!

I know the guy was unknown, but I always get excited about players like that, because he could turn out to be a little gem... Got to trust Sam though... I reckon there is something happening & he wants to keep hold of the cash for it!!! ;)

Well the Ghilas news has really popped my balloon, but it's been a few minutes since I heard the news and my spirits are lifting already so maybe my subconcious brain knows/suspects something I don't, anyhow ...

Goes to show that Sam is ruthlessly efficient in what he's building with us. Deadwood chopped, impulse buys of mega expensive 'big' names resisted, not afraid to disappoint a trialist if he doesn't fit the bill, really tough but I'm glad he's on our side.

My guess is he already has the player/s identified and the spadework has been done and everyone knows the prices, wages etc., he's just waiting and waiting until the right moment to see what else/better pops up on the radar.

By the end of this window he will have a good team for us to enjoy :rover:

My thoughts as well! Dunno what it is about random unknowns but we have done well with them in the past so there is something a little exciting there and it brought a bit of excitement yesterday knowing that we may actually be signing someone but, oh well, if Sam decides he is not up to it or not good enough then that is fair enough. He did seem a decent player but if Hoilett or Elrio are as good, if not better, and for free that would be great news. We may as well save the money and splash it elsewhere on a big name who is going to bang in the goals for us.

It did seem a surprise signing and I agree with Nicko in that there is not much need for a player of his type in our team so we shouldn't be too disappointed. No-one was calling for a winger/striker to be bought so I don't think we need one and obviously Sam thinks we don't need another one. Just hope he doesn't sign for another Prem team and come back to haunt us but then again we didn't regret allowing Segundo Castillo to sign for Everton!

 Wonder where thet got that idea from. ;)

I normally enjoy a bit of fun at the local paper's expense, but in this case the story DID change from the overnight position and they acted quickly.

So fair play to them for that.

Tribal (I know, not a reliable source) says we are asking about Beye.

True what you say about Tribal Football but this story will not go away it seems. Its been running on and off since the end of the season. When you consider Sam took him to Newcastle and the player is considered to be one of the few successes in that nightmare of a club, it makes me more inclined to believe it than reject it. He's also stated that he wants to leave unlike most of his team-mates.

I don't mind if we don't bring in no more strikers if we spend the big money on a quality midfielder. They tend to last for longer and are less likely to be one season wonders, on the whole. Remember the strikers we had under Sam last season produced mid table form and provided us with goals, without the help of RSC. We've now just added to that, maybe not in an ideal fashion but it'll definitely do for next season.

Newcastle will be hoking everyone on their squad list to all and sundry, I don't believe the Beye story or most of the ones coming out of Newcastle.

With Jacobsen and Emerton we have two right backs, Andrews can also cover there if need be, Olsson as well, Kish has even played there.

Newcastle would sell there mothers for a pound at present, sam signed him once they most be hoping he'd do it again and its just exposure for Beye. I'm quietly confident that Sam's after players in other positions, our defence is more than fine at present.

We have 2 right-backs in my opinion, the other 3 don't bear thinking about! But Jacobsen had a terrible year with injuries and Emerton is coming back from a serious knee injury so you never know. As I said the story won't go away.

It was Christmas morning, 1977, which happens to be my birthday too, so as I walked downstairs into the living room, I saw a pile of presents for me and my two brothers under the tree. My pile looked slightly bigger than the other two, but I was kind of expecting this, to be blunt.

Steve Backley was there of course, and as I began to unwrap them, one by one, I expressed my delight at each of the small gifts I had received, and thanked my parents dutifully. At one point I accidently opened a box which I was sure was in my pile, and started to play with it and show it off to my brothers, but it turned out it was Matts, not mine, and had to give it straight back.

But at the back of mind, after every one I opened that wasn't an Evil Knievel stunt rider set, a little bit of me felt a pang of disappointment, and as the gifts began to thin out, concern that I wasn't going to get what I really wanted more than anything began to mount. So it was with great trepidation that I opened the last parcel, fingers and toes crossed, hoping and preying that it would be the great mans stunt bike.

It was a Pop-A-Matic Frustration.
